80s Genre/Categories Mixtape Draft - Draft Underway (2 Viewers)

That's probably the right Dokken to pick. I'd also accept:

In My Dreams (of course)

Burning Like A Flame (kind of sappy, but I like it)
I've always been partial to the relatively face rocking

Kiss of Death
The 15 year old me would have argued vociferously for

Mr. Scary
Footnote: I have seen Dokken three times live. That's more than I've seen Prince!

I only ever managed to see George Lynch on a solo tour with Wild Mick and some posers.. opening for Yngwie in some dingy club on the north side of Glen Burnie

I feel like these dudes always toed the line between real metal and hair metal as well as anybody. They were one of my faves back then but overall their music hasn't aged as well as some, probably due to choirboy vocals and silly lyrics. Technically they are tops, and George Lynch was the complete package.. hooks and skill. Should have been his name on the band. Jerky behavior and infighting doomed them to split before the 80's even ended. George got his band after that but it was too little too late.

Took me a while to even decide what song I wanted. They do have a movie theme, but I just can't get into it these days

Dokken - It's Not Love

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCn80HADpto

metal/hair
First Andy steals my thunder this morning, and now this. :kicksrock:

Okay, I tried to go a bit more obscure with the Metal/Hair pick but I just can't have Cinderella not represented in this draft.

17.12 - Gypsy Road, Cinderella (Metal/Hair)

They encapsulate the 80's in one simple line - "Who's to care if I grow my hair to the sky!?"

Cinderella is the 80's best hair band.

Love the Cinderella, but I actually think this title belongs to Ratt

Love 'em both. But my nod goes to Cinderella.

My alternate pick for this category was

Ratt - You're In Love

Seems like Dokken opened for everyone back then. I saw them open for Priest and Maiden. And they were part of the Monsters of Rock festival (Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, Scorps, Van Hagar).

17.02 - Let the Music Play - Shannon (One Hit Wonder) I might change it to dance later.

I'm not taking this. None of the recordings on Spotify are her original version, and that is the one I like.

I approve this selection.

Because I have at times listened to a lot of R&B, my sister-in-law used to say that I thought I was a black man. One day, I was driving her and had this song on a mixtape and she decided to amend her opinion. Now she thinks that I think I'm a 50 year-old black woman.

Zilla made the wildcard pick easy for me now. Don't think anybody has taken something from them yet. I am pretty sure I took this album in one of the first rounds of our 80s album draft. Probably the album I listened to the most from it's release to the end of the decade. Still think it's one of the best metal albums ever.

17.15: Queensrÿche - Revolution Calling (wildcard)

Pretty sure I've recommended this album before. Dave Edmunds. DE 7. Rockabilly goes country. I know every word. :bag:

Other Guys Girls is my favorite, but not country. Paula Meet Jeanne is a runner-up that always makes me smile, a country song to me. Louisiana Man and Deep in the Heart of Texas are irrefutably country. My choice is blue grass, a country sub-genre, right?

16.6 Country -- Warmed Over Kisses, Dave Edmunds

Also I'd love to hear what the FFA music draft nerds would compile in a rockabilly category.
The 80s were a strong decade for rockabilly. Sadly a lot of the independent releases aren't available on Spotify.
Jangle-Pop count as Rockabilly?
Not where I'm from

Somehow Crimson Glory is already off the board though ;)

The ryche was my favorite band in high school, bar none

 I have to ditch the song, lady scoob. The only versions on spotify are not her original, and her original is the best. I don't want some re-recorded/remix junk.

17.05 Double Dutch - Malcolm McLaren (Silly/Funny/Weird)

Sometimes you have to make compromises to improve the mix

I'm also moving Double Dutch Bus from silly/funny/weird to one hit wonder.

Mrs. Eephus is a 50 year old black woman. I guess that's my type nowadays.

I haven't yet considered spotify for my picks. My draft is fracked earth so the alternative list I'm making will be a better post draft contribution than my playlist. I guess I still need to fix TFP as soft rock. And for HT, I should lose Tarzan for a more respectable 1 hit wndr.

Whoa - had this in my also-ran list. Didn't think it would be on anyone else's radar. One of the more memorable videos of my youth with that jump roping.

I'm a 50 year old teen grunger. I might need help with that last one. I have a couple I think qualify, but the internet doesn't validate it. Which one of you old black women want a pm?

it's the only song from the decade that can be used as a transition from Double Dutch Bus to Graceland.

Didn't make it but I do have a poster in storage

I didn't get to see many shows back then. Lived too far from the city, didn't have a car til I was almost out of high school.. it was just tough logistically

I did manage to see the Queensryche and Cinderella in their primes, among a few others

remember when all those metal bands played in moscow. That was awesome. It was simulcated on the radio. I think I have the cassette tapes somewhere at my parents house. I just have no place to play them

Moscow Music Peace Festival

It's a shame Gorky Park isn't available. Say da da da da. They are on my non-spotify alternative mix.

Gonna be there for a few days this summer to see the Pirates.. Any Donnie Iris tourist spots to check out?
I dont know I went more for don caballero/doomwatch/necropolis type local bands when i lived there

the heavy stuff
Gotcha - my family probably could give a rat's ### about Iris anyway. Will stick to family friendly tourist stuff.
