80s Genre/Categories Mixtape Draft - Draft Underway (1 Viewer)

I was just talking about them this past weekend. I went with some friends to see a band called Yarn, and they did an INXS cover. My friends that I was with were with me back in the 80s when we saw INXS play in a bar/tavern in Charlotte. Michael Hutchence was a great frontman.
So true.

There was that Amercan Idol style reality show with INXS where they replaced him with the contest winner. Don't remember much other than the hostess (brooke something) saying "rocker" over and over and over.

I think I watched every episode of this. A Canadian won.

BTW - could you put the category/genre list on the Google Doc? I will be using that for reference rather than scrolling through this thread looking for chosen songs.

Probably not sure WTF a couple of the categories really are...

:bag:
The only one I am having issue with is: Wannabee 80s. Is this a song not in the 80s that sounds like an 80s tune? Is it a song I wish were in the 80's so I could use it? Is it a song from 1979 or 1990? Is it a 80's flop that doesn't deserve to be in the 80's? Are we being forced to choose that horrible Spice Girls song? I have no idea.

80's sounding songs that released post-'89.

I think.

So what's the next few picks.

I had the shoe size graduation year. 9-D!

But I spent the 80s mostly listening to really awful metal. I wasn't even a Prince fan until 94 or so.

yeah basically, a song that sounds 80's by an artist that is (generally much) newer. I hate to spotlight but if you want a good example that EVERYONE knows, it would be The Killers

There is a lot out there and it needn't be just pop/rock

I'm not a fan of that category

This would be spotlighting if half the people in here didn't already know I'd take a killers song for that one.

Just curious where everyone else is age-wise in the 80s. I graduated HS in 1988.
I married Mrs. Eephus in 1986
Were you in the Bay Area then?

I grew up out there- HS class of 86'.
I moved to SF in 1982. Lived on Oak and Divis until 84, then moved to the Mission.
What clubs were going to? I remember seeing a lot of my bands at the Kabuki, but also at On-Broadway(?) Fab-Mab (Mabuhay Gardens?) and someplace on Lower Haight.

Class of 1986

John F. Kennedy H.S. - Granada Hills, CA

The Brady Bunch episodes where Greg played football were filmed at my high school. That's all I got.

:hifive:

errr... Jefferson Airplane/starship whatever played at my HS when my brother was there (secret concert in the gym). Lots of 60s rocker types' kids went there too- Joan Baez son, Ronnie Montrose son, Grace Slick's daughter. Only other thing is that Huey Lewis shot one of his album covers at the local dive bar... and may have gone to my HS.
