Their Singles-45's and Under is one of my favorite compilation albums. Most (not all) of their proper albums were uneven, but they wrote some great singles.

Idk if this is a reach or not but not many songs make me think of the 80s more than this one. Lloyd Dobbler holding up his boom box is one of the most iconic scenes from the 80s.

I don't think top 40 is a pre-requisite.
