80s Genre/Categories Mixtape Draft - Draft Underway (1 Viewer)

Does the One Hit Wonder have to be a true 'hit' or can it be a song that most people know by that group, even if it didn't make it to top 40?
I think it should be a true hit. There are a lot of groups that are well known, but only had one hit. Eephus posted this list earlier in the thread of 80s one hit wonders.

Spotify-Facebook integration appears to be broken today. It's still working for login but following and browsing playlists by user isn't working.

Dumb question for those of us following along...I assume I'll have to create a spotify account and follow the people to listen? Could these be downloaded somehow. TIA

I'm surprised Rush only had one hit in the top 40 on Billboard.
I'm surprised they even had one

If you have the pay account, you can download a limited number of tracks for offline listening. But it's not in a portable format like MP3.

Can we expand the Metal/Hair category to about 22 selections? I'm rocking out here... :headbang:
been wanting to do a metal draft, but I thought there would only be a couple drafters interested. maybe there would be more interest....
If we broaden it to metal/hard rock, I'm in.
In the words of the great Larry Bird, which one of you mother####ers is coming in second?

ETA: sorry for the spotlight, but I don't think anyone is desperate enough to draft this

I have a feeling I'll be more mainstream than most - my musical tastes tend to be pretty broad and mainstreamy. That said, Welcome to the Jungle is also 1st song, 1st time driving with my new license, so it would feature prominently on the soundtrack to my life...

I'm a big GNR fan but for some reason I've never really cared for WTTJ.

That's not saying that that's not a good pick. That song caused music to change on a dime almost as much as Smells Like Teen Spirit did a few years later. It took pop and glam and kicked it in the balls and then held it down and tattooed it.

Funny how it didn't really catch on until MTV started playing it mercilessly.

There was a lot of great mainstream music in the 80s.

Even most of the good "alternative" stuff from the 80's is pretty mainstream by now. I will be very mainstream from the get-go..

I'm still not sure people quite get the "theme" idea, but that being said, that song's as identifiable with its movie as anything..
I assumed it was more like title track from movie soundtrack or theme song from show.
Same here . Like Curtis Mayfields Superfly from the 70sBut when I hear In Your Eyes I do think of Say Anything
my question is: can it be a previously released that was used as a movie theme, or is it supposed to be specifically for that movie?

I'm going to say it can be previously released but only if it was in the 80s and an 80s movie i.e. can't draft "With a Little Help From My Friends" because it was The Wonder Years theme song.

And I'm wondering if the movie KP is thinking of is from 1990.. :oldunsure: If so, that song is on my shortlist

nope, but intrigued now...

Do we know what time zone JML is in? Looking at his post history, it looks like he's pretty consistently not posting until 5 PM ish, so I'm going to say go ahead and skip him.

1 . 10 - JML --- skip
1 . 11 - JZilla ---
1 . 12 - Andy Dufrense ---
1 . 13 - El Floppo ---
1 . 14 - Karma Police ---
1 . 15 - Usual 21 ---

1.12 - Don't Change, INXS (New Wave/)

I think I could listen to this song on continuous loop all day long. I'm not sure which category to put it in, but we'll go New Wave for now.

Tainted Love is a great song too.

1.13: RepoMan- Iggy Pop (Movie/TV- from the movie "RepoMan")

Tricky category, but this is my go-to 80s soundtrack and I love the title-track.

I'm waiting to get sniped... wondering what it will be.

I was just talking about them this past weekend. I went with some friends to see a band called Yarn, and they did an INXS cover. My friends that I was with were with me back in the 80s when we saw INXS play in a bar/tavern in Charlotte. Michael Hutchence was a great frontman.
