80s Genre/Categories Mixtape Draft - Draft Underway (1 Viewer)

Anyway. Having category decisionitis going fwd, so I want to go bkwd. Andy asked w/o an answer. Is it ok to change a pick? I think it improves the draft, personally. Especially if the change is far from a snipe.
Yeah you can change, just post here and update google doc
Thanks. I wanted some X but the Wild Thing cover was a running out the door pick something fast thing. I'll do all my updating on the google doc so don't do it for me. I just may not get around to it until after lunch.

I love the original but enjoy the cover more still nothing you pick will erase the tarzan boy stench

I'm going to stretch the category just a bit- this came in at #42 (on the disco/dance charts in the US) in 1980 after being released in 79'...

And even though I told myself I wouldn't, I'm still taking a song by them and THIS iconic (I'd even say over-done) tune... it wouldn't be an 80s draft without it. (but if there's an issue with the pick, I'll throw it back)

13.X-

That's what I considered it for.

I love the cover too. I agree with Chaos. One problem. Album Blind released in 1992.

Wait. We're talking not repeating any artist from anyone's draft? I know it's not a rule, it's just honorable, but I thought we were talking not repeating an artist on our own lists :bag:

I WILL be around today to catch up. I've been too busy for this and hate my draft so far, and want to change a couple picks despite being so far behind. For the sake of not shotgunning and because... I'll do it one song at a time. Definitely on the short list of favorite 80s bands. Not their best jam, but so 80s.

9.14 Indie/Alternative -- Jesus and Mary Chain, Happy When it rains
I am doing that for ####s and giggles just to make it more challenging. My favorite Jesus and Mary Chain tune is Head On - and considered picking it but someone chose (I think) Just Like Honey early on so it won't be showing up on my list
If Just Like Honey had not been picked, I would have picked Darklands as my "album name song." Darklands is my favorite JAMC album and the title track is among the 5 to 7 singles I'd pick if asked to pick a favorite (as are both HWIR and Head On).

Bah. I thought they'd been overlooked and with a half dozen to make up wanted to grab them before the fell. I like the no band twice approach.
fwiw- I took Just Like Honey for 1st song off 1st album early on.
Yeah, I was going to pick Rebel Yell for Title track but someone took Dancing with Myself. I think Acer has sniped 3-4 bands that I was going to use.
:bowtie:
Looking at your list you sniped Billy Idol, Op Ivy (exact song), Leonard Cohen (exact song), and Edie Brickell (exact song)

I have about 6 songs I'm trying to shoehorn into 2 categories, so I'm just going to take two categories I don't care much about and how some of you snipe me and make my decision for me.

14.19 Panic - The Smiths - 1986 - (Silly/Funny)

15.01 Unchained - Van Halen - 1981 - (Metal/Hair Metal/Rock)
Had Panic queued up all day. The first snipe on my list. I just didn't want to be the 2nd Smith's guy and was debating the category you chose, which is fine with me. Haa---aaang the DeeJay...

We only have 8 of 19 15th round picks in so far, so I don't think it makes a ton of sense to start into round 16 yet. We'll let people catchup and then, go

Wednesday AM - Round 16

Wednesday PM - Round 17

Thursday AM - Round 18

Thursday PM - Round 19

Friday AM - Round 20

Friday PM - Rounds 21 & 22

If someone has an idea for a better schedule so we're not ending on Friday afternoon when we're all tuned out, I'm all ears.

Before I click the link, I have no idea which is the metal band name and which is the song name.
I expect Karma and some who were teen metalheads in the late 80s to remember this. The LP Transcendence is legendary among metal connoisseurs. Midnight (lead singer) was an insane talent.
I listed to about 4 minutes of this before Flash died on me. Parts of the song have sort of a Kashmir feel about them.

I agree it is behind the times metal for late 80s, but that works for me. I could have picked from six different cuts. It's an album worth listening to if ever in that mood.

Never thought Crimson Glory would go before you-know-who..

If you don't want to make a pick for 80's wannabes or Ahead of its time, I will settle for a one page essay about what the 80's means to you

Lastly, sorry to be the ####### who points out that Pepper was 1996 but somebody has to do it

Hoping this one qualifies...

14.12 Roy Orbison - Mystery to Me (soft rock)
Just Like Heaven --- The Cure

Graceland --- Paul Simon

With or Without You --- U2

Steppin' Out --- Joe Jackson

In the Air Tonight --- Phil Collins

Kayleigh --- Marillion

Biggest Part of Me --- Ambrosia

Big Love --- Fleetwood Mac

Romeo & Juliet --- Dire Straits

Ambrosia is still the softest but I like the Orbison song a lot
Just like Heaven (The Cure version) was moved to Wildcard

One of my favorite songs of all time.

The Bass intro leading into gorgeous synth at the 20 second mark, the heartfelt lyrics....

One of the most beautiful songs of all time

2.09 - The Cure - Just like Heaven - 3:32 - Category TBD
I get these blast emails from Diffuser.FM - recent one was this performance. Pretty damn good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3ZcmuSXVeo
That sounds a lot more like the Dinosaur Jnr version than their recorded version.

The Synth is largely absent

Notice that I'm not being the ashole that checks every pick
