______ Passed Away Today, RIP (2 Viewers)

Director Paul Morrissey who made movies with Andy Warhol in the 60s and early 70s passed away. He continued making indie films after his falling out with Warhol usually on minuscule budgets. I saw a couple of his later works in the 80s and found them more conventional than I expected.

I learned today he directed a Sherlock Holmes movie in the late 70s starring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. It has terrible reviews but color me intrigued.

David Harris RIP

Played Cochise from 'The Warriors'.
Just read this last night and was sad to hear. Actually saw the movie this weekend (for about the 100th time) when it was on. Never turn it off when it comes on.
I posted elsewhere- Lin Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton fame) has done a musical version The Warriors which is coming out soon. I imagine all of the OG Warriors and the movie will be getting a second run in the sun as a result... Sad Harris has missed that.

Teri Garr, a wonderful actress and a top-tier talk show guest

Oh, no. She was one of the loveliest of people.
I liked her in everything she was in. One of the under the radar choices is Let It Ride with Richard Dreyfus.

:kicksrock:

I loved mr. mom and still quote that movie all the time

"Yeah, 220, 221 whatever it takes" and "Wanna beer? It's 7 o'clock in the morning. Scotch?"
I see this quoted in the FFA from time to time... forgot it was from that movie!

Teri Garr was awesome. One of those ladies that was pretty as heck but still looked approachable and personable.
She was awesome and was definitely pretty as heck.

Yeah, we could go on all day about his many great contributions. One of my favorites by him is "Just Once", off his own The Dude album. Sung by the late great James Ingram, written by Mann/Weil but produced by Quincy. Unfortunately makes me think of the brutal ending of The Last American Virgin, but makes the song that much more powerful.

man i am bummed about quincy i think that maybe the only thing worse will be when willie finally moves on to a better place take that to the bank brohans

Totally missed this. Very underrated actress. Loved her

Is this the mom in Mr. Mom with Michael Keaton?
Yes

The term "musical genius" gets thrown around a lot but it truly applied to Quincy. The man was at the head of the line when God was handing out ears.
The “No Squeaks Mother****er” when producing Thriller for Michael Jackson is one my favorite music stories.
Quincy knew what Billie Jean needed and MJ kept doing his weehoo’s and eee ee’s.
The full story
“A friend of mine was in Los Angeles 79 thru 87. Michael Jackson had had a huge hit with Off The Wall, and was recording the follow up."The sessions were arranged for a very late start, and, after a night on the town, my mate popped around to the studio to see the producer. "He got into the control room to find that everyone's attention was fixed on the glass window. On the other side, Quincy Jones was kicking a pile of rags on the floor while shouting "Silent, you mother****er! I said NO SQUEAKS!" "It turned out the pile of rags was a gibbering Michael Jackson. They were recording a new song called Billie Jean, and Michael had decided to fill every gap with his trademark whoops, clicks and squeaks. Quincy, however, had decided that the track would be a pared down."After several hours of trying to get the singer to do what he wanted, and having consumed large quantities of ragedust, Jones had finally snapped and attacked the poor freak. Needless to say, after the outburst, MJ sang the song how he was told to, and the rest is history."

Now that is a great music biz story. GB Quincy Jones.

Actor Tony Todd passed away at age 69. Amazing and underrated career, the original Candyman freaked me out as kid. Small but memorable parts in lots of great stuff, ones that stick out to me are The Crow, 24, Babylon 5, TNG, Chuck, and one of my favorite episodes of all television "The Visitor" from Deep Space 9.

Edit: Totally forgot he was in Platoon, been many years since I watched that one.

The Rock

Gotta admit, when I heard yesterday that they had to put Ben down I got a little emotional. I've lost a lot of dogs and my old boy is getting close. Never gets easy.

What knockers

Reminds me of the Naked Gun scene where Priscilla Presley is coming down a ladder and Leslie Neilson says "nice beaver".
