Former WWF referee Dave Hebner has passed away at age 73.  He reffed Savage - Steamboat at WM 3 and Savage - Hogan at WM 5. 
He was also “supposed” to be the ref for the Hulk - Andre match where Earl Hebner counted Hulk out and gave the title to Andre.

Just heard music researcher/author Joel Whitburn passed away the other day. For music nerds, his books were the ####. Before the internet, if you wanted to know the history of the various Billboard music charts, you grabbed a book by Whitburn. I had several of them.

I recall reading/hearing that he owned a copy of every record to ever make the Billboard pop charts.

 
Former Purdue 5-star bigman Caleb Swanigan at age 25

RIP Big Man

I remember MSU was hot after this guy and he verbally committed but then backed out and committed to Purdue. Was a thorn in the side of MSU for the entire time he was at Purdue.

Sincere thoughts for his family and the Purdue fans, ie, @boilerdaveand @urbanhack

Yeah, goose lived life to the fullest for sure. Figured he wasn't gonna live to 100...but 55? Man..that sucks.  Very nice guy

Just saw this in today's paper...  Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson dies at age 26!!  RIP Sack Daddy.

Bah...  I see from above that I was late to the party on this.  Old news.  Oh well, that happens from time to time.

:shrug:  i mean he did join the army at 14 to escape his life and got discharged for forging his birth certificate to join that young. He at least attempted to put his life on an honorable track before heading down his biker path. Not sure he deserves to rip either 

 
Manny Charlton, guitarist from the Scottish rock band Nazareth. He was 80.

Nazareth's first five albums were virtually ignored in America, but they finally broke through with Hair Of The Dog, which included the immortal title track and Love Hurts.

Fun fact: Axl Rose was a huge fan and actually brought in Charlton to produce Appetite For Destruction. He didn't stick around for the final sessions, but did record a bunch of demos with the band, including a complete run-through of the album (example: Welcome To The Jungle).

I can't tell you how many hours I spent driving around in my buddy's Trans-Am listening to Nazareth.

 
Saw Nazareth back in the day. Don't think Charlton was still with them then. Didn't matter. They put in a Great show and McCafferty played the bagpipes which was a cool thing to see, and hear.

The whole Carlos arc is one of the best parts of one. Caan was pitch perfect as the hot headed eldest son.

The movie doesn’t do quite capture his character as well as the book (does it ever?) but man what a performance.

Loved him with BDW in Brian’s Song. Has to be the GoAT made-for-tv movie, right?

 
Was just debating this with my friend. Obviously Sonny Corleone is his most famous role, but one headline IDd him as "veteran 'Godfather' and 'Elf' actor" and I'm sorry, but there is no ####ing way Elf is his second most famous movie. I'm guessing it was a way to connect with younger folks who may not have heard of Misery or Brian's Song.

 
Caan had the amazing ability to be in movies that stood the test of time, like the Godfather, or Thief, and to be the best thing in terrible movies or TV shows.

Honestly, because my kids and wife absolutely adore Elf (and I do, too, actually), this is what I've seen him most in, and really think he's great in.  Sure, Misery and Brian's Song are probably "better" movies, but Elf is kinda turning into a Christmas classic - if it hasn't already - and like you said, younger folks probably don't even know of those other flicks. 

In any case, God bless his soul!  Great actor.
