______ Passed Away Today, RIP (3 Viewers)

David Warner(Tron, Time Bandits, and TONS of other tv/movies). Star Trek fans will always remember him in a famous episode "There..are....FOUR....lights!"

RIP Master Control Program and Evil Genius.

Uhura and Kirk would have made a good couple. Settle down on a couple of Star Fleet pensions, raise some kids, invite Uncle Spock over to babysit once in a while. The kids could play ring toss on his ears.

My college buddy, lost his battle with a rare genetic kidney cancer this week (HRCC).  They  gave him about a year and a half to live over 5 years ago, and he basically told them #### you and battled his ### off for his wife and hos 3 fantastic daughters.

While they have lost a father, they have gained  10-12 other guys as father figures for the rest of their lives.

#### cancer right up the ####### #### hole.

Love you,  brother.

Also have to mention Vin Scully who passed during the great FBG donut hole vortex of 2022

We were out in no-MLB New Orleans, so Vin Scully's national TV broadcasts for NBC's Game of the Week were a lifeline to the game for a lot of us. RIP to a class act.

- Memorable football call for Scully -- Joe Montana to Dwight Clark, "The Catch", Dallas at SF, 1981 NFC Championship

- Vin Scully calls the ninth inning of Nolan Ryan's fifth no-hitter, Dodgers at Astros, 9/26/1981

The best thing about Vin Scully was he knew when to shut up. A lost art in today’s group of broadcasters who think they get paid by the word.

May he rest in peace.

Two Pulitzer Prizes, as narrative historians go, few could spin a better yarn.
Of those, I would recommend every single book. Highly entertaining and accessible.

His wife of 68 years passed away in June.

Songwriter & producer Lamont Dozier at 81.

Didn't want to let this one get by without notice. Dozier was part of Motown's hitmaking writing/producing team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. Dozier co-wrote most of The Supremes and The Four Tops biggest hits, as well as hundreds of other songs.

A selection of Dozier's credits (song titles are links, notable cover artists in parentheses):

"Heatwave" - Martha and The Vandellas (Linda Ronstadt)
"Can I Get A Witness" - Marvin Gaye
"Where Did Our Love Go" - The Supremes (Soft Cell)
"Baby I Need Your Loving" - The Four Tops
"Come See About Me" - The Supremes
"How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" Marvin Gaye (James Taylor)
"Stop! in the Name of Love" - The Supremes (The Hollies)
"Nowhere to Run" - Martha and the Vandellas
"I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" - The Four Tops
"Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)" - Kim Weston (The Doobie Brothers)
"This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You)" - The Isley Brothers (Rod Stewart w/Ron Isley)
"You Can't Hurry Love" - The Supremes (Phil Collins)
"Reach Out I'll Be There" - The Four Tops
"You Keep Me Hangin' On" - The Supremes (Vanilla Fudge, Kim Wilde)
"Standing in the Shadows of Love" - The Four Tops
"Give Me Just a Little More Time" - Chairmen of the Board
"Band of Gold" - Freda Payne

Something I forgot to point out about this call, regarding Scully's overall legend:

Ryan's fifth career no-hitter broke Sandy Koufax's MLB record of four career no-hitters. Vin Scully had called all four of Koufax's no-nos.

AND: All of those calls spotlighted above -- Koufax's no-hitters, Ryan's record-breaking no-hitter, "The Catch" plus Hank Aaron eclipsing Babe Ruth with career homer 715 ... all of that was in the first half of Scully's broadcasting career. He started with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 and retired from the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 2016 season.

Really enjoyed 1776 and The Wright Brothers.
I tried Mornings on Horseback and The Pioneers - couldn't get past the first 60 pages. Just too slow.

Wolfgang Petersen, 81. Directed film such as Das Boot, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm, In the Line of Fire, Enemy Mine, and Outbreak.
Enemy Mine is a highly underrated, make-you-think sci-fi flick. The lessons of that film would probably resonate better today than they did in 1985.

Petersen also directed The Neverending Story, I learned while reading his bio in Variety.

This is the most blatant case of false advertising since my suit against the movie The Neverending Story.
