______ Passed Away Today, RIP (7 Viewers)

Regarding the pope death, it seems like this is a big deal all over the news and social media.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was the really controversial pope, right? The one who did his best to hide the sexual assaults over the years, the one who was committed to marriage only being man/woman, the one who said women shouldn’t be priests, the one who retired when you don’t do that as a pope, etc? That guy?

Adam Rich, 54 ☹️

Hadn't heard that name in years. As a kid, I liked the show quite a bit. Have no idea how it would holdup now as an adult as I've never watched a rerun.

I saw Beck on his tour with Santana in 1995. His band was Terry Bozzio, Tony Hyman and Pino Palladino. He was an incredible talent.
I saw that tour also - Santana said every night he would ask Beck to come out and play with him but he’d refuse. I saw it the night after Jerry died - Santana was speaking “to Jerry” much of the night.
My show was a few days before that, as you might have guessed given where we’re from.

Jeff Beck was a master of the guitar. While not my favorite, he might be the best I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of great guitar players (Gilmour, Lifeson, Eddie VH, Petrucci, etc), but Beck was next level. R.I.P.

Bummer, saw Beck a couple of times, thought he was brilliant. Maybe not the songwriter that Page/Clapton are, but as a guitarist he was every bit as good and *maybe* better. Just so good.
Good way to describe Beck. Unreal guitar player for sure.

So so sad. Met him in September when he signed a white Fender Strat to raise money for Chance for Hope Foundation at our upcoming annual gala. An epically influential guitarist, and just a cool guy who was committed to helping others.

Jeff Beck had his first hit in 1967 with "Hi Ho Silver Lining" -- a silly ditty with a nonsensical singalong chorus. Beck HATED the song. But it was foisted upon him by his producer (Mickie Most) who basically told him, "If you want to be a solo star, you'll sing what I tell you to sing!"

Anyway, one of my favorite videos of Jeff Beck is from a New Year's Eve TV show in 2002 where host Jools Holland convinced Beck to pull out the song for old time's sake (with some help from some famous friends): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhpgepbvIhY

Probably my favorite Jeff Beck piece is his live concert from Ronnie Scott's. That chick bass player is not only cute as the dickens, but she rocks, too!
Beat me to it. That’s Tal Wilkenfeld - very talented woman. But I digress.

Is that Rod Stewart on Blues Deluxe belting it out?
Yes, he was the singer for the Jeff Beck group and they collaborated many times after as well. Ronnie Wood was also in the band.

Yeah, I've been doing a deep dig into Beck since he passed. Knew Wood and Stewart were in Faces (and Wood was on vocals for Ooh La La which was a rarity for him) but finding all this new (to me) music the last few days has been glorious.

They recorded the song with Stewart on vocals, then Ronnie Lane but the band wasn't happy with either version. The producer suggested Wood, who co-wrote the song, to give it a try and that's the version that made the album.

Robbie Bachman, drummer for BTO
Beck needed a drummer
I assume most here know Jeff Beck came up with the drum track on Stevie Wonder's Superstition. Beck was messing around on the set and came up with that beat, Wonder walked in and started jamming and landed on the riff for Superstition. The initial agreement was Beck would get the song for his next album, but I guess Stevie Wonder's management heard it and told him there's no way it wasn't going to be a Stevie Wonder release. So it got released first on Wonder's album, some time later on Beck's album with Beck, Bogert, and Appice, and the rest is history. Stevie is credited with playing drums on his released version of the song.

RIP Gina Lollabrigida age 95.

Through the 1950s and 60s, Lollobrigida was one of the world’s most desired performers and starred in a large number of European and American films opposite many of Hollywood’s leading men of the day

I just watched Beat the Devil where she played Bogarts wife. I’ve never been a big fan of her acting but she was gorgeous. RIP.
Per the IMDB link, Bogart was not an admirer. He nicknamed her "Frigidaire".

Al Brown, Col. Stan Valchek on HBO’s ‘The Wire’, dies at age 83.

Man, he was terrific on that show. I'm in the minority of folks who consider season 2 the best season and a lot of that is because of Valcheck. RIP.

I love Season 2 the most as well, and actually texted Mr krista last night when I saw Valchek died. We still refer to "Valchek's window" around my house now and then.

First time I ever heard her name was as a kid watching the Flintstones, when Fred sang “oh, Lollabrickida” (can’t find YouTube link). Didn’t know who she was until years later.

Wow. I've never seen people that invested in the Flintstones before.

The joy of having 5 channels to choose from.
