I was just wondering if anyone has seen any updates about Bryant since he was released. Does anyone see him coming back into a situation where he could be the #2 WR in an offense?

I didn't think that the 2 game suspension to start the year would make teams not even take a chance on him. I figured that he would not get a good signing bonus and maybe have some protection for the team in a contract but I figured that someone would take a chance but I have heard nothing.

TIA

He's a good buy low candidate, he was quite solid at the beginning of last year

Id love for the Packers to take a shot with him.

Great ability to stretch the field...free up Driver some while Jennings develops...

When do they get KRob back though...

Although he's a pretty major headcase at this point, he can still play football (unlike Charles Rogers). I think he'll get a shot somewhere with a one or two year deal. A lot of teams could use his services. He's a below average NFL WR1, but a solid NFL WR2.

I'd like to see the Chargers sign him to an incentive driven deal (based mainly on good character as opposed to stats).

I think SD would be a bad fit. The guy throws a TO when the ball doesn't come his way and he's not an integral part of the game plan.I'd think being the 4th option behind Run LT, Pass Gates, Pass LT wouldn't sit well with him.

I drank the Bryant Kool-Aid last year in a few leagues, and as a SF local was able to see not just his sucky stats but the overall picture. This guy has worn out his welcome in short order in DAL, CLE, and SF for a reason.

I think NFL front offices all now understand that this guy is another one of those who will never fulfill the potential of his athletic ability because his immaturity will always be a problem, and therefore will never count on him to be a focal point in an offense. He'll survive as a complementary player somewhere as long as he has talent, but the SF situation was ideal and he blew it. He'll not see another opportunity like that in his career.

I think it is going to simply be what coach wishes to take him on having seen what dissent can bring- to the likes of Dallas and currently Oakland. He could be a bargain somewhere though if he recognizes that he needs to capitalize on his talents before he is exiled from the league. I haven't heard anything about a jump across the bay to Oakland, but as Moss should be out, that would be intriguing.

I pretty much agree, but I don't think you can count a guy like this out until he's truly burned all his bridges. I can't recommend trading for him or even drafting him, but his situation is worth watching. Although he's a headcase, he is not considered a lazy player (as far as I know).

No, I agree he's not lazy. I think he wants to do well. He lets his immaturity get the best of him (the Parcells towel incident, the SF tantrum, and who knows what else the public hasn't seen), and now he's in the substance program with 2 offenses. AB can still find a role because he's talented, but since he isn't uber-talented like Owens or Moss is (was?), he's not going to have the same length of leash and featured-role opportunities those guys get despite their immaturity.

There is no way this guy can beat out Jennings. You talk about Jennings developing, think Jennings is more devloped than Bryant at this point.

I guess I don't see that he has many better options at this point. If he doesn't understand that, than yeah you're right. But if he has clue one he should be thankful to be on a team at all come August.

I agree--he is a talented player, and on paper SD would be an ideal fit. When he signed with SF, I thought the CLE and DAL fans were just sour grapes while talking about what a turd he was....I dunno....as Tantrum once said, "If it walks like a duck....." :lmao:

I actually think he would be a good fit in Indy. He can catch the ball and get deep. Indy is in need of a WR3, and he should be reasonable.

I agree with most of the above. Hes a good WR 2 at best when hes not DUI. With all the problems he may end up as a WR3 and help a team weak in WRs, but in fantasy hes garbage.

the last thing that Manning needs is a headcase druggie in the slot . . . they're more likely to draft someone to develop . . .

Not sure why anyone would want to hang their #2 on this turd. He hasn't had a solid year since he's been in the league. He's a head case people, do we not remember why so many passed on him in the draft? Have we such short memories that we don't realized he's been on four teams?

Look else where, you'll be glad you did.

I'm not posting to support Bryant because I agree he's been a disappointment overall, and it's fine to be emotional if he's burned you, but let's be more factual when talking about him."He hasn't had a solid year since he's been in the league." He did have a 1,000 yard season in 2005. Lots of WRs never do."...so many passed on him in the draft" He was a 2nd round pick, nothing wrong with that. Lots of talented players are picked lower."...he's been on four teams." Three teams. DAL, CLE, SF. His next team will be his fourth.

Bryant's problem is that he came into the NFL at 21 and was very immature. I'm not sure if he's going to grow up or ever develop into much more than an average #2, but he has been fairly consistent (4 seasons over 700 yards and his lowest was 550) despite playing for 3 different teams.

What happened to all the positive talk about in SF at first? I thought him and Alex Smith were tight and Bryant was being a great team player and such...

Then the next minute he's cut and nobody is giving him the time of day anymore. Hmmm...

Bryant is good and can make some plays, but he really does not have #1 WR talent like many have said. For some reason though, I can see him in an Eagles uniform, and excelling.

This is a very good point. He was productive for the Niners early in the season. They have had a lot of problems. But when you cut him and bring in Lelie, that really gives you cause to pause. Lelie has been a headcase and he hasn't been productive. So what is it about Bryant that made you think Lelie would be an improvement? That makes you wonder.

I think NFL GMs think a lot more highly of Lelie than we do ...

I don't know where you heard that, but there were problems with Bryant in the locker room for some time during the season. There were games where Bryant would just pout or shrug his shoulders when he couldn't get to a catchable ball. On another occassion he got into a decent sized argument with Alex Smith over on the sidelines during a game. I remember hearing Steve Young on local sports radio talk about the situation if he were the QB, said he would've just sat his ### on the side-lines or completely ignored him for a game.Basically he was a whiny baby during the 06 season and then he got tagged with the DUI, that was enough to get him shipped out.

No, never burned me, I thought the Cowboys would have been better off drafting someone else.Fact #12002: 16games/773 yds/6TDs2003: 16games/550 yds/2TD2004: 15games/812 yds/4TDs2005: 16games/1009 yds/4TDs2006: 14gamse/773 yds/3TDsFact #2December 22, 2006WR Bryant Suspended Four GamesJay Glazer, Fox SportsThe NFL has hit San Francisco 49ers WR Antonio Bryant with a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy as a result of his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving last month. Bryant will miss the final two games of this season and the first two games of the 2007 season. If the 49ers make the playoffs, those games will count against the suspension as well. Bryant will be allowed to participate in training camp and be with the team in the off-season despite the ban.November 21, 2006WR Bryant Arrested For Drunk DrivingAssociated Press San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Antonio Bryant was arrested on reckless and drunken driving charges after his Lamborghini was seen speeding faster than 100 mph on a freeway. Bryant, 25, was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence and resisting arrest, police Capt. Kevin Raffaelli said. September 2, 2006, 09:28 WR Bryant Coming Of Age :yucky: Charean Williams, Star-Telegram On his third team in five years, 49er's WR Antonio Bryant finally is the unquestioned featured receiver, and the more he changes teams, the more Bryant changes. Offensive coordinator, Norv Turner, calls Bryant "a good example," while QB Alex Smith calls Bryant "dependable." "The experience and all the things I've been through," Bryant said. "I've learned; I've grown; I've matured."The 49ers signed Bryant to a four-year, $15 million contract to be Smith's go-to receiver. :nerd: January 2, 2006, 13:01 FA WR Bryant Hopes To Return To BrownsMary Kay Cabot, Plain-Dealer WR Antonio Bryant who is set to become a free agent had a terrific final game, catching nine passes and finishing the season with 1,009 receiving yards. He hopes to return to Cleveland next season. "You look at a guy like Braylon Edwards and Charlie Frye and being here with a guy like Dennis Northcutt - there's so many names I can mention. You definitely want to be back here and that's how I feel." October 22, 2004, 09:28 WR Bryant Pumped About Fresh StartMarla Ridenour, Beacon Journal - [Full Article]WR Antonio Bryant vowed he would stay in QB Jeff Garcia's hip pocket to learn and absorb from him and the other receivers. Twenty-four hours after the trade, Bryant still was pumped about his fresh start. "I already feel myself breathing a different air," he said. "It feels like a lot off my shoulders, a lot off my head." :loco: June 9, 2004, 13:07 CowboysDetails Of Parcells/WR Bryant FightAP An altercation between Bill Parcells and Antonio Bryant began when the WR complained about his role. When Parcells told Bryant to stop, he took off his pads and jersey, slammed them to the ground. Sources say Parcells picked up the jersey and threw it back at Bryant, who then threw it in Parcells' face. Bryant was then escorted out of practice after several players jumped in to intervene.Fact #3While in college. In 1999 he was suspended for the opener allegedly for the unauthorized use of a university phone access card.In January of ’01, he had a dispute with police over a traffic ticket.Bryant was suspended in April for fighting. Then, in late July of ’01, he was arrested and charged with using a stolen credit card to buy a plane ticket.(worth more than $1,000) Positives: Tall, with a big wingspan and good jumping ability. Natural receiver with soft hands and great ball skills, body control and timing. Almost always comes down with jump-balls and is very effective in the red zone. Makes tough catches look easy and makes some superhuman catches. Has supreme confidence in his ability and will not be intimidated. Beats all types of coverages and makes big plays. Can return punts. Has good playing speed, knows how to use that speed and can get deep.Negatives: Has a very high opinion of himself and may have some issues or baggage. Has a lot of growing up to do and does not seem to realize he can’t keep getting away with things because he is a football star. Has dropped some balls because he wanted to look cool and catch it in a nonchalant manner.Summary: In many ways will remind you of Cris Carter when Carter was in college, but Bryant is not as big or acrobatic as Carter. And unless Bryant really grows up and matures, he may never realize his potentialIt's clear why he was passed on in the draft.

A little random here, but... Why are WR's such prima donnas? You never hear of a right guard with these problems.
Because they are the athletes who grew up and could do no wrong as a kid, through high school, and probably also through college. No one has told them "no" for much of their lives, and often people have helped them along the way rather than come down on them from a point of authority.Right guards don't get much as much facetime, praise or glory as the guy who's been scoring 50 yard TDs since age 13.
