A Thread for Every Fantasy-Relevant Player (1 Viewer)

Just curious if this has been considered before, and if so, what the thoughts were. Why not have a dedicated thread for every fantasy-relevant player? Any and all info, observations, thoughts, updates, injuries, etc about that player would be found in that thread. It would be your one stop thread for all info regarding that player. It seems like that would make more sense than having multiple threads about the same player.

For example, if Romo twisted in his knee in practice yesterday, that info would be found in the Tony Romo thread, not a new "Tony Romo Injures Knee" thread started yesterday. It would be found in the same Tony Romo thread that you can look at every day for any updates and info. To make sure people didn't miss any newsworthy items, there could be a "breaking news" icon next to the thread alerting us to take note.

It just seems like there are so many threads about the same players, with each thread being only slightly different than the others. Sometimes they're just repeats of other threads all together. Do we really need a new thread every time Steve Slaton does something? Wouldn't it be more efficient to have one Steve Slaton thread where everything could be discussed? Why have one thread about "Ahman Green cutting into Slaton's carries", another thread about the "Steve Slaton Bandwagon", another thread about "what did you get for Slaton", another thread for "Steve Slaton going forward", etc. These threads are all about the same thing, Steve Slaton. Why does each and every aspect of his existence need it's own thread?

I'm sure there are downsides to this idea, but one major upside seems to be one stop shopping for every player you need info on, as opposed to multiple threads about the same player. Thoughts?

People still wouldn't use search. =)

That would dovetail nicely into my suggestion of a separate forum for Player Spotlights from the offseason. Instead of all the Spotlights dropping off after the preseason, keep using them for player info during the regular season.

How could 50+ people have no thoughts or opinions on this?
In all seriousness, a dedicated player thread would quickly become unwieldy due to the amount of posts. Additionally, most people wouldn't want to have to wade through tens of posts that aren't what they're looking for. Just to utilize your example, people who want to read about Ahman Green and Steve Slaton's potential competition for carries aren't necessarily the same people who want to read about Slaton's dynasty value, who likewise aren't the same people who want to read about Slaton's trade value, who likewise aren't the ones who want to specifically note Slaton's ranking compared to other rookie running backs. In short, it's a lot less user-friendly in practice than in theory. It's a lot easier to keep track of the thread detailing specifically what you're looking for than to browse 40 posts that aren't.

I like the idea but then you can't have people like........Branch will go 8/120/1 this week and then someone after the game say. BUTTER you were an idiot he went 1/65/0

If we could keep it to facts about the player it would be AWESOME IMO!

If there was a Tony Romo thread, and he injured his knee.. how would I know that if it isn't in the thread title? Should I randomly read the 25+ pages that a Tony Romo thread would have, wade through people argueing about irrelevent facts, to possibly be suprised by new info?

Not sure how good an idea it is.

Do you realize how many offensive skill players there are? Most are fantasy relevant too. Deep dynasty leagues have 3rd string running backs rostered, 4 or more wr's for each NFL team, including most rookies, backup Qb's etc. And if it's done here for offensive players, it would need to be done with the IDP's too. That is a lot of new threads.

I suggested in the OP that there could be a "Breaking News" icon next to the thread indicating that there was noteworthy info to be read. There could be numerous icons for different purposes. Plus, this is a very active website. If Tony Romo injured his knee, his "dedicated thread" would be at the top of the list due to the constant replies it would surely get. Also, you shouln't expect this website to do all your homework for you. Do you not watch football? If Romo gets hurt, it's gonna be played and played until we're sick of seeing it! That being said, again, there could be a breaking news icon.

Exactly, you're making my point. There are tons of fantasy players, and having multiple threads for each of them seems inefficient. Why do we need multiple threads discussing the same players? Do we really need one thread titled, "What's up with LJ" and another titled "LJ Going Forward"?

What about a player wiki? I think FBG does great on their team pages, but the content is one-way. You add some additional content areas, or even links to the forums on the "good" threads, and you have an "all in one" resource place to look and contribute dynamically. I'm sure someone smarter than I could figure out how to do it...

:P - using the player profile format. i agree it would be tough to include injury info needed here, but a good idea for prognostication (esp. dynasty wise). Maybe we could talk F&L into linking players into something on his blog.
