Aaron Curry Traded to Oakland (1 Viewer)

Raiders acquired OLB Aaron Curry from the Seahawks in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2012 and a conditional mid-round pick in 2013.The Raiders haven't scrapped their philosophy of trying to rehabilitate former first-round busts in the post-Al Davis era. Curry, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2009 draft, flamed out in Seattle because he lacked instincts to diagnose run plays and was a zero in pass coverage. Raiders MLB Rolando McClain suffered a potentially serious ankle injury in Week 6, and Curry could be viewed as insurance behind likely replacement starter Darryl Blackstock.

Crazy. The 2009 LB class was pretty decent. Most of the LBs drafted in the first 2 rounds are major contributors today1:4 Aaron Curry1:13 Brian Orakpo (LB/DE hybrid)1:15 Brian Cushing1:16 Larry English (DE in college converted to LB)1:18 Robert Ayers1:26 Clay Matthews2:35 James Laurinaitis2:38 Rey Maualuga2:45 Clint Simtim
Bills fans appreciate you not including Aaron Maybin there as a reminder that they also missed out on Orakpo, Cushing, Matthews, Laurinaitis, etc.

You're welcome lol.

Wow, how do the Eagles not take a shot at this.
How do you know they didn't? Or didn't like what they saw in him? I'm sure they evaluated the situation and it wasn't a good fit, or Oakland was offering more.
Could there be any worse fit than what they have? Really? If the price was a 7th round pick and a mid round conditional how is that too much? Have we ever drafted a good 7th rounder?

And we wasted a mid round pick on Matthews.

I've watched every down of his NFL career, and been horribly disappointed in what I witnessed.

Curry is a classic case of having incredible measurables (height, weight, speed, strength), but lacking of any significant football sense. He was consistently out of position. He consistently missed tackles. He was an overall detriment to the Seattle defense. The only thing I thought he did well was hold the point of attack when running plays came to his side. I guess that's a size/strength ability more than anything else.

I lost count of the number of times I watched a ball carrier bounce off of him as he tried to put a giant hit on a player. He seldom wrapped up.

I lost count of the number of times that he allowed a TE to make him look silly in coverage. Vernon Davis will miss him a lot.

I lost count of the number of times that he completely over-ran plays allowing giant cutback lanes.

Final thought, and I don't want this to come off as a slam against the man. I think Aaron Curry is a good man. I would love to have him as a friend and/or neighbor and I hope he finds a role with Oakland that suits his skill set well. To say he's a devote Christian is an understatement. If you take a look at his twitter account you'll get a better understanding of what I'm referring to. LINK

Is it possible for a man's religion to interfere with his profession as a football player? If it is, Curry is certainly toeing that line.

ahh, didn't know there were that many of those types of eagles fans on here. Well im sure you can run the team better then they're doing right? I honestly don't know why they didn't look at him, but I'm sure there's a reason for it. And its for a 7th this year and a 4th or 5th the year after. thats a lot to give up for a guy who looked awful and carrol couldnt even whip into shape.
