"Privately, the Jets are saying they'd sooner keep Abraham, against his wishes, than trade him for less than a first-round pick.
Jets digging in - so nice to have a GM with some balls!
While it's nice to have some balls, hopefully this won't end up with the GM getting egg all over his face and looking like a schumck.
Which is exactly what will happen if the Jets do not find a way to move Abraham!!!
Another year with a great football player (I'll quote Blank). That's some egg. So, he is unhappy with his contract. Big deal. Half of the NFL is unhappy with their contract. Poor, poor Abe. He says he got treated like dirt.

He only got paid $7 million last year and only $8 mm this year.
What happens if Abraham stays a Jet this year, but next year they can't Franchise him again due to the cap, or needing the Franchise tag for another player and Abraham walks away as a UFA.If that happens, the new Jets FO will look like a bunch of incompetent boobs, who are in way over their heads.
Seems like wishful thinking on your part. They will have the cap to tag him again, and they will. They would only need another 4 mil next year to tag him again. There isn't a core player up for FA next year, so no need to save the tag for someone else.... you are now grasping at straws. The Jets have laid down the law.... JA for a first rounder or go away. What part of this escapes you? It's really quite simple.
For anyone that thinks there is little difference between Seattle's 1st round pick and Atlanta's second.... you obviously don't follow the draft, or understand that the Jets need a quality O lineman early.... and the quality of O lineman available between the two picks could be very big.
Rovers,If you're privvy to all of the contract restructuring that cleared $$$ of the books for this years cap and how those restructured contracts with the $$$ being pushed back will play into next years cap, along with the rookie contracts yet to be signed, then I agree, the Jets will be in fine cap shape next year.
However if you don't have that information, I'm not sure how you can be certain of the Jets cap situation next year.
As far as not needing the Franchise Tag next year for core player aside from Abraham, I'll take your word on it.
If the Jets are laying down the law of a 1st rounder for Abraham or go away, then they'll have to be satisfied with the 31st pick. Abraham is simply not worth the 15th pick. What part of this escapes you? It's really quite simple.
I'd say Jets have really got to be hoping that Seattle still has an interest in Abraham after the signnings of DT's Rocky Bernard, Russell Davis & LB Julian Peterson who can fill the pass rushing DE role.
If Seattle pulls out of the Abraham sweepstakes, the Jets will have to be happy with paying $8 million dollars to a player they don't really want and who is likely to be a headache for them, considering how the Jets have been stringing him along the last couple of years.
Personally I don't really care where Abraham goes, or if he stays with the Jets. I just hope they don't screw it up.
