per Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle (@JeromeSolomon):

Breaking news: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson arrested last night in Houston for resisting arrest by HPD. Bond set at $1,000.

Thinking he might have shown some lateral movement, but not back to 100% obviously.

2. One thing I kept forgetting to mention that came up during my time in Minnesota revolved around the much-discussed nickname for Adrian Peterson. In college at Oklahoma, he was known as AD, as in All Day. Yet it hasn’t translated to the NFL, where people call him AP, as in his initials. So, um, which is it? ”I’ve gotten to the point where I just say, 50-50,” Peterson told me. “People call me, ‘AD’ and ‘AP.’ So, I’ll accept both of them. I’ve been ‘AD’ my whole life. Any time I go home, I’m talking to friends from home, ‘AD’ is what they call me.“
Can we please stop calling this guy Average Draft Position now?

Um, no.

per Judd Zulgad of ESPN:

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested in Houston late Friday night and charged with resisting arrest, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The paper reports that Peterson remains in the city jail waiting to post, or be released on $1,000 bond, according to data from the Houston Police Department.

The offense listed for Peterson is "resisting arrest/search unclassified." There was no other information immediately available.

Peterson is a native of Palestine, Texas, but spends his offseasons in the Houston area. He has spent this offseason rehabilitating a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament that he suffered in his left knee on Dec. 24 in Washington.

per PFT:

For now, the events leading to the Saturday morning arrest of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson aren’t clear. Soon, they likely will be.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the incident culminating in Peterson’s arrest was captured by one or more surveillance cameras. Multiple persons also witnessed the event.

According to the source, Peterson, his girlfriend, and some family members were at a nightclub in Houston. At closing time, a group of police officers entered the club, and they began instructing the remaining patrons to leave.

Peterson wanted to get some water before he left, but an officer told Peterson that he needed to leave. Some words apparently were exchanged, but Peterson eventually walked to the exit with one of the club’s bouncers.

It’s believed that one of the officers then jumped on Peterson’s back from behind and tried to take him down. (Key word: “tried.”) Other officers then joined the fray and completed the arrest.

Peterson was charged with resisting arrest, which implies he was being arrested for something else. He is charged for now with no other crime.

Multiple witnesses recorded portions of the incident with their phones, but it’s currently believed that the best view of the interaction between Peterson and the police will come from the surveillance camera(s) at the club.

Keep checking PFT — or perhaps YouTube — for more details.

"Officer, I would appreciate if you would kindly allow me to approach the bar to I can quench this incredible thirst and soothe this parched throat"

I have a funny feeling that's not how it went down.

There's more to this than what we're hearing so far. Sounds like the cop was up to something. AP is not the guy that you would expect to show up on the police blotter.

This is a whole buncha nuthin.
It's said that we live in a world where someone gets arrested, imprisoned overnight and charged with a crime is deemed "nothing" because it won't (likely) amount to any loss of their playing time. How many of your friends get locked up for a night and it's just normal course of business or a simple misunderstanding? What a world...

That's deep. Peterson isn't my family. All I care about is if he'll line up on the first Sunday of the season. This is a whole buncha nuthin.

I'm sure Peterson is a fine, upstanding individual. But the bolded is where I have a problem. The police come in and tell everyone they have to leave and Peterson needs a glass of water before he can go? If the police are telling you to go, just go and avoid all problems.

Adrian Does Prison?

Arrested for resisting arrest. Does that make sense?
More than likely he was in or around a situation where the police wanted to separate everyone and possibly cuff them for their own safety. If he resisted and gave them trouble in that process, then he can land the resisting arrest. Smart move Adrian.
Or, then again, maybe he was one of over 7000 people who have been arrested in this country in the last 9 months for civil protest. Or, maybe he was arrested for being black. We'll see. The charge, with no rationale for why he was arrested in the first place, makes me suspicious. I certainly have seen enough police BS to make me question everything that they claim.

Here Here Jason, I understand you saying this but at the same time I also can see a guy who just wants to get some water, the club is more than happy to let him get it because I'm sure he dropped some money in there with his friends and you get some hot shot wannabe cop who wants to make a name for himself or loves the fact he has the power over a multi-millionaire, would love to know what the race was of the police officers. I'll wait to hear more details but I imagine that Peterson did very little to warrant being arrested.

The cops are trying to clear the building. Can't he just go to the Quickie Mart and get a bottle of water? Does he really need to exchange words with the police to get water first? Not sticking up for the cops here, but if I'm there I'm walking out the door. (and I base this solely on the sketchy blurb posted previously)

I used to frequent Ybor City in Tampa back in the 90s and the cops would walk thru Masquerade as the club was closing and on more than one occasion the club owner had to come over and tell them to not bother me and my friends because we were after hours guests. I'm a little surprised the club owners/managers were not all over this one.

KHOU 11 News in Houston first reported that Peterson was arrested at 2:30 a.m. for resisting arrest.

A source told NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk that Peterson's arrest was captured by surveillance cameras and several people witnessed the incident in which Peterson reportedly got into an altercation with officers after refusing to leave the club.

According to the report, police arrived at the club at closing time and instructed the patrons to leave. Peterson, who was in the club with his wife and some family members, wanted to get some water first, but an officer ordered him to leave. Words were then exchanged between Peterson and the officer. Peterson eventually went to exit the club along with a bouncer.

It is unclear what Peterson was initially arrested for, but it was reported that it took multiple officers to take him down to complete the arrest.

He was booked at the Central Jail for resisting arrest and later released on a $1,000 bond.

So an officer orders everyone out and Peterson didn't want to go yet and it escalates from there?

why don't you wait and find out the details as they're released.

I'm sure video will be all ove rthe net.

don't let that stop anybody from getting a jump on the arguing, though.

According to the Yahoo blurb, a club bouncer also helped escort him to the door. So I'm guessing he wasn't on the after-hours list.

from ABC in Houston:

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was arrested in Houston early Saturday after allegedly pushing an off-duty police officer.

Peterson -- a 27-year-old Palestine, Texas native -- was charged with resisting arrest, search or transportation. He spent the night in jail and was released after posting $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear before a judge in Harris County on Friday, July 13.

According to the Houston Police Department, Peterson was arrested just after 2am at Live! at Bayou Place on Texas Avenue near the Bayou Music Center, formerly known as Verizon Wireless Theatre.

Police said he was at a bar with a group of people when an off-duty HPD officer working security told them to leave because the bar was closing.

Officials said the group did not leave and the officer had to return and tell them to leave a second time. That's when, according to officials, Peterson said "we heard you the first time" and pushed the officer in the shoulder, causing him to stumble.

Investigators said the officer then told Peterson he was under arrest and asked him to turn around, but Peterson began yelling and turned around to face the officer instead.

It took three off-duty officers to handcuff Peterson as he allegedly continued to resist.

Peterson complained of shortness of breath when he arrived at the jail. A medic examined him and said he was fine, officials said.

A spokesman for the Minnesota Vikings told the Associated Press they "are aware of the situation and are gathering more information."

The Texas Penal Code defines resisting arrest, search or transportation in Section 38.03, stating that "a person commits an offense if he intentionally prevents or obstructs a person he knows is a peace officer or a person acting in a peace officer's presence and at his direction from effecting an arrest, search, or transportation of the actor or another by using force against the peace officer or another." The offense is a Class A misdemeanor.

Peterson went to get a drink of water, the cop probably said something like "Hey, boy are you deaf or just stupid, I said get the **** out of here" Peterson probably had a few drinks in him and said something like " Who you calling boy, I am just getting a drink of water you ****ing ***hole. Then it escalated and it ended with the cop trying to tackle him and when he couldn't more jumped on because they didn't hear what was said they just seen one cop having trouble wrestling someone to the car.
