To tell you the truth I was amazed that Spielman would actually get that much compensation for Harvin. So hopefully I am wrong again. It probably had to do with the fact that 2013 was a down year for WR prospects in the draft. This years running back class would be working against his value. I also think that many teams don't want to change their offense game plan to accommodate Peterson. He is only a mediocre receiving threat so that limits his usefulness on 3rd downs. IMO many teams are now passing to set up the run rather than the other way around.

I agree with you...I'm just saying that teams have to weigh his "specialness" versus the gamble of a first round pick...it has to be tempting for some teams (Dallas and Indy for example).

McCoy was scheduled to make $11mil this year. Marshall $7 mil. AP is scheduled to make $13 mil this year, $15 mil next year and $17mil in 2017. Combine that with his off he field issues and its easy to see him getting cut.

Well the reason I think the Vikings are trying to trade Peterson is due to the salary, his age and because he does not seem to want to play for the Vikings.

Certainly other teams know this and that hurts his trade value. Any team that did trade for him would have to be able to fit his salary under their cap and consider how that affects their other team goals.

I recall thinking they might cut Percy Harvin when he was acting up. They ended up getting really good value for him. Rick Spielman seems to have a good handle on trading.

Maybe all he can get is a 3rd round pick? I don't know what other teams would be willing to offer. At some point the Vikings would likely try to keep him and deal with tension in the locker room if need be rather than just cutting him.

For your statement. The Pats had no one remotely close to being an elite running back (nor did they spend anywhere close to the cost of an elite RB), yet they still won.

Yahoo's Rand Getlin reports Arizona's release of DE Darnell Dockett may have been to clear cap space for a run at Vikings RB Adrian Peterson.
Getlin's colleague Charles Robinson believes Arizona is Peterson's top choice. Peterson is still under contract with the Vikings, of course. Barring a restructure, his contract is untradeable. Peterson would be a foundation back for a coach who loves them in Bruce Arians. His arrival would be ominous for Andre Ellington, as Arians has always tried to eschew committees when possible.

He's AP, I think he's one of the best RB's of all-time and still the best RB in the NFL. But in terms of landing spots this is not good. Again because he's AP he'll get his but a lot better spots than facing Seattle, SF and ST.Louis division D's and likely seeing any hope of increased passing game usage go down the toilet due to Ellington.

I don't believe there's RB in the league who takes better care of his body. If he avoids another serious injury he should have a few quality years left.
