Seems like people think "considered" means it was automatic. Doesn't it mean they will take into account that he didn't play while on the exemption list and not that it *will* be used as time served? I don't see how the actions are different from what was stated even if this anonymous executive actually said this.

Can we get updates here for fantasy football purposes only. No debates on how to properly discipline a child, no arguing about cultural differences between the north and south, nobody is allowed to comment on whether they got spanked as a child and no discussion of whether or not this is making us soft as a society/country/whatever. Now if AP wins his grievance to be removed from he CEL, he can play as early as this week while he appeals the 6 game suspension. Just what the NFL wants for PR. A drawn out court battle that they have a 50\50 chance of having their 6 game suspension reduced while the player they punished can get back on the field.

Its a possible scenario. Not sure luck plays into it. His grievance is decided tomorrow. If he's removed from the CEL, the Vikings have to decide whether to cut him or play him. They can't send him home because of the whole TO thing.

Didn't an arbitrator decide that AP would be suspended for the remainder of the year? If so, is this arbitrator neutral or employed by the NFL? Who decides the appeal? If the arbitrator is neutral I wouldn't expect the appeal to be successfull, and if it is, I only think the suspension would be reduced to 3-4 games.

The grievance for the CEL is separate from any appeal he will file.

I find it "funny" that his letter mentions what ADP said the day he was originally charged, but does not take into account ANYTHING he said a few weeks later when he had time to reflect on his actions..

I use to like Goodell.. But he continues to f'up so many things that it is time for him to go and move onto someone who won't switch positions depending on the wind..

ETA.. Don't forget.. No matter what happened here, the Vikings were about 80% sure they'd be trading him in the off season. So, in that regard, they Definitely want him to play so as to up his trade value..

No, because this is in fact not the thread for the highly charged discussion of what he did. There is a thread for that. This thread isn't minimizing his actions, but trying to stay objective in regards to "football matters". You will not find any "sympathizers" here. Simply people vested in Fantasy Football awaiting a quick decision.

I grabbed Peterson off the wire two weeks ago and I am satisfied with the news because now I know what to do with him on my roster. I don't feel he had any "right" to play, just that he deserved the right to be treated by the NFL in transparent and quick manner. And I think that is all most posters here wanted as well.

We will now have an appeal with a demand for an independent arbitrator - the Rice matter involved a federal judge that was brought in, and that decision is looming - followed by a lawsuit with a request for an injunction.

In all of this Goodell and others could be asked to testify. So the truth will out.

I heard Smith and Florio on the Dan Patrick show this am and the union is pssed.

With the Saints they dropped the matter when sued and as soon as it appeared Goodell or others at the NFL would have to testify.

With Rice they lied about seeing the video.

Talk is cheap. AP didn't do much to account for his actions. Even if he was faking it, he should have spent his off time in counseling, maybe a speaking tour around the state, etc. That could have gone a long way. His advisors should be fired.

No, because this is in fact not the thread for the highly charged discussion of what he did. There is a thread for that. This thread isn't minimizing his actions, but trying to stay objective in regards to "football matters". You will not find any "sympathizers" here. Simply people vested in Fantasy Football awaiting a quick decision.

I grabbed Peterson off the wire two weeks ago and I am satisfied with the news because now I know what to do with him on my roster. I don't feel he had any "right" to play, just that he deserved the right to be treated by the NFL in transparent and quick manner. And I think that is all most posters here wanted as well.

So hop off your box and, yes, post your outrage in the appropriate thread.

Meanwhile the way in which they did it violated the unions rights to due process under the CBA and is completely inconsistent with other cases of a similar nature with lesser players.

It really feels like Goodell deliberately kept Peterson on the Exempt List so that he could suspend Peterson for exactly 6 games and not have Peterson come back this season.

I think that Adrian has gotten caught in the middle of much bigger forces than he should, but that is the reality of the situation. Child abuse/punishment ... whatever you feel fits is swept up in Ray Rice saga. But more so, the NFLPA appears to have decided this is the case they want to take the NFL to the mat on. During the CBA negotiations, there were many on here and in the NFL world questioning why they did not address the personal conduct policy. NFLPA answer - they wanted to focus on more $$$ and less practice time and would deal with it later (ie litigation). So the NFLPA gave away the opportunity to have a say in this process to get other items on their wish list.

Cris Carter stated this morning that AP has not been going to prescribed counseling and has text several times in the recent months that he would still discipline his kids the same way. And the NFLPA advising AP to not meet with the Commissioner last Friday as well as not providing requested information was basically giving the NFL the middle finger. Not the best way to resolve this in positive manner, instead it appears the NFLPA may be throwing AP under the bus to allow them grounds to attack Goodell's position and decisions.

There were some "rumblings" that some on executives didn't want him back.. But those were anonymous sources so could have been a Secretary of an executive for all we know.

The team themselves wanted him back and the Public opinion in the area had switched from 75% never wanting him to play for the Vikings ever again when the story and pictures first broke.. to 75% wanting him back when he pleaded "no contest" to the charges..

i do not think they are looking forward to sinking a ton of money into a national PR nightmare on a season where they have no real hope. I may be wrong, but I do not think ownership wants him back.

ETA.. Don't forget.. No matter what happened here, the Vikings were about 80% sure they'd be trading him in the off season. So, in that regard, they Definitely want him to play so as to up his trade value..

Now.. Not sure what if anything they could get for him .. especially since they said they won't consider allowing him to play until a few weeks before the NFL Draft..

what is?? That they were going to trade him?? He is 30+.. and currently has a $15,400,000 Cap hit for 2015, $15,000,000 for 2016 and $17,000,000 for 2017..

There was no way he was playing for the Vikings under those numbers next year.. so either he'd renegotiate(20% chance) or be traded(80% chance) and the feeling up here was that he would more then likely be traded...

Sure the % are a guess.. But it was the basic feeling up here with those in the know..

He beat the hell out of a child - who gives a rip about the commissioner's consistency here? I don't. The message is clear, in my mind: If you and an adult have a dispute - even one that involves grotesque, unnecessary and vile actions such as the Rice incident - you are still dealing with two adults. If you harm a child there will be severe consequences. Simple as that.

All of you need to wake up - Goodell has every right to assess the punishments on personal conduct violations off the field.

The NFLPA gave that authority to Goodell so they could get more $$ and less practices, hitting in practices, etc. This is an issue that was brought up several times when the CBA was being negotiated. I think the only reason the NFLPA /M Smith are making a "stand" is due to M Smith being challenged for his leadership - mostly over this issue.
