Adrian Peterson Status Updates (1 Viewer)

Terrible OL, terrible playcalling but, honestly, he looked like he lost a step.
Yeah, especially when he shot through the gap for 8 and when he dragged 5 defenders for a first down. Or when the vikings got the ball on a fumble recovery, threw 3 incompletions and missed the field goal. Or when he was benched for not picking up simultaneous rushers from the edge and middle.

:triplefacepalm:

AP is actually the one thing that didn't look bad. He looked pretty awesome on several carries. The play calling was absolutely horrible.

NORV'S getting old, looks like he's lost a step too.

Only reason I'm not freaking, this is the first real football for him since week 1 last year. Might not have been a terrible idea to get him a few reps in the pre-season. Although from the sound of it they didn't exactly get him the ball enough and the game plan sucked.

10 carries x 31 yds according to "reality".

This was my thoughts as well. He basically showed flashes but he hasn't taken a football hit in over a year. The Vikings obviously have optimism in what they have in Teddy also so I think this is one of those things that, come week 5 or so, he will have one of his typical days and everyone will change their tune.

It's week one. I saw a LOT of players not live up to their expectations in the first week of the season. It doesn't mean I'm selling Andrew Luck, Nelson Agholor, Calvin Johnson, or a whole host of guys all of us expert genius ff guys just assume get 30 points every week.

Reality says Calvin Johnson, Andrew Luck, Nelson Agholor, C.J. Anderson, and about 20 other "studs" didn't give you wet dreams either. You want to dump them for Jerricho Cotchery, Eric Decker, and that group that did well in this one week?

Since when has Nelson Agholor been anointed a stud? He was a decent college WR but not a stud and certainly not Calvin, A J, Julio, or even Amari stud. He was over hyped.

Anyone holding any Vike should be concerned. Vike fans should be concerned. That was an unprepared team without a viable offensive or defensive game plan last night.

I doubt 31 yards is the norm for Peterson this year, but the people who convinced themselves that sitting on his butt for a year was going to help him were delusional. Anyone who thought (or thinks) he has a 2000 yard season in those old legs are delusional as well

The run where he showed burst and got 8 yards was a vintage 40 yarder in 2013. I thought Dbs closed on him easily last night. Fact that his line isn't very good doesn't help either.

What about the chip? You know...the one he has on his shoulder because people were being mean to him about stuffing leaves in his 4 year olds son's mouth and open up his scrotum? If there's one thing I've learned from sports talk shows it's that a guy with a chip is unstoppable. :oldunsure:

This #### is getting old

I don't think there's much to be worried about.

Giving AP just 4 carries in the first half was detrimental to any chance they had of establishing the run with such a terrible o-line. I thought he looked pretty good as a runner considering he hasn't played in a year or so, plenty of YAC. Promising signs out of the backfield in the passing game though.

Improve the o-line and play calling and he should be fine.

i believe dilfer said he was a dragon and was going to light that field on fire, or some such nonsense

I agree with you but there were a lot of people that thought he would be hugely targeted and do very well in ppr last night and it was just an example that came to mind. People expected a lot from a lot of players and my point is we have to be realistic and understand that not every ff guy drafted is going to score 15-30 points every single week.

I think the difference you are seeing is not Peterson's ability (lack of) but the fact that, in the past, taking the handoff 5 yards closer (not shotgun) meant that he was already in full speed/truck mode by the time those DBs got to him and he could either distance himself from them, run through them, or they simply didn't get the best tackle on him (or didn't want any part of him).

It may take a few weeks for him to get used to their new formations. Have to remember, all these other RBS played like this last year. Peterson didn't. This is new to him. It's like being a PS4 guy playing a game and then playing the same game with an Xbox controller. You know it but you have to get that muscle memory going to get the confidence back.

Agreed, they looked like garbage out there against a bad team. I'm not as concerned about whether AP still has what it takes as I am with the inept playcalling and poor excution of the surrounding players.

Abandoning the Run so quickly is ridiculous. Starting off passing three straight times and punting is ridiculous. The 9ers didn't have to fear anything because ADP was barely used to keep them honest. Bridgewater and that WR corps is not going to scare anyone. I'm rolling the guy out again next week. But man, I'm not confident the way he was used.

it was two straight play-action passes to be fair. they got cute, but they were trying to trick the 49ers and everyone else who thought peterson would get the ball on the first two plays.

The whole offense has changed. He will have to adapt to it.
yeah it was strange. never seen peterson in so many shotgun formations or the vikings using so many spread formations. and never seen him in on so many 3rd and longs. he's been a 2 down back his whole career.

those are the takeaways.

upside is for the first time in his career, peterson is a three down back and possibly could have 50+ catches. downside is bridgewater didn't look capable of sustaining much of an offense. he was wildly inaccurate last night.

Not worried yet, I think reports of San Francisco's demise were a bit premature, all the shifting and blitzing seemed to rattle Bridgewater and they did a great job of plugging the run lanes as well. Maybe some rust there on ADP's part but I would expect the whole offense to look a lot better starting this week at home against the Lions.

I thought he looked like crap. It looked to me like he was struggling in pass protection as well... like the speed of the game caught him off guard all over again.

As far as "showing flashes"... guys do that just as often on their way OUT as UP, so I wouldn't get too warm over that.

he's the one true elite playmaker they have on the team...they got smoked and didn't use him nearly enough....if they want to win games they'll figure it out.

Yes he was. And now he has to prove that all over again. The 49ers D did not looked impressed.

Was there a confirmation that he was hurt in the 4th QTR when his back-ups were playing... or are the Vikes just keeping him fresh for the playoffs?

I think we came away with very different impressions of Peterson.

To me he looked explosive with power, speed and effort in his very limited opportunities with very few holes.

Send this quote to the Dolphins staff.

Was it just me or did he seem to not know the offense? He was asking teddy what to do 10+ times, the protections he missed looked like he didnt know his responsibility, etc. There is definitely skmething left innthe tank, i amnnot panicking yet.

"They're expecting a run on 1st down. We'll surprise them with play action!"

"The draw play on 2nd and 10 never works (which is true), so we'll pass it here and try to pick up the first down"

"3rd and 10. Gotta pass to pick up the first down"

<punt>

Nothing like playing the lions to get ur stats back in order
Wasn't sure if you were serious at first, then I saw your location :)

Obvious to us homers that the 2015 Lions defense minus Suh and Levy is nowhere near as stout as last years.

I'll be worried if he doesn't look right this Sunday though

Dude's faced stacked fronts his whole career, but I can think of thirty (30) reasons why it's more of a problem now than it was in Fall 2013.

I think he was playing on the fact that he is now 30 years old.

I agree. On the early sack, he misstepped and missed both guys.
