Ahman Green out 3 Weeks? Slaton to see more time with 1st team? (1 Viewer)

:lmao:

Green injured himself last week, was scheduled to be out for this game and the next preseason game, is listed as day to day.

Brown is not yet ready to return.

Slaton will run with the first team the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I had heard, so maybe nothing has changed all that much. But that's why I said, I didn't hear the presser or anything, so maybe the blogger is just making a bigger deal about this than needs to be made. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, which could be possible too, haha.

What about Darius Walker from ND?

IMO Slaton is not a big time player, I question his toughness. I think HOU has better options, Walker being one of them.

Have you watched Slaton at all this preseason? He's shown the most by far.

Ahman Green Injury and Steve Slaton

I will put a disclaimer and say that this is coming from a blog, and I didn't hear Kubiak's press conference personally, so I have no way to verify what is being said here. Just wanted to pass this along.
I watched today's press conference live and Kubiak said nothing about Green missing three weeks. He was asked to comment on Slaton and specifically whether his play warranted reps with the first unit.

I think Brown played in the last game vs. the Saints.

Ok thanks for the information. I guess the blogger wasn't totally in tune with what Kubiak was saying then.......

I have not. Fill me in on Slaton.I think the HOU RB could be a sneaky pickup in the middle rounds. Do ou think slaton could be a viable RB2 if he gets the no.1 spot?

I will post the transcript from today presser when it is available in the texans pre-season thread, but to give some clarity to this thread,

Per Kubiak, Green's inujury was thought to be a 3 weeker when it occurred, so there are two weeks left.

Chris Brown played last and did not perform well

Per kubiak, slayton has earned the chance to play with the first teamers. Makes incorrect cuts, but has speed. Note: statistically, he has had the best pre-season.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!

Slaton's a work in progress, and he's yet to run with/against first-teamers, but there's no doubt in my mind that he's the most talented of the Texans running backs. Ahman Green and Chris Brown are veterans who can probably get 3.8 ypc and pick up the blitz and know their assignments, but they cannot be trusted to stay healthy. Walker and Taylor have not separated themselves from the pack. Slaton, on the other hand, runs with a sense of urgency that I don't see from his RB teammates. Last night he made some pretty quick reads, took that one cut that Gibbs and Kubiak demand, and hit the hole. He also showed a willingness to ram his head into a pile of tacklers and push forward for whatever he could get instead of dancing in the backfield like many rookie backs. He has a burst the others lack. The only thing keeping him from becoming the eventual starter is his ability to pass block and pick up the blitz. He did it once last night and the coaching staff had to be pleased. He stoned the guy, which gave Rosenfels enough time to make the completion for a first down.Is he a viable RB2? Not yet. With the Texans murderous opening schedule, I don't see Kubiak investing enough trust in him over the first five weeks to make Slaton a guy you'd start at RB2 on your fantasy squad. Of course, this applies to Green and Brown as well. However, I think Slaton is a good pick for your bench for later in the year, because I see him becoming the main guy over the second half of the season.ETA: I'm real high on the Texans passing game, and I think Schaub and AJ are going to post big numbers this year, but even this homer won't reach for any of the backs. I'd take a mid-late flier on Slaton.
