AL ASG starters leaked (1 Viewer)

Per Rotoworld:

The New York Post is reporting that Cliff Lee will start the All-Star Game for the AL squad.

Someone isn't going to be invited to the TBS Christmas party. The Post is revealing the names of the All-Star starters the day before they were set to be announced tomorrow. According to George King, the AL starters are C Joe Mauer, 1B Kevin Youkilis, 2B Dustin Pedroia, 3B Alex Rodriguez, SS Derek Jeter, OF Manny Ramirez, OF Josh Hamilton, OF Ichiro Suzuki and DH David Ortiz. Milton Bradley is expected to be the replacement for Ortiz in the lineup. The Post also says the plan is for Mariano Rivera to pitch the last inning of the game.

Pedroia is having a good year but its a shame MVP candidate Kinsler wasnt voted in. Jeter doesnt deserve it but since its in Yankee Stadium I dont mind.

I've lost a lot of respect for the players as well as they just punch their ballot for guys who have done it in the past. May as well just have the 4th place Yankees and 2nd place Red Sox play the NL. Varitek at .209 an All-Star. David Ortiz hurt (fans mess up) most of the first half an All Star. Jeter, no. Manny, no. Pedroia over Kinsler, lol. It's a joke. White Sox lead MLB in ERA and get no pitchers. Go get that WS home field for us Red Sox and Yanks, as you certainly won't be using it yourselves.

Newberg says it better than I can:
The same Pedroia whom Kinsler is out-hitting (.328 to .313, and 118 hits to114)), out-slugging (.544 to .462), out-reaching (.387 to .357), out-OPS-ing(.932 to .819), out-producing (53 RBI to 39, 196 total bases to 168),outscoring (77 to 60), out-homering (14 to 9), out-doubling (28 to 25),out-tripling (4 to 1), outwalking (33 to 22), and outswiping (23 to 9).Kinsler's 5.79 range factor is tops among AL second basemen. Pedroia's 4.69is next to last among those who have played at least 60 games at second.Fans either keyed in on the strikeout totals (Kinsler has 48, Pedroia 32) orerror totals (16 to 5 -- but in 96 more chances), or voted for laundry.

I've long since stopped calling it an All-Star game; it's a high school popularity contest. Of course, they had to pack on a few more Red Sox as reserves...

Varitek? Ugh
They really need to do something about something like this. It's one thing to get voted in by the fans, but for a manager to pick a player just because he is on his team is a joke. No way should he be an all star with a .209 average. :goodposting:

They definitely voted cuz he was a Sock. But at least he deserves to be in the game even if as a backup so I dont care that much. The NL OFers outside of Braun was a worst travesty.

Mussina deserved to go but I honestly cant see a single pitcher who I wouldve kicked out for him. Giambi also deserved it over a 3rd catcher like Varitek.

I can't think of a worse all-star reserve from a good team ever. Complete and utter :bs:Boston has enough all-stars and Varitek is just piling on IMO. ####udome and Jeter being starters shows homerism and so does Pedroia proving Red Sox fans who claim they are "baseball people" first, only fill out their ballots with check marks next to all their crappy players. But Veritek getting the players vote just sucks. Terrible.

Just for clarification I don't really care who makes the all-star game unless I have a horse in the race which I don't. I just want the AL to win, nothing more or less.

uhhh, dumb###, he was voted in by the players, not chosen by Francona....
uhhh....then change the Francona part of my comment to the players. The point remains the same. It's a joke.

Well, you can't make the laundry argument, as it's the players voting. You can't make the idiot fans argument, as it was those who know the game best (the players themselves) voting. So then, why do you think they voted him in? I am curious what your theory is.

The theory is the players don't give a damn. Otherwise, there is no way he gets in. What a joke.

I can see that you have given this theory a lot of thought...For what it's worth, I am sure that Varitek is not keen in the least of his selection. Lotta unwanted focus on his paltry stats this year...

Mussina deserved to go but I honestly cant see a single pitcher who I wouldve kicked out for him.
Moose has been MUCH better than I and almost everyone expected, but he is no All Star. The only stat he is even close to elite in is wins, and he's only one part of about a dozen (give or take) that leads to those wins. When you're one of the league leaders in run support you tend to win more games than you should. Shaun Marcum and John Danks both have ERA's over a full run lower than Mussina and have across the board superior numbers, but their win totals combined don't even match Mussina's.Per usual there were a lot of players voted in that should not have made it and there were a lot left off that should not have, but Moose is definitely not one of them.

It depends on when the players voted.A month ago, believe it or not, Varitek was an all-star.

ESPN just stated that Milton Bradley was the only AL West All-Star WHILE looking at the list that included Young and Kinsler. Are we sure they are the pros up there in Bristol?

Josh Hamilton plays for the Texas Rangers, who are in the AL West.

I'm still researching when players vote, but it doesn't make sense that they would vote a month and a half before the game itself. If that's the case, would someone like John Smoltz be on the AS team right now? It just seems as though even many of the player votes are becoming more of a popularity contest than actually caring about who is actually deserving, that's all.

Sorry, meant to say All-Star subs.I thank God everyday that Josh Hamilton is a Ranger. Thinking of getting a tattoo to commemorate.

I just checked...Tek's last 4 weeks of 'production'

.118/.228/.176

Had to double check the numbers...
