Alexander OUT.....Week 7? (1 Viewer)

(Rotoworld) Coach Mike Holmgren said Shaun Alexander may not return until Week 8.

Impact: This isn't a huge surprise. Alexander's status for next week is in question, and this news supports that. It sounds like he'll be questionable at best by Wednesday.

I'd rather see him sit until he's totally healed than to go in there and reinjure himself and miss more time. I've been able to get by without him, but would love to have him healthy for my playoff run.

:goodposting: i agree with this guy right here.

"SEATTLE -- Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said running back Shaun Alexander will be out at least two more weeks with a broken bone in his left foot.

Holmgren said Alexander is walking around without pain, but the team wants to make sure the crack mends so it doesn't re-break and require surgery.

Alexander injured the foot in the season opener at Detroit.

Last season, Alexander rushed for 1,880 yards and scored a league-record 28 touchdowns in earning NFL MVP honors. He has just 187 yards, an average of 2.9 yards per carry, and two touchdowns through three games. His career average is 4.5 yards per rush.

He gained fewer than 100 yards in each of Seattle's first three games this season, his first such streak in two years.

The Seahawks, 4-1 this season, are 1-1 in Alexander's absence.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report"

This is on the front page of ESPN. I don't see anyone talking about it here. Does anyone else think this is just coachspeak?

474 owners in the Subscribers Contest are now walking out on the ledge :o

Said it before, say it again -- just want him for the stretch in my Dynasty - got Westbrook and TJones helping out in his absence.

I might be upset in a redraft, but then again, he might be back for the playoffs...

I'm throwing a 3rd round pick to the Alexander owner in my league. I have Tomlinson and Parker but thinking that Alexander matched with LT for the playoffs would be interesting.

Nothing new on Alexander

Coach Mike Holmgren doesn't expect to have RB Shaun Alexander back this week or possibly even the next week. This is a longer timetable than he initially gave, but consistent with the possible 4-6 weeks we alluded to weeks ago.

"It appears as though it will be a couple more weeks," Holmgren said. "I met with him today and he's feeling great and really is champing at the bit to come back. Thinks he could practice. In meeting with the doctors and trainers, they took some more pictures, it is healing up, it's right on schedule, but they are going to play it safe. He probably won't be ready to go this week. ... With that type of injury, even though some players are known as fast healers on different types of injuries, the bone really has to knit and the crack has to knit. I'm not so sure there is a lot of difference between players that way. When doctors say this type of injury takes 'X' amount of weeks, even though a player may feel as though he is ready to play, and some people have put players out on the field a little earlier, in Shaun's case, because he is a running back and because we can't afford to have him reinjure that if we can avoid it, we're going to err on the side of caution."

This CNN SI article also has Alexander targeting Oakland for his return.

This was news to me, though:

For Alexander, two more weeks is better than two months-plus. He said that is what doctors initially told him could be his absence after he broke the foot he had badly bruised in the Sept. 10 opener.

Peter King reports that he will miss the next 2 weeks...so he might not be back till week 9.
And in perfect Peter King fashion he sites no source for this. Purely speculation of his own wandering thoughts.
I'm with you guy, I just saw it on another blog and thought it was some food for thought.
And it wont make him come back faster even if you dont like King .He suffered a broken foot you dont just come back in 3 - 4 weeks.

If SA misses week 7, I'm fine w/ that. Heck, even if he misses week 8, cool by me. BUT, I absolutely need him back for the week 9 game or I could be toast. Westbrook is on a BYE that week, & I'd be stuck w/ using Jerious Norwood or Ron Dayne alongside Fred Taylor...ugh...

If he misses 7 and 8, and practices for week 9, it's unlikely he'd play a full game. He might play part of the game, but I'm not sure how confident you can be in his ability that week. Then again, a part-time SA might be the best option. I think week 9 is the absolute earliest for him to see the field again.

We'll pass this note along to him.

Just in case anyone is looking for some kind of point of reference, I did complete the trade, throwing a 2007 3rd rounder to the SA owner.

As an SA owner (sitting at 5-0-1), this quote from Shawn Peters is consistent with my thinking:

So the real question is, "How should I, an Alexander owner, proceed?" It's a question I've gotten a lot from my www.TalentedMrRoto.com readers who know me as the site's trade maven and inventor of the "Grand Theft Roto." Thing Is, I haven't had a standard response, because the answer depends on your record. If you have four wins or more, stand pat. He'll help you down the stretch and even if he misses two more games, you'll at least be at .500 when he returns. If you're hovering around .500, listen to any realistic offers but make sure you get back solid value. If you can score Tatum Bell and Roy Williams for him, you have to do it because those two players could be the difference between being 3-5 when Alexander returns or being 5-3.And if you are off to a wretched start, you pretty much have to deal him for as many surprisingly good players as you can get. Maybe you find a team that's already on it's way to the playoffs and is willing to part with Frank Gore, Matt Leinart, and Bernard Berrian or Greg Jennings for your one sidelined stud. It's a deal you might have to take since you won't have any chance at the playoffs in two weeks with zero production from your first pick.

The reciprocal side of this situation is the "Buy Side" of Alexander.

If you are sitting as a likely playoff team and the Alexander team in your league is struggling, it could be a smart time to "buy" Alexander, even recognizing that the overall Seattle running game is weaker than 2005.

I am trying to trade for him in exchange for Tatum Bell. As much as I love Bell, the Bronco running game this year is not what it has been, in my mind all tying back to the lack of faith in Plummer.

Alexander offers more upside than Bell. Consider a similar type of trade offer.

Wait. You got SA for a 2007 3rd round rookie pick?
10 team league. all TD's = 6, 1 PPR for all positions, -1 for INT's, 1 per 15 passing, 1 per 10 rushing/receiving. This is also a keeper league - keep up to 2 players for no more then 3 years. If they are kept the 2nd year you lose the draft pick where they were drafted, if you keep them the 3rd year they are automatically a 1st round pick. Players keep their contract status if traded. The guy with Alexander is 0-6. Not only is Alexander hurt, but pretty much the rest of his team is/was as well. Also, he has the most points against this year so his luck isn't that great. Before adjusting for the trade, his team is: Culpepper, LeftwichMcAllister, Bush, Alexander, F. Taylor, WashingtonFitzgerald, Gabriel, Edwards, MasonTony G, V. DavisWilkins, FeelyBucs, ChiefsEveryone else is his division is 2-4 or better, so he is only 2 games out of a possible playoff spot, but he is dumping and preping for next year.My team is 4-2 in a division with a 6-0 team and everyone else has at least 2 wins. My team before the trade is:Grossman, FavreTomlinson, Parker, Turner, MaroneyBoldin, Glenn, Walker, Branch, KennisonWatson, A. SmithElam, StoverSteelers, RedskinsAlexander was a 2nd year keeper for his team, so that means if he is kept next year is automatically a 1st orund pick (he would have been anyway) and he can only stay on a team for next year and then has to be thrown back.My keepers going into this year were LT for a 1 - he is on his 3rd year and I have to throw him back; and Parker who was a 2nd year so if I keep him next year he is worth an automatic 1st. I drafted Maroney (actually traded for him at the draft after he was taken because he was the player I keyed on in all my drafts) with the intent on using him sporadically this year and keeping him and possibly Parker for next year. But, with Turner doing so well and him only costing me a 15th round pick I could keep him as well. So I have 3 keeper options at RB, not to mention Boldin for a 2nd round pick if I want.I really didn't need to do this trade at all. It was more a defensive move. I know that at least two teams in my division were looking at Alexander for a 4th rounder, and I couldn't let that happen. Also, because I worked this deal with the guy we also made another one where I gave him Alex Smith and an 8th round pick for Gonzo. I threw in Kennison because I would have had to drop him and I never use him with the core I have. So, going into next year I will have to throw LT back, but I have Alexander as a 1st rounder, Parker as a 1st rounder (our rules would let me keep both but lose my 1st and 2nd round pick), Maroney for like a 6th rounder, and Turner for a 15th rounder. Boldin is also there for a 2nd rounder is I was so inclined. I can only keep 2.Again, it was more a defensive trade for me to protect what I feel is a solid chance at toppling the 6-0 team in my division, giving me more options at our trade deadline because now I'm stocked at RB and could probably flip a player or two for an uber stud QB like Peyton (who in our system routinely hits 40 points without blinking) and have a team full of top players up and down heading into the playoffs.Sorry that was so long. I know you guys like explanations over here.

If you were a playoff team, would you trade Rudi and Randy Moss for Alexander and Burress (dynasty leagee)

Does most everyone think Alexander will be in stud form for the playoff stretch this year?
