As you can tell by now, I'm partial to Brazilians. (The country and the spa treatment)
Maybe its because they'd always play old reels of Brazilian team highlights at our lunch breaks at soccer camp in the 80's.
I'm also partial to moustaches and need a midfielder, its going to be fun to watch my team dribble...
4.4 - Rivelino
The son of Italian immigrants, he was famous for his large moustache, bending free kicks, long range shooting, accurate long passing, vision, close ball control and dribbling skills. He also perfected a football move called the "flip flap", famously copied by Romário, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent years. He is widely regarded as one of the most graceful football players ever, and among the best midfielders of his generation. With the close control, feints and ability with his left foot, Diego Maradona named Rivellino among his greatest inspirations growing up. In 2004, he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living players.
Rivellino was a key member of Brazil's 1970 FIFA World Cup winning team, which is often cited as the greatest-ever World Cup team. Wearing the number 11 jersey, Rivellino was deployed on the left side of midfield and scored 3 goals, including the powerful bending free-kick against Czechoslovakia, which earned him the nickname "Patada Atómica" (Atomic Kick) by Mexican fans.
When you’re considered to be the fourth greatest player in Brazilian history after Pele, Zico, and Garrincha, that’s about as great an accomplishment as there is. Rivelino was lauded for his grace on the pitch, as well as his dazzling array of moves, which included his patented “Elastico,” in which he faked going right while keeping control of the ball and then spinning it to his left. This move has become a staple in modern football, popularized by the likes of Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Zidane, and others.
He was also a quick thinker, and one example of this was when he saw the opposing teams goalkeeper finishing up his pre-match prayer right as the whistle blew to begin the game. Rivelino took the kickoff and booted a long-range shot that beat the startled goalkeeper for what is considered to be the fastest goal in football history.

When you have Andrea Pirlo, you have the quintessential DLP or Regista. But it's imperative to team him up with a DM who can terrorize offenses. From my research, I seriously considered Pirlo's "real-life" playing partner for AC Milan, Rino Gattuso. But upon further review, I realized that there was another "quintessential, position-defining player" that would make for a much more interesting pairing:
4.05 Claude Makélélé
I have no idea if this is a reach. Probably so. But Makelele re-defined the position to the point where he had a certain role named after him.
As Zidane said when Real Madrid sold him to Chelsea " Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine? "
Steven Gerrard called him the toughest player he played against.
He basically shut down No. 10's of the opposing teams.

I can't believe the last five picks or so. You guys just decimated my list. After losing Cann and Ibra, I thought I would get Pirlo. He would make me adjust the formation but it would work. After losing Pirlo (who would have been perfect with Keane), I was thinking Mak would be an ok replacement. Riv and Scholes were also in my mix. I'm done making lists.

Rivelino was on my shortlist. Makelele was on my radar, but he's a tough player to value - he's not the all-around type I've been drafting, but he was really good at what he did. He'll work well with Pirlo.

I think I've settled on three possible players with my next two picks (hopefully I'll still be alive when they actually happen with this torrid pace).
One guy is a guy I thought would have been long gone by now and I'll be more than happy to take with my next pick.
The other two play the same position with little flexibility, so it's one or the other, and it's a classic old vs new type of situation. Older guy has obvious and undeniable pedigree, but newer guy, while also very good, has more name recognition. It's another situation where I hope one or the other is taken before me.

OK, I'm kind of torn. I have options in defense and I just don't know how these players will be regarded. I have ideas at CM/DM, but not as many options frankly. I probably shouldn't be taking another flair player, but I worry that I need another elite creative option in case teams pack the middle and try to mark Zico out of the game. So I need a creative playmaker from the flank.
Luis Figo will do nicely. Only Messi has had more assists in La Liga. 2000 Ballon D'Or. 2001 World Player of the Year. If his international career is considered a disappointment, we should still remember that he made the team of the tournament for two Euro Championships and a World Cup and had a runner-up finish in the Euros and a semi-finals finish in the 2006 World Cup.
