All Time Soccer/Football Draft and Tourney (1 Viewer)

Watch Gentile's(oh, the irony) manmark Maradona in their '82 (I think) WC match; it was borderline criminal, but oh, so efficient.  Catenaccio!

ETA: Charvick is a true genius, a savant...I have aalways held him in highest esteem, especially in regards to his unequivicated knowledge of the Beautiful Game. Problems wits my phone, just curious to see who his last pick was.. thanks.    There's beautiful work being done in here, gentlemen, beautiful work.  Grazie.

Another reason to love Vieira IMO.

Keane was certifiable.  Not in the usual "haha sports fans say a lot of crazy things" way, but actually full on nuts.  Watching him tear his own ACL trying to kick Haaland is one of my favorite soccer memories.  The fact that he "got revenge" for it by hurting Haaland four years later tells you pretty much everything you need to know about him.  Guy's a total scumbag.

One of my next picks is going to cause me physical pain.  To the point I almost hope someone snipes me so I don't have to bite the bullet and do what's right for team Go Team Go!

Won everything, banged a lot of broads and was the best ever player for the best team. Dropped trou right before taking a PK vs Brazil, iirc in the WC.

Had to be really hard for you watching him win all those years.

Can I ask a favor since I am helping with the google sheet. Ive been relatively good with positions and Nationalities so far, but at some point, I wont know. If drafters could please put position and nationality after their player, it would really help. Im sure RHE doesnt need it, but I do.

TIA, YIC, K, THX

It still burns.  People think my anti-ManU thing is nouveau-plastic schtick because I'm a Liverpool fan, but it works the other way.  One of the reasons I picked Liverpool was because they were the historic rival to a team I hated at first sight.  Keane, for the reasons above, but also for Fergie Time (it was a real thing), for the overrated Beckham (a good player to be sure), the decade of no visitor PKs at Old Trafford (in 11 years only 3 were awarded), and the hordes, the endless hordes, of people who just wanted to get on board with the Yankees (and yes, I might have felt the same way about Liverpool had I started following soccer 10 year earlier).  I loathed everything about them.

I've probably looked at 4 different positions here, but we'll stick with Italian Defenders, and one of only 3 defenders to be a Ballon d'Or winner:

3.12  Fabio Cannavaro, Italy, Central Defender

If either Buffon or Vieira were gone at my pick he was next man up.

At least you picked a side.  Half the fun of sports is sublimating all that in-group / out-group stuff.  It's all those "I just watch for the love of the game" people that are the real problem, amirite?

This was who I wanted instead of Socrates.  Gator said, quote, "3 rounds too early".  I would've preferred him to Henry too.

He's got that intangible leadership quality too, captain of the 2006 champions.

Love the play by play of the in-house bickering

The one thing I think I know is that it's more difficult to create goals than to defend them.  There are loads of defensive players and we'll all have plenty of great ones.  But are there enough great offensive players to overcome the stud defenses?  That's tough.

With Eusebio and my trequartista Baggio, I've got some serious punch and creativity up top.  Eusebio is a handfull for any defenders of any era.  Baggio at his height was an offensive genius.

My pick is a guy that will be able to get the ball to these two, because if they are isolated at the top, what good will that do them?

3.13 Andrea Pirlo - New York City FC

Pirlo is the quintessential regista.  Basically he comes back to get the ball at all times, and the entire offense runs through him.  Pirlo is so important that you almost have to build a team around him and change the way you play.  But his ability to lock down the middle of the field offensively and control the game, and then slice open defenses with precise long balls is just what we need.

The downside to a true regista is defense, so I'll need to surround him with some serious steel in the mid-field.

A couple cool things about Pirlo:

1. His boyhood idol was Roberto Baggio.  He spent much of his formative years studying Baggio's free kicks.  Also, the duo got to play together briefly and this happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48uSYZP23Ws

2. Pirlo is one of the best free kickers in history, so with Baggio/Pirlo I should be good there.

3. He was on an amazing AC Milan team that gave away a 3 goal lead to LFC and Pirlo actually missed a penalty kick to help clinch it for Liverpool.

I don't know if Pirlo was ever the type of player to be known as the "best in the world", but he was quite important to his team.  He won 6 Serie A titles, a World Cup and 2 Champions League Titles.

That was the guy I was debating with Keane.  Great pick.  Dude was a beast for a stretch there.

If anyone is picking soon and wants to trade, let me know. Just watched a video of a guy I need to have.

Official Offer for any teams picking soon and if my guy is still there

My 4.13 and 5.5 for your upcoming pick and 7th rounder (if its a third round pick)

My 4.13 and 5.5 for your upcoming pick and 6th rounder (if its a fourth round pick)
