Alright LJ owners-who is benching him this week? (1 Viewer)

Wondering how many LJ owners will be benching him this week vs. Chicago. LT only managed 25 yards and his offense is much better. Not looking for any start/sit advice for myself here just trying to gauge the LJ community as a whole. Are you benching him, who are you starting over him?

I'm looking at benching him in favor of Jordan. Probably Lamont, possibly Michael if I can get him on waivers.

I'll never sit my First Round pick regardless of matchups. Can LJ score a couple of TDs on a superstar Bears D? Crazier things have happened in the NFL

YOU DON'T BENCH YOUR STUDS!

They're studs for a reason. LT still scored on CHI...though he only had like 25 rushing yards. A TD is a TD and that is the mother load for most leagues.

I'm thinking about starting Ahman Green over him. With as bad as the KC offense was in Week 1 and as good as the Bears defense was, I'm just not sure that I'm up for settling for 5 or 6 points.

If Chester is limited this week then I will definitely start AD over LJ. I may start AD anyway.... still thinking on that.

While not a STUD, I remember benching Ronnie Brown as my hapless Fins went to face an undefeated Bear's squad last Fall..130-140 yds and TD later left me crying in my beer and a close FF loss to boot......

LJ will be in my lineup Sunday as he is every week.................As for the Bear's D,they are good, very good, but that's why they play the games..............

Tough call on this one. I agree with never bench your studs to a point. I benched Palmer for Romo this week and it worked pretty well. There is some strategy to fantasy football. You have to know our player, his team, their strengths, matchups, etc. The only reason I am considering keeping LJ in my lineup is twofold. One, I only have C. Brown, or F. Taylor to replace him and the Bears offense isn't exactly great. This game could be close for at least a half.

If you are lucky enough to have Portis or ADP as your RB3, then you have a legit case to consider benching LJ.

If you sit LJ for a mutt like Fred Taylor, you should quit fantasy football. I have A Green or Julius Jones on my bench, & I am not even thinking about pulling LJ for them.

I expect 70 rush yards & a TD, plus 5 Receptions for 30 yards or so. The Bears lost 2 defensive starters, so his chances have to at least a little bit better than LT's, right?

In my basic scoring PPR LT had:

2 TDs(12 points)

17 yards passing(just under 1 point)

7 catches(7 points)

51 rec yards(5 points)

25 rush yards(2 points)

Thats 27 points! I understand that not every league is PPR, but even still 20 points is pretty damn good.

Don't forget that Chicago lost their Dvoracek and Mike Brown for the year. While they are used to playing without Brown and will still be a top defense, it's still a blow.

I would never bench LJ or any other top 5 RB during week 2.

To be honest, as a Bears fan, I have to say that this defense has alot harder of a time against a back like LJ. They are not really made to stop the bigger, bruising type backs.

I know LT ended up with a lot of fantasy points last week, but I'm pretty sure that:

1) LT was in fact held to 25 yards rushing and half of those were garbage yards at the end of the first half

2) KCs passing attack is worse than SDs so I'm sure Chicago will be even more comfortable stacking the box against him

3) LJ is not going to throw a touchdown to Gonzalez (like LT did to Gates)

The only two things worth hoping for are that:

1) LJ gets several catches and racks up some yardage that way (the Bears are always susceptible to short underneath passing to RBs, -see da superbowl)

2) The Bears keep turning the ball over (several times) on their side of the field - this could give him the opportunity to score a TD

I bet he ends up with about 75 total yards, 4 catches, and 0 touchdowns. I'd bench him in favor of a good backup.

Brown didn't have a TD but he did have 180 combined yards.I played Ronnie that week too, but not out of a stubbornness of "never bench your studs"-- Tatum Bell was injured for the PIT game.As an LJ owner in 2007, if you have a worthwhile RB3, this would be the one week to bench LJ. KC will be lucky to score 10 points in this game. In a freebie league with some friends I will probably try my luck with Lamont Jordan @DEN over LJ. Depending how he does against Chicago, you might consider benching him vs MIN in week 3 (if he has say < 70 combined yards against the Bears).LJ has a tough early schedule, hope you LJ owners got some RB depth early to counter that!

I'm not benching LJ this week. My choices would be to start Fred Taylor (or Chris Brown, if my waiver request is successful), Calvin Johnson or Isaac Bruce, but I will not sit my stud 1st round pick in week 2, even against a very tough defense.

Sadly, in the league I have LJ in, I'm not sure if I have many better options.. Joey Galloway or Cotchery would be my next best options if LJ is in my Flex Role.

We only HAVE to start 1 RB, flex is either a 2nd RB or 3rd WR.

But as a Kansas City homer, I can tell you that LJ is going to get absolutely blasted this week.

I mean, look at what they did to Tomlinson, and LJ doesn't have 1/2 the line, nor is he nearly as talented himself.

But... the pro-LJ crowd is right. if KC does get a turnover (not unlikely) and is inside the ten, LJ does have a chance to get a TD or two.

I think the question that needs to be asked is how many carries will L.J. get this week, I didn't beleive Herm when he said he would keep L.J. on a carry count but he kept his word. I'm not worried about the bears def but I am worried about L.J.'s workload, I beleive Herm said L.J. should be ready to carry the full load around week 4.

Another good point in this discussion. I guess the real question comes into play is the risk vs. reward. I would hate to have LJ on my bench if he went off for 120 and 2 td's vs. the Bears, but how probable is that? I can also see him getting 80 total and me killing myself knowing I should have benched him. I just don't know if I have much better options. F. Taylor, C. Brown or going 4 wide and playing S. Moss.

I have AD penciled over LJ.
same here, Portis and AD will start - LJ sits this week.
I have all three on one team.LJ will be slotted into my "flex" spot. I am confident he would do as well as most other teams' (and specifically my opponent this week's) RB3 or WR3. But, if I didn't have the flex option, he'd probably be on my pine in favor of thjose two guys. There are situations - this being one of them - where you sit your studs. But, I doubt many of you in redraft leagues have such good options.

I'm benching him in favor of Maroney, Deuce, and Henry... also have Morency, but he's not really an option right now.

i have my concerns too but i'm starting LJ for a few reasons:

1. Brandon Jacobs went down for me...if he hadn't, i might think about benching LJ

2. backups are AP and Chris Henry, who i just picked up...i wouldn't mind playing AP and Jacobs if he didn't get hurt

3. LJ is LJ. i.e., he will get his yards and carries no matter who he faces. it's painfully obvious that he's the only real offensive option other than Gonzalez. one week under his belt, some more days of practice and I think he'll be up to form. whether the Chicago D lets him run is another question, but i don't think 80yds and a TD are out of the question.

4. i'm in a PPR league, and LJ's looks are increasing...as evidenced by the first game's numbers and Herm's own words.

bottom line, he won't put up monster LJ-like numbers...but i think there is a definite points floor with him that he'll certainly reach, which i'll take over gambling on a mediocre RB who might have a nice matchup on paper.

LJohn @ Bears > LJord @ Den.

LJ has to be the biggest buy low in fantasy football right now. Seriously, people consider benching him in week 2?

That's just crazy talk.

Have LJ, ADP, Lamont Jordan and Deshaun Foster and I'm starting Lamont and ADP this weekend. LT vs. the bears scared me two days ago and Rivers' attack is head and shoulders above Huard's. Typically I'm not ever benching my studs, but this is a very different scenario. KC at the bears even without Brown and Dvoracek is not a matchup I'm comfortable with. Give me Lamont Jordan, even with Culpepper starting over LJ this week.

Mud

If I go down, I'm going down with my studs in the lineup.
:bs:
The problem is sometimes your real studs are guys you drafted after your original studs.
Like Gretzky.... anticipate where the fantasy points are going to be. LJ and the Chiefs need to return to form.... he was drafted to be a stud again, soon.Pending who is on your bench... normally I'd say dont' bench him, but you have to weigh it against other options. you should ALWAYS beg the question...(unless it's LT2... he gets shutdown on Sunday, and throws up 2 scores)

Culpepper's attack v. the Denver secondary is a better option than Hu-hard v. the Bears?I think it is a wash. And that means the more talented and reliable back is the way to go.

Peterson is one... now, LJ or Benson, two teams playing eah other in Chicago in my local league. Both sucked in week 1, but LJ went against a team he should have been able to run on, while Benson had that SD D to fight through. I'm thinking Benson right now.... the Chiefs just look putrid. No WR's, lousy QB, bad O line..... LJ... bust of the year? Might be....

There's no way I'd bench Johnson, especially in PPR.

KC will get their asses handed to them all season, heck they could win 1 game all year ...but they'll do it forcing the rock to their stud.

:)

Yes, and I don't even question it. I see more checkdowns to Lamont vs. Huard to LJ. Lamont will not get spelled whereas LJ will by Bennet quite a bit (assuming they keep drives going for more than 3 plays a series). Lamont is healthy and IMO better prepared than LJ at this point of the season. Lamont will have more opportunities as I feel the Oakland offense will be on the field more than the Chiefs offense. You don't have to agree with me, but this is my logic.Mudeta and no Kennison this week so why wouldn't the bears stack the line? Parker, Bowe and Tony G aren't scaring anyone.

Last year, yes. So far this season and per what Herm says, they are not and will not be forcing the rock to their stud.I'll take my chances in week 2.Mud

I understand your logic - like you said, I disagree. LJ caught 7 balls on 8 targets last week. w/o Kennison, he could be targeted even more. And the Bears have to adjust to the loss of two more starters after they lost Tommy Harris before the season. They are down to two DTs and they just lost their starting SS. I think the Bears can be run on this week.Inshort, I think the chances of Lamont outscoring LJ are decent, but the chances of LJ WAAAAAY outscoring Lamont are much better. I do not expect the Raiders to be close enough to give LJordan a scoring opportunity, but I think the Chiefs will have at least 2 red zone opps for LJ.

Well Levin, there will be much interest in these games as I see a few people contemplating benching LJ for another RB. You may be right in LJ getting more looks w/out Kennison, yet I still don't see the chiefs being able to run on the Bears. Chiefs o-line way < then the Chargers. Good luck to you sir.Mud

I, personally, will be skipping the Chiefs-Bears snoozefest even though I have LJ going in that game in one league. But there are some interesting matchups with the "alternative" backs - including Wash-NYG (Portis) and Minn-Det (Peterson)Raiders-Broncos is usually a good game and I am psyched to see Cutler and Henry in their home opener.

Who used to scare them?

With Portis and Westbrook hooked up in a MNF showdown I'm not sure if I would start either over LJ, even though both have decent matchups vs the run on paper. With McNabb a decent threat to go off on the 'Skins, Westbrook should get a full days work.

I'm a "Start-Your-Studs 99% Of The Time" guy, so I'll be going with LJ and Westy. Portis will have to take over the RB2 in a given week to see the field.

...or keep LJ off of it. :goodposting:
