Am I nuts for thinking about picking up Grossman? (1 Viewer)

Banger

I've never liked Grossman, never thought he was that talented but I have to say he's opened my eyes a bit. I similarly thought Orton was terrible and he showed me that I was wrong and I'm thinking Grossman may be "for real" for a little while. I've never liked Shanny teams but I've always thought he was a terrific coach that got the most of out his offenses. He's putting his stamp on this offense and he may have found a good passenger in Grossman. I thought he's looked good, Shanny has the team competitive...Dallas and NY are mash units...this team may have something to play for. Am I nuts for picking him up? Is he for real or a mirage?

Thinking of dropping Karim for him in a rabid league where there is nothing on the ww's but he's still surprisingly out there as the 11th ranked QB. I would be 3 deep at QB but several other teams only have one QB. Since everyone is working off the same pickups these days, you kind of have to start being preemptive or look for other value out there besides the shiney new WW pickups. I think I can really squeeze owners or allow myself to deal one of the other 2 QB's I have Romo/Freeman.

I have Big Ben/Freeman and i picked him up.

He could light it up all year, or bad Rex could show up at any time.

Well worth the pickup if you have space.

I just look at the roster and there is nothing sexy..maybe Helu is the only one on the offense that could be really good if everything went right. Somehow they are playing well though...

I started Grossman last week and I'm most likely rolling him out again Monday night. I have Eli/Cutler. I'm going to ride it til the wheels fall off, then look at making a trade. There's a thread on Rex here somewhere already.

Have you watched the Skins at all this year? Moss is Moss and Fred Davis is a matchup nightmare.

I know and you're right Moss is a hell of a wr. I keep expecting him to slow down for some reason but he just keeps going. Great #3 wr.

I just can't get those images of his screw ups in the Super Bowl. Classic fail.
it's burned in my brain and I think it's clouded my vision. Off to the waiver wire...I like Sig's saying of the "new reality". It's so true, things change so fast, you just have to be flexible.

Pecans for me.

I added him in my 12 teamer with 18 man rosters already having Romo and Cutler. While the main reason is for Monday night, he certainly provides insurance should Cutler get crunched as many "experts" are alluding to. I start him this week and hope the Cowboys sit Romo just to give him some heal up time. Grossman may be solid all year but doesn't instill a feeling of explosion about him. With the way injuries are occuring, having him on your roster isn't a BAD thing.

I thought of cutting Cutler to pick him up. I think he could have a better year than Cutler. Last year he averaged 17 pts/game to Cutlers 14. He only played 3 full games though. It's pretty clear the Skins offense is better right now and for the foreseeable future. Also, the matchups favor Rex as Cutler plays at GB the championship week. That's if you need him to make spot starts as your QB2. Just look at his schedule weeks 7-12.

I'm doing exactly what you are thinking about---rolling 3 deep at qb with grossman in a 12 team league.

I think he's a strong QBBC option right now. In real football I don't like him but as I just read on some other fantasy site, "just because Grossman is on your fantasy team doesn't mean you have to watch him."

He's been productive under Shanahan and if he costs you nothing it's a good bet. I'm waiting for Eli to stabilize or Bradford to blow up. Both have awful matchups so I'm starting Grossman for the second week in a row.

Money league.Have Rodgers and Eli Manning.I dropped Manning for Grossman. One reason for taking him is his fantasy playoffs schedule, weeks 14,15 & 16. No doubt Rodgers gets the start all the time but if I need a good matchup in the playoffs Grossman provides that.

Week 14- home against the Patriots(30th ranked pass defense)

Week 15- away at the NY Giants(23rd ranked pass defense)

Week 16- home againstthe Vikings(22nd ranked pass defense)

Not a bad fantasy playoffs schedule. You could do worse. That is hopeful he's still producing when the playoffs roll around. As I said I have Rodgers so taking Grossman was worth the risk to me.

Only because it is you Banger . . .

As you know I have always been a Rex supporter.

Guy went to the Super bowl in his first full season, 3rd season overall.

QBs take time to develop. Tom Brady was a bench warmer for years. Rivers, with all the talent, took years to season also (while LT carried the load). Guys like Manning are the exception. I still see Newton coming back to earth soon.

Rex was always a gunslinger. He makes some amazing throws and when he was younger lacked some judgment on the limits of his arm. I see him as older, wiser, and just beginning what should be a long run in the NFL.

Id have grabbed him myself if I didn't already have Brady on my teams...

+1 Starting Grossman on Monday

I waited on QB and took Eli as the last QB1. Seriously re-evaluating that strategy, but I would have been ok if I had selected Fitz instead. :wall:

I like Grossman. Good offense, steady, high floor and moderate ceiling imo. In my league's scoring he's steady as a rock, great QB2 w/upside.

Did not pull the trigger on time but sure got pieces of it w/ Moss and Davis!

Just dropped Cassel to pick up Grossman for my backup to Brady......Grossman plays CAR when Brady is off, which is nice.

Picked up Grossman in another 8 team start 2QB league and playing a QBBC with him. He's getting the start this week with Freeman, starting him over Bradford, McCoy and Campbell.

In this universe, Brady took over in the first game of his second season, and never looked back.
My mistake. Was a bench warmer for a year and two games. He actually took over game 3, but who is counting. My point was that QBs in the NFL usually take time to develop. For every Brady or Manning, there are 6 Rich Gannons or Eric Kramers or Trent Dilfers or Kerry Collins. I could put up a list of at least 20 QBs that did not light it up their first 3 years that went on to have very respectable seasons and NFL carreers. Usually QBs need time to season.

Grossman was thrown into the fire his first year and was injured early season in both his first two years. His first full season he went to the Superbowl. There were games he won with his arm alone. And games he lost. But with all the interceptions, he still threw for more touchdowns than any previous Bears QB with no one at WR (Muhammed did nothing afterward and Berrian is still trying to duplicate that season). And when you take the entire season as a whole, he still had a respectable td-int ratio.

But the haters will hate.

And, since I was on the subject of haters, you are very witty Brant. It always makes me think people are very smart when they try to talk down to people. Try to stay on point and not lose the forest for the trees. That would mean not to lose yourself in a detail when you know full well that the point is valid.

LOL.Beat me to it. Brady started 14 games and won a Super Bowl in his 2nd year in the league.

As for Grossman, I think he's a quality pickup. People, including myself, have a certain image of Rex that's hard to get past but he's looked decent and put up solid numbers in his 5 starts for the Skins.

Not sure how long he can keep it up but nothing wrong with riding him while he's putting up numbers. He's definitely startable right now and should be owned in all but the shallowest of leagues.

this is an interesting post.could Rex become a consistently good QB?He has made some amazing throws, and made some amazingly bad ones. and I always got the feeling that he wasnt the sharpest tool in the shed. I'm waiting for the meltdown, but maybe sexy rexy has turned the corner...................

Rolling with him in one league this week. Dropped Henne (my prev. starter) for him. Got frozen out on decent QBs in that league, so I plan on treating the QB position like the D/ST position, rummaging through scraps for a decent match-up every week.

Take the following with this in mind: I'm a Cowboy fan, and I haven't seen the Redskins play yet this year.

The Cowboys are going to come after Rex. Hard. The defensive front has been showing improvement each week, and we actually have one of our starting corners back. They are aware the Redskins defense is going to try to knock Romo out of the game, and the Cowboys mantra all week has been it's the defense that will have to keep them in the game.

It might not make much of a difference, but don't be surprised if Rex melts under the heat and reverts to his old self.

I doubt a total meltdown. But very few QBs will face sell out pressure without any mistakes. Ware is a scary guy. Dallas' D at home is nothing to sneeze at.Question is will Rex make the Cowboys pay more than he gives. I think he will make more good throws than bad and if Dallas sells out trying to pressure him, I think the Skins win the game.
