Amani Toomer - Top 5 WR so far... rest of the way? (1 Viewer)

Toomer is the #4 scoring WR in standard formats so far. He is fourth in receptions with 20. He is tied with the touchdown lead with 3.

Where do we see him the rest of the way? Well, the Giants' defense is weaker than it was expected to be, so they are throwing more. Plaxico, while explosive, is a bit injured and has drawn the ire of Coughlin for his repeated turnovers, leading to his benching for much of the Seahawks game. Shockey is a bit dinged up, too. Still, Toomer has almost twice as many receptions as Plaxico. Sinorice Moss is perhaps shut down for the season. So, is he top 15 from here on out as the Giants posession receiver?

I say yes.

Not sure if he finishes top 15 but you could do worse for a #3 WR IMO - great for spot starts. You never know though - there are always a few shockers in the top 10 WRs at the end of the year - why not Toomer? Giants O will give him the opportunities.

I have Owens Boldin D-Jax Galloway Kennison and Toomer in a dynasty. Start 4. Im playing Toomer over a few of them...

I think he will be a weak WR2 or Good WR3. In a dynasty league where I needed RB help I just traded away Drew Bennett for Joseph Addai.

I am now starting Boldin-TO-Toomer with Williamson as my top backup. I feel Toomer will do fine at WR3.

I don't think I would start Toomer over my top 3 WR, TO/Driver/TJ Hous. He makes a decent WR2 for most teams. He could finish top 15 just because he is off to a good start.

Sell high.

Eagles collapsed and gave him that 12 for 12 catch game.

He will still perform, but not at WR#1 status - that's crazy.

He's a viable starter - but come now. He is at a local high, possibly an all time high.

Trade him.

Toomer = top notch WR3 from here on out.

That's pretty darn good considering that you drafted him very late or picked him off the waiver wire.

If the Giants keep getting behind by 3+ scores and mount incredible comebacks every week, then Toomer should be considered a Top 2 WR (why stop at Top 5). However, I expect that these last two weeks are an aberration and not a trend. Toomer has a good chance at Top 25-30 status, and could climb higher (from this point forward), but I think Toomer is on the other end of the Chad Johnson situation. His value will never be higher this season.

I've watched all three Giants games this year, and I don't see a whole lot of indication that they will (1) improve on defense enough to stop giving up significant numbers of points in the first half and (2) get worse on offense so that they are not capable of putting up passing yards/touchdowns once the other team shifts into prevent defense. Unless these two things happen, the Giants' passing offense will probably look a lot like what we've seen so far. Lots of statistics late, with Toomer getting at least half of them.

You may be right. I think the Giants defense almost has to be better than they've shown. And I'll go out on a limb and suggest they won't be down 35-0 and 42-3 more than once or twice the rest of the season.

Everyone who is saying they see Toomer as a Wr 3 I am interested in what 24 Wrs you have ranked ahead of him?

Assuming 12 team league.

He looks like a solid Wr 2 to me moving forward. Possibly borderline Wr 1 but I doubt that.

In this last game Toomer only got 4 targets. He caught 3 of them one for a TD. Compared to 7 and 12 targets from the previous 2 games.

Based on this Toomer looks like a better option to me as the Wr 2 behind Plax than as the Wr 1 without him. He may have recieved extra attention from Dbs after Plax was benched, the score so out of reach resulting in Seattle defending the pass every down. Eli went away from him then.

Under normal conditions though with Plax as the main threat to opposing defenses and the Giants threatening also with the run I see plenty of targets coming Toomers way.

Toomer has a 85% catch percentage and is leading all Giants recivers with 27 targets after 3 games.

The Giants have averaged 553 pass attempts over the past 5 years. I do not see that about to change. And with the way they are playing so far they may end up with higher than thier average this year. So there will be plenty of chances for Toomer to make a lot of plays.

I think Shockey will become more a part of the offense. I did not see this last game, but in game 2 his ankle definitely limited him. I think Toomer is at a high right now. If you can trade him, do it.

very :goodposting: I touted drafting Toomer, all offseason, with an ADP of WR50ish instead of Plax at WR12ish, just based on value alone. Eli seems to look for Toomer when he needs a play, or in end zone. I expect Toomer to end the season in the 65 catch, 800+yds, and 8-10 TDs. With all of the WR disappointments this year, Toomer has to be bailing some people out. They draft him as WR4 and now start him at WR2 over some bigger name WRs.

Yeah Wannabee thats what I am seeing here. Is that a lot of people were very down on Toomer the past few years. Myself included. I am astounded with his catch percentage so far when Toomer over his career previous to last year was barely above 50%.

It obvious that people do not think highly of him based on this ADP.

However now after 3 games played I think its time to start looking at player situations fresh and for what they are right now instead of clinging to former notions about them.

I am not saying Toomer is likely to be a top 10 Wr EOY. But I don't see anything outside of a injury causing him to finish outside of 24.

As to Shockeys impact on Toomers opportunity,

Here are the targets for Giants players that matter:

Toomer, Amani (WR) (NYG) 27 23 85% 233 4

Barber, Tiki (RB) (NYG) 22 17 77% 141 0

Burress, Plaxico (WR) (NYG) 21 13 62% 239 3

Shockey, Jeremy (TE) (NYG) 19 14 74% 162 1

Carter, Tim (WR) (NYG) 19 7 37% 93 1

Jennings, Michael (WR) (NYG) 9 9 100% 89

Shiancoe, Visanthe (TE) (NYG) 8 6 75% 45 0

Jacobs, Brandon (RB) (NYG) 7 4 57% 22 0

Tyree, David (WR) (NYG) 6 5 83% 72

Shockey has 16% of Eli's total targets thus far. Mainly because he missed some time being injured. He has a tendency to miss at least some time because of this over his career thus far. But I don't think Shockeys play will automaticly take targets away from Toomer. When it seems that there have been an awful lot of targets spread around to many recievers so far. I think this is because of

1. Plax being benched.

2. Giants using more spread formations playing from behind.

3. Shckey missing some time.

I expect the offense to settle down more moving forward with thier big 3 getting most of the looks. So I don't see Shockey having an impact on Toomers targets. Only these other Wrs will if they get playing time over the big 3.

Some people were/are looking at Toomer as passing option 4 behind Plax, Shockey and Barber. But that does not appear to be the case. To me it looks like a pretty even distribution to those main 4 rather than a heirarchy. Which player does well each game has more to do with matchup and how the defense plays them I think. For the most part I expect defenses when picking thier poision to pick Toomer as the player to be less concerned about.

Those of you with Toomer should feel good about him being on your roster, but to expect him to continue at his current pace is simply unrealistic. Unless of course you expect the Giants to give up 491 points this season, Eli to pass for 43 TDs, and the Giants to get a total of 5 rushing TDs this season.

Of course, he can back off of his pace and still end up being a highly productive receiver. He almost certainly will outperform his ADP, but it's possible and maybe likely that he won't catch more than 4-5 TDs the rest of the season. I guess we'll see.

:goodposting: He and Manning have a rapport - he'll be a solid WR3, especially in PPR leagues. Shockey goes down or sits in Coughlin's doghouse? WR2.
