Amazon Prime Day Deals (4 Viewers)

Dentist keeps bugging me about getting a waterpik to floss, saw a lightning deal for one and grabbed it. Maybe if I use it, it will get them off my back on my next cleaning visit...

the Oura ring gen 4.
What's the deal with these? I'm not liking wearing an iWatch AND a regular watch (which I'll always wear), or going back and forth, or the battery charging. So I've been thinking about one of these rings instead.

Is this the latest one and how much savings we talking?
I don't like wearing watches. I have a Fitbit watch that I never wear. I tried the original Oura ring when it came out and was not impressed with its step tracking ability and returned it. The latest ones have all sorts of monitoring capabilities. I don't even really like wearing rings but am thinking I'll give it a try again. Something to help motivate me in getting serious about improving my health. The galaxy ring is also an option. I guess with Oura you also have to pay a $6 or $7 monthly fee to get all the tracking capabilities. Looks like they are typically $350 but on sale for $300 so not a huge discount.
I went ahead and got it.

Now I need to sell my iWatch. It's the latest one with the bigger screen and a matte black, magnetic band. Zero damage, minimal wear.
I just ordered the Oura 4 in brushed silver color so it was a little more.

For us streamers they have a bunch of 2 month subscriptions for 99 cents but the apple+ is only 50% off.
Which services do they have 99 cent subscriptions? I couldn't find anything with a search of their site.
When I get onto my fire tv and I scroll down to Prime Member Deals it's there

now on my desktop, I can go to the prime video tab and then go over to the subscriptions tab
Thanks for this. Was having trouble getting the deal on the desktop, but figured it out last night on my Fire TV. I had to go to my subscriptions and press cancel for my Paramount+ since I was a current subscriber and it then offered a bunch of options including one to continue for .99 per month for the next couple months. Unfortunately, all our other subscriptions are through bundles on Verizon, but I'll take what I can get.
Even better on this, go directly to Paramount Plus.com and you can get their "premium commercial free" service for $0.99/mo for 2 months (vs. The "essential with commercials" offering through prime video $0.99/mo for 2 months)

Funny, I kinda did the same thing (payed a little more for color), got the stealth one, which is pretty much the same as yours. The silver was cheaper than ours but way too bright, imo. And the expensive ones are hideous, imo, gold and rose???

Wore it tonight and already can tell, so much better than wearing a(nother) watch. Glad I did it, this will do more than enough for me, thanks for the heads up.

BTW, just checked and the Oura 5 isn't set to come out until late '27? Perfect. Hate buying stuff that gets upgraded months later.

I actually ordered the Stealth and then changed my mind and cancelled and ordered the brushed silver. I liked the look of the Stealth better but then saw how the previous version of the Stealth showed scratches on it over time which I know would bother me. Also saw a video that showed how the Stealth finish is actually kind of abrasive and could possibly do things like scratch your cell phone screen. I'm not too concerned about that second one.

Amazon has the non-commercial version for $0.99 too, you can choose either version. Same for the other channels they are offering.

Probably still recommend going direct with Paramount+ though, when you go to cancel they will often offer you a free month or discounted multiple months. Can decide if you want to keep or cancel then.

Good time for P+, Strange New Worlds season 3 starts up next week!

Here are a bunch of mood rings all much cheaper than the rings you're looking at. Not sure about counting steps but they will show what mood you are in

I imagine most do that, I went to cancel my peacock and they offered me 6 months for 1.99

Re: smart rings
If you're like me and don't want be stuck with a subscription on top of the price of the ring. You might want to consider RingConn. It does offer a good group of features at a decent price. I've been using it for a couple years now and it's worked out well.

Purchased new camera doorbell, replacement AirPod Pros, some socks, a European Carryall, and a soccer ball.

I guess there doing this a few times a year now. Next up: Oct 7-8
So I thought I'd run a little experiment to see if there are actually any deals. I've got 6 items in the shopping cart and I've noted the current price for each. No guarantee that any of these will be "deals", but I do want to see if the price changes

It's becoming so commercialized now that we're starting to lose the true meaning of Prime Day.

Exactly. To kupcho's point, I notice a lot of their Prime Deal prices are often lower at other times during the year. Something will be on sale for $25 pre Prime day (regular price 40) and then on Prime Day they'll jack it up to 40 and say the Prime Day discount is $28. Stuff like that pisses me off. Sure you think you're getting a good deal if you never check Amazon but if you're a cart hawk you laugh at the absurdity with these Prime Day "deals".

Price grab some of the amazon products (fire sticks, echo dots, etc). Can't recall a 'deals' day that didn't have those in it. That and things like Ring cameras/doorbells

It has really lost me over the years. Keep 'me' in Prime Day.

Exactly. Might as well call it Prius Day at this point.

Didn't some retailers get in trouble for something like this a few years back? Marking something "on sale" when it was their normal price, and other shenanigans? I guess my point is it should be just as illegal for Amazon to do stuff like that, and easier to prove. Right?

Why would raising and lowering prices be illegal? Or stating that something is "on sale" (which, technically it is, in any case since they're selling it)?
Hell, there are stores that have been running years-long going out of business sales.

Here's what Gemini says:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prohibits businesses from misrepresenting sale prices by ensuring the "regular price" is a genuine, previously offered price that was available for a reasonably substantial period. Selling a product at a stated "sale" price that is actually its regular price, or setting inflated original prices to make discounts seem larger, is a deceptive practice that can result in significant monetary penalties and legal action. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing
  • Actual, Bona Fide Price: The former price used for comparison must be the real price at which the item was sold to the public. [1]
  • Regular Basis: The item must have been offered to the public on a regular basis at this price. [1]
  • Reasonably Substantial Period: The former price must have been in effect for a reasonably substantial amount of time. [1]
  • No Inflated Prices: Businesses cannot invent higher "regular" or "list" prices to make a discount appear more significant than it is. [3, 4]
Penalties for Deceptive Pricing
  • Civil Penalties: Companies that violate these rules can face civil penalties. [6, 7]
  • Enforcement Actions: The Federal Trade Commission (.gov) can investigate and take action against companies engaging in deceptive pricing. [1, 8, 9]
  • Consumer Class Action Lawsuits: Consumers can also file class action lawsuits seeking damages for deceptive sale pricing. [3]

FCC doesn't really apply hear does it? Not when Amazon prices change regularly. There is no set price so who's to say its on sale or not?

All you cannot is know, or remember, what the normal price is. Usually the deals are on Amazon brand products with maybe a few others tossed in.

Agree, several items we were watching were on sale for less than the "Prime Day" sale price.

I assume that Amazon has better capabilities for what I'll call surge pricing than B&M retailers. FTC rules certainly would apply to them but whether/to what extent they are trackable and enforceable is anybody's guess. I assume Amazon will do whatever they want until someone keeps close enough track to rein them in (probably via some class action), and then they'll have to tighten up. But certainly there are sites that track Amazon prices today (I think Camel Camel Camel is one?), so the data should be easy to get. Who knows how Amazon's pricing algorithms work though. I would think if they are exposed at all it would be on Amazon branded products vs. sell through products where third parties are setting the prices.

The results are in. I put 7 items in the cart on 10/1. Here's where prices ended up for "prime" days 10/7-8
  • the price of 4 items was unchanged
  • one item was discounted 14.5%! Sounds great, but it was reduced by $1
  • the price of one item was increased by 1.6%
  • Amazon raised the price of the 7th item by 31.6% so that they could highlight it as a deal by dropping the price. Unfortunately, the price they dropped it to was 5.3% higher than on 10/1
Grand total increased by 0.1% on prime day

:sadbanana:

Verdict: not worth it. I'm beginning to believe this might be a marketing ploy. :D

No need to go through all this work.

Go to https://camelcamelcamel.com/

Copy the web address of any product you are looking at on Amazon and paste it in the search bar of CCC and it will show you the price changes for the period of time you choose.
Thanks shuke! Will check it out. I always use Slickdeals and often the price tracker is imbedded within but not always. Only work for Amazon or does it track by vendors website prices.

I'm a little wary of using these tools given the Honey fraud debacle. I'll check it out and see if it's legit.

Seems Walgreens jacks the prices up on their supplements when they have their periodic 50% off sale.
