Amazon Prime Video "Watch Instantly" Gems: FBG's Recommend (1 Viewer)

Bosch seems to have great reviews - Anyone where here watch?
Yes, there’s been some slander of the show in here, but it’s a very good, B+ level cop/crime show.
I'm in the opposite camp- think it's in the why-bother category with poor writing, story and silly cliche characters. I watched the entire 1st season after the support it got in here... waiting for something worthwhile. got an episode or two into S2 before realizing that wasn't going to happen and it just wasn't for me.

it was just dreadful, imo.

The Patriot is a good, quirky and funny spy thing/musical.

Eta... Man in the High Castle was imperfect, but a fun watch an an Grand epic way.

Fleabag and catastrophe are both fantastically well written, acted and funny shows about family and relationships.

All original shows on prime
Big thumbs up on the bolded. Breezing through Catastrophe now.

I can’t stop thinking about Fleabag. Honestly one of the best written things I’ve ever seen. That ending was crushing.

when she told the priest “I ####### love you” and then laughed it off because she was uncomfortable saying it then paused and said “I really love you”....man that hit me. Impeccable writing.[\spoiler]

I've been a huge Catastrophe fan from the beginning, but the last season was just kind of "meh."  Had some great moments, but felt a little bit all over the place and wasn't quite as funny as prior seasons.

LOVE this show. Brilliant.

If you like Deadpool but wish it was a lot darker and went even further, this is for you.

Tons of spoiler free reviews on YouTube if you want to know more.  I've tried six times to describe it without spoiling it and failed each time.

I was just about to post the same thing.

Reminds me a bit of The Watchmen

Such a great series, bummer it’s only 6 episodes

we've been talking about it in the "Netflix" thread... which has turned into kind of a catch-all TV thread.

hasn't really been a discussion though- mostly all saying the same thing... that's it's good.

anyone here watch The Expanse? Has good reviews and I am a sucker for pretty much anything sci-fi.

A police detective in the asteroid belt, the first officer of an interplanetary ice freighter and an earth-bound United Nations executive slowly discover a vast conspiracy that threatens the Earth's rebellious colony on the asteroid belt.

Only 1 season so far but season 2 starting in a couple weeks.
I watched one episode- didn't grab me, but didn't suck either. not sure why we didn't keep going with it...
I finally did keep going with it recently... my initial take was not spot on. really compelling series- highly recommend.

About half-way through Carnival Row and it's fantastic.  Incredible and deep world they've created.
We watched the whole thing... Mentioned it in the Netflix thread. This one was a just miss for me, but can't quite place why. The fantasy aspect works, the mystery works...but something didn't elevate for me.

I'm a little worried the ending will be a let down....don't tell me if it is.

Fwiw, I don't think there was any decline in quality- it was consistent and ended as well as it had been going through Midway; if you're loving it so far, I think you'll continue to do so. It just didn't grab me from the beginning, and it kept me at arm's length throughout.

Gave up on Vikings before the end of the first season. Didn't do a thing for us.
To each their own of course, but I loved Vikings. Watched all 5 seasons over the last year or so, always looked forward to having the time to catch 3-4 episodes in a row. Thought it was fascinating and liked a bunch of the characters a lot.

I think "The Last Kingdom" is better.

Both good takes.  I made a comment in one of these topics that I don't think this one needs or should have a season 2.  I know that's pretty rare, but I loved the show, loved the way it ended, and don't think I'd watch a season 2 if they made one.

Started watching this about two weeks ago. Just finished season 4 this weekend.  I'm really enjoying it.
Actually, with the drama of protests at the police station and the talk of outside instigators, pretty timely to watch.
I just binged all 6 seasons in a little over a week.  (Don't have Prime, but signed up for a 30-day trial that was about to run out)

I've read most of the books, so it was interesting to see how they mapped over - sometimes combining plot threads from a couple of books into a season. Not directly, either, more "inspired by" with changes of characters/locations.

My wife has read the books and said pretty much the same thing.  She's the one that insisted we watch it, and I got hooked.  We hope to start season 5 tonight.

I did the same (finished it in about 2 weeks).  I really enjoyed the show.  I just now went through this entire thread and it got a bad rap by most of the people early on in here.  I am glad I didn't see this thread sooner because I thought it was a fun watch.

Wife and I finished Poldark over the weekend.  Really enjoyed it.

Patriot is up next, after we finish Hollywood on Netflix.

Interesting to hear about Bosch again.  I tried it a long time ago but just kinda quit on it.  May circle back.  I've read some of the books but not all that many.

I'm one of the Bosch detractors... thought it was cliched, poorly acted/cast and really poorly written. but it's a police procedural, and it's far from the worst thing out there. so no harm to give it another go. (I watched a full season feeling pretty meh- but had heard good things in here, so plugged along. started to watch S2 and realized I thought it wasn't good enough to bother)

Patriot, otoh, I think is a lot of fun and very worth the watch (but it's not for everybody either- pretty dry/absurd idiosyncratic humor that I like)

I really liked the way they weaved two or three story lines into each season and usually had some sort of connection between each line at some point.  I liked the pace and the characters although I did start out wondering about the acting.  By the time I got into it I circled back and liked the acting as I got to know the characters better.   As far as the pace, it wasn't constantly in your face so you had time to digest what was going on and try and figure out where it was going as you were watching.  I liked that aspect.

I knew nothing about it going in (I didn't even know it was based on a series of books) so I had no expectations.  That might be why I liked it so much.

Finished up Hanna Season 2 last night. I have not seen the movie which I saw some referencing, and I enjoyed both seasons.  Would be on board for another season.

Thinking I might start Bosch next.

Can't say enough great things. Karl Urban is phenomenal, and for a show theme that could so easily be derivative and trope-y, it is decidedly not. I mean, it does cover a similar theme as The Watchmen ("Who watches the Watchmen?) but is really well done with some solid acting all around.

I enjoyed Hunters -- was great to see Pacino in a role that wasn't just Pacino playing his typical old "hoo-haw" self, and really dug the characters (specifically Saul Rubinek, Carol Kane, Kate Mulvany, and Josh Radnor) and plot. Even the campy "breaking the wall" type moments when the show made a statement about Operation Paperclip were interesting.

Maybe it's because I'm Jewish and the story resonated, despite the depictions of the Holocaust experience being more caricature than based on reality. My issue with it is that it really built well and became almost phenomenenal through the 7th episode, but had a real Game of Thrones-type plummet off a cliff into ridiculousness for the final two episodes and the way the season wrapped up.

But those first 7 episodes were really good.

Yeah not big on Bosch either.  I thought it could have hav3 been a lot better with an unknown cast.

Started Goliath and I don't get the love for it.  It is interesting but has a few really bizarre characters as it went on and the stories just seemed to drag on and then abruptly.  I liked Bosch a lot better.  I am still in season 3 for Goliath and this is getting even weirder.  About half way through and will probably finish the season but I wasn't a big fan overall.  I think it could have been much better but the stories and the outlandishness was a bit much.

Season 3 of Goliath is way to out there for me.  It is so disjointed and drug laden it's hard to follow or know what the hell is going on.  It also has some weird Get Out vibe to it also with the Brother/Sister/Step Son situation.  Very bizarre and I am only through episode 4
