Good point. I can't see myself watching this again even if I stumble across it on HBO or whatever in a few months.I was underwhelmed. Cooper was good, but a pretty forgettable movie overall.
Can you unpack this? I haven't seen the movie but know the story, trying to understand what you mean.Watching this now. This whole enemy sniper storyline is ####in stupid and cheesy.
They basically made a side story out of a rivalry/showdown with a legendary Iraqi sniper. Can you unpack this? I haven't seen the movie but know the story, trying to understand what you mean.Watching this now. This whole enemy sniper storyline is ####in stupid and cheesy.
Hollywood does that. The insurgents had some good snipers, but nothing like Vietnam. They basically made a side story out of a rivalry/showdown with a legendary Iraqi sniper. Can you unpack this? Again? How many times have you seen it?Just saw it again. Great ####in movie
As many times as it takes, guy.Again? How many times have you seen it?Just saw it again. Great ####in movie
The ending was a worse in terms of cheese IMO. They jammed in all this cheap, contrived drama into a final climatic scene. Didn't need to do that. They basically made a side story out of a rivalry/showdown with a legendary Iraqi sniper. Can you unpack this? You have reached your quota of positive votes for the dayOh yes you are, Sailor.I'm not your guy, friend![]()

yeah I dont mind Hollywood making movies more exciting than real life. It is a movie after all. But the whole sniper thing seemed so cheap and cheesy and out of place in this movie and Id have a hard time calling this a Best Picture with those scenes in the movie. think the movie Assassins only Bradley Cooper was Sly Stallone and some Iraqi guy (Mustafa) was Antonio Banderas.Hollywood does that. The insurgents had some good snipers, but nothing like Vietnam. They were a joke in Afghanistan, couldn't hit ####. Barely a distraction. The Taliban are really bad at math (lots of calculus involved in being an effective sniper). They basically made a side story out of a rivalry/showdown with a legendary Iraqi sniper. Can you unpack this? I haven't seen the movie but know the story, trying to understand what you mean.Watching this now. This whole enemy sniper storyline is ####in stupid and cheesy.
Yes the ending of the movie. Going off my memory from reading the book all those things that happened in the final scene of movie were either exaggerated or moved around the timeline to build up to a hollywood dramatic scene. The guy with the drill scene, again lazy writing used to create extra emotion and drama.I think he meant the final fight scene. It actually happened, not contrivedThe ending was a worse in terms of cheese IMO. Thank God you're here.Just got around to reading this thread... I want to thank cstu for debunking the myth that Vietnam veterans weren't spat on. Oh and the Chris Kyle comparison to a Nazi soldier in WWII was insightful as well.
The irony of this is that Chris Kyle and Vietnam veterans fought and died for his right to spew such nonsense.
I haven't followed the trial very closely, but boy that verdict just doesn't sit well. If there was ever a case of insanity this would have seemed to have been it. This guy should be getting help, not locked up for life. I wonder what Chris Kyle would have thought about the verdict...
I'm pretty positive Vietnam vets fighting in that war didn't protect our freedom of speech in doing so.The irony of this is that Chris Kyle and Vietnam veterans fought and died for his right to spew such nonsense.
Every single vet that fought in your lifetime did so so you wouldn't have to by being drafted/conscripted.I'm pretty positive Vietnam vets fighting in that war didn't protect our freedom of speech in doing so.The irony of this is that Chris Kyle and Vietnam veterans fought and died for his right to spew such nonsense.
I'm very aware of that. That has nothing to do with either his or my statement.Every single vet that fought in your lifetime did so so you wouldn't have to by being drafted/conscripted.I'm pretty positive Vietnam vets fighting in that war didn't protect our freedom of speech in doing so.The irony of this is that Chris Kyle and Vietnam veterans fought and died for his right to spew such nonsense.
I'm pretty positive you're wrong. The primary objective was to stop the spread of Soviet style Communism which was very much anti- freedom of speech. The Domino theory proved later on to be a load of crap, but the intention of that war when it was fought was very much to protect freedom throughout the world, with the thought being that if the balance of power shifted too heavily towards the Soviets eventually it would prove to be a direct threat to our shores. It's easy to criticize that paranoid thinking in 2015, but I can assure you at the time the threat was very real. The spread of Communism into Cuba came very close to causing World War III.I'm pretty positive Vietnam vets fighting in that war didn't protect our freedom of speech in doing so.The irony of this is that Chris Kyle and Vietnam veterans fought and died for his right to spew such nonsense.
Sorry... I think you are wrong here... Kennedy sent special forces into Vietnam because he was trying to steal their oil and they had put a hit out on his dad making him angry....I'm pretty positive you're wrong. It's true, regardless of what you think of the wars themselves our soldiers have been (among other things, like their families and their lives and survival) fighting for us, the US and our way of life, which is inherently about freedom, including the freedom of speech. They sacrifice everything.oy vey^I'm pretty positive you're wrong. The primary objective was to stop the spread of Soviet style Communism which was very much anti- freedom of speech. And I think we have to separate these guys from the policies that put them there. I don't think the guys that fought in Iraq or Vietnam or Afghanistan were any different from the guys who fought in WW2 or WW1 or the Civil War or any of the other myriad wars our guys have sadly been put into. We may change from generation to generation but basically our soldiers are good people. The whole thing's tragic, it always is.You think our soldiers were fighting for our freedoms and way of life in Iraq? It's true, regardless of what you think of the wars themselves our soldiers have been (among other things, like their families and their lives and survival) fighting for us, the US and our way of life, which is inherently about freedom, including the freedom of speech. And the fact that they sacrifice everything has no bearing on whether they are fighting for our freedoms. Those are two separate things and shouldnt be connected in a effort to blur lines.
I think there are some who really view the U.S. as similar to Nazis. Kind of disturbing but very telling at the same time.Wtf is going on in here? Are we really at the point where we can't all at least agree to honor vets?

Very disturbing. It's shocking how radicalized the Left has become the last few years. 1/20/17 can't come soon enough.I think there are some who really view the U.S. as similar to Nazis. What does my sister turning 40 have to do with radicalism?Very disturbing. You seem to be of the belief that American soldiers have not been equated to Nazis on this thread. Perhaps you should go back a couple of pages.Oh their radicalized alright. I mean, they're going so far as to not agree with people who are wrong on the internet. It's Mario at Berkeley all over again.
Not sure who you are talking to, but It would help if you spoke in normal language. I have no idea what you are saying. While it's good to see the brain trust is on the case, you should know that just saying whatever you want in your comical efforts to be super deluxe troopsier than thou, doesn't make those things true. And if somebody acknowledges that, it has nothing remotely to do with that person's respect for those who serve in the military.
