@joshweinfuss: Stepfan Taylor got secdon-half start and first two carries. Andre Ellington just walking back onto field now.
Andre Ellington rushed 24 times for 88 yards and caught six balls for 72 yards in the Cardinals' Week 7 win over the Raiders.
After struggling a bit in the first half -- 10-34 on the ground -- Ellington was late coming out of the tunnel for the third quarter, reportedly nursing a rib injury. Stepfan Taylor started the second half and ran well before Ellington reentered to drop a critical third-down pass. Ellington retook his featured role for most of the final two quarters, putting Arizona's offense on his back on a highly productive third-quarter drive. Unfortunately, he was vultured by Taylor twice inside the Oakland five-yard line, as Taylor scored a two-yard rushing TD in addition to a four-yard receiving score on a speed out. Ellington missed snaps on the Cardinals' clock-killing possession late in the fourth quarter with cramping, but did return. He'll be a borderline RB1 when the Cardinals take on the Eagles in Week 8.

Selfless *******.OAKLAND, Calif. -- The way this season has gone for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Bruce Arians didnt think Andre Ellington was coming back out of that locker room. Ellington went in early, with a few seconds left in the second quarter to get his bruised ribs examined. It was going to be, in Arians' mind, another injury to add to the Cardinals weekly list report that seemingly grows by the day.Andre Ellington revives Cardinals' running game:

Ellington didnt quell Arians concerns when the Cardinals returned to the field for the second half kickoff without him. By then, Arians was rewriting the game plan for Stepfan Taylor andRobert Hughes to carry Ellingtons load in the second half. But several minutes into the third quarter, Ellington jogged back on to the field, around the Raiderettes, around the end zone, and stood next to Arians.
Then he tapped me on the back and said he was ready to go, Arians said. I said, Oh good. Im glad you made it.
Ellington was responsible for 76 of the 80 yards on Arizonas next drive -- 40 on the ground, 16 in the air and 20 through a defensive pass interference he drew. After doing all that work, he subbed himself out after getting winded and let Taylor get the glory. Taylor, who had 40 yards on 12 carries -- twice as many as his season total before Oakland -- scored on a four-yard touchdown run, his second score of the game.
He earned it during the week, Ellington said. When Im sitting resting, hes out there working. My idea was just to get some fresh legs out there and we got the touchdown.
Good think Arians is mean. Except somehow I'm sure in those short yardage situations he'll lean towards Taylor, much like Mendenhall last year.Stop being so nice Andre!
That's probably what his agent told him today too.Stop being so nice Andre!
Andre Ellington has been diagnosed with sore ribs, and avoided structural damage.
Ellington briefly departed Sunday's win over the Raiders, but played through the injury, and will continue to do so going forward. Ellington will receive little, if any, practice time this week, but will be good to go as a borderline RB1 against the Eagles.

This is what I never understood, money is directly tied to the stat line. Players should care more when they take themselves out of the game.GroveDiesel said:That's probably what his agent told him today too.Stop being so nice Andre!
That's overthinking it too much. The guy is getting a lot of touches, except maybe at the stripe. What are people doing with him this week?
Philly is tough vs the run rt?
Yeah, the injury must be ridiculously painful. This article worried me at the end
On the other hand, he did practice on a limited basis yesterday whereas he has been DNP every Wednesday up until then. So maybe it's getting better.Yeah, the injury must be ridiculously painful. This article worried me at the end
After their week 4 bye, he put in limited practices on each Wednesday of week 5 and 6 before not practicing on Wednesday of last week. It's definitely a good sign that he put in a limited practice this week but this isn't the type of injury that's going to get legitimately better for as long as he's in season. The only cure is long term immobilization and he's a professional running back haha.On the other hand, he did practice on a limited basis yesterday whereas he has been DNP every Wednesday up until then. Andre Ellington admitted that his foot is "probably not going to feel good until January or February or whenever the season is over with."
The partial tendon tear in his foot is something that Ellington has learned to play with. Perhaps it's partially to blame for his disappointing 3.74 YPC one year after exploding for 5.52 YPC. But just because Ellington's foot is not 100 percent doesn't mean he can't sustain durability and volume, as evidenced by his 21.6 touches/game through six weeks. He'll be a borderline RB1 against the Eagles Sunday.

Yeah. Philly's only average-ish against the run, giving up 4.1 YPC, and they haven't exactly faced a murderer's row of running backs. You'd need a lot of better options in hand to bench Ellington, giving that he hasn't gone below 75 YFS in any game this year and has been a huge factor in the receiving game recently.zamboni said:That's overthinking it too much. Unless they sign or draft a better complementary piece than Taylor, that is. Always a possibility if Arians would prefer to limit the wear and tear on him. It's such a shame that he hurt himself before the season and it won't heal until the offseason. He was setup to have a monster season. He's still an Rb1 but he could've been top 5. He'll probably be a top 5-6 pick next year.
what's the alternative? Taylor?Big positive yesterday that Ellington wasn't pulled at the goal line (even before Taylor left via injury) and is getting a bunch of touches with little RBBC. And that the team is winning.
While it may be lingering foot issues, I still have some concern about his very poor YPC. Or rather, I have concern that Arians has some concern about it.
Yup - fortunately there is no alternative or his touches would be shared. Just enjoying the ride while it lasts, what's the alternative? I think they care about winning games and they are at the top of the league with him being a workhorse.
