Android apps (1 Viewer)

not sure if this has been asked as i am too lazy to go through the whole thread, but is there an app that will take a screen shot picture on your android phone?
yes, but in all likelihood, you have to be rooted. I had been using ShootMe with success on an unrooted phone prior to upgrading to gingerbread. Does not work for me anymore.

Any suggestions on a good music player? I have been using WikiTune, but it has started locking up my phone.

I am not happy with the stock Corporate Sync app that came with my Droid X. Sometimes I get emails instantly, sometimes I get them days later. After some research it seems this is a common problem with this app.

Can anyone recommend another Outlook email client where I'll always get these emails immediately? I know both K9 mail and Touchdown are options, but I'd like some FFA guidance.

Touchdown rocks for me, sometimes I get the email on my phone before it arrives in my Outlook on the laptop. Dunno much about K9.

Is there a good podcast app for Android? I tried this several months back and everything sucked. You need to subscribe to RSS feeds and they were real problematic. Most of the podcasts I subscribe to are ESPN Radio shows.

I really want to get this up and running... My car stereo has no AUX port so I've been wearing headphones every day. If I can get podcasts going on my phone I can use bluetooth to send it through the speakers. Don't want to use FM transmitter - blows fuses even if I used 20A.

I use BeyondPod and it works pretty well. Dogcatcher is the other that gets good reviews. I listen to Podcasts in my car over Bluetooth. I had to buy an after market head unit with the appropriate technology to stream music and voice via Bluetooth. I LOVE it, as I no longer have to listen to commercials and bad sports radio.

Downloaded pocket cast for free off of Amazon and really like it.Needs a couple tweaks but I like it better than Google Listen. You still need to subscribe to RSS or search for it. I have 4 espn ones that I just subscribe too that way.

Just downloaded BeyondPod and same crap.. Subscribed to a few ESPN Radio feeds and when I try to stream they all say "playback error"

Oh google listen is the only one I know that you can stream.Pocket Cast has to download it first before you can play it.

Maybe I'm spoiled by iTunes. Just want an app where I can pick all my feeds and have it update automatically every day. With iTunes I plug in and sync my iPod, but with the phone you'd think it would be even better and more automated since it's always connected. Nothing seems to work quite that way. I have to go in and download manually, the feeds don't work all the time, etc...

hmm. I have had that problem with Listen. So far with the new one I'm trying they are all downlaoding on their own. The only problem I hit is if it recognizes a new podcast when I'm on 3g it will not download it when I get onto wi-fi. I have it set to only downlaod on wi-fi. So far that's the only issue I have. I'm sure there are more as I have not gone "deep" with it. I imported all my feed from Listen. You can download from 3g if need be.

So has anyone hear used Tasker and all of it's awesomeness? I'm ready to plunk down the $6, but I want some super duper cheatsheet to give me all sorts of tips and stuff. I don't really have the time to invest in it by myself.

No love for Hacksaw and darren smith?

Just saw that The Economist finally released an Android app for anybody with a subscription. Haven't tried it out yet.

So I'm getting a replacement Thunderbolt tomorrow. I downloaded MyBackupPro and backed everything up to my sim card. Will it be as easy as putting my old sim card in the new phone?

Not rooted.

thx

Probably not, but I am not so sure how that backup app works... it should make it a lot easier though. Does it save your apps, or will you have to get them from the market? What about your settings does it back them up?Also, did you sync all of your contacts with google? That will make things easier if the back up app does not do that.

Yeah, I did the things you mention and it looks like the app takes care of most of the rest. Hopefully all I have to do is arrange my screens. For $5, It's looking like MyBackupPro is a good app. From here, I'll probably start doing regular backups to their servers for safety.

Anyone know how to solve this problem in the calendar app?

When i enter a calendar item in google calendar on the web, it syncs with my android device and shows up on the calendar app on the device....however the reminder never pops up. The only time a reminder pops up on the device is when I actually entered teh event on the device.

Very frustrating

Most likely some setting in Notifications on your phone that you have turned off.

MyBackupPro worked perfectly. Everything is exactly as it was on the new phone except for the photo I used as wallpaper. I also had to go through each app to install them but MybackupPro went through them one by one and I only had to hit Install for each. Great little app...highly recommend.

Been using handcent for awhile now with no issues, however lately I'm having an issue with all MMS messages that I receive from iphone users...I have to hit a "download" button to download them, which is really annoying...and some of the time they don't download, so I can't see the message at all. This is becoming a huge issue for work and personal life.

Also, I understand on iphone you can see when someone has sent the text to multiple people, but handcent doesen't give you that capability.

Are there any android apps out there that will eliminate these problems for me?

:thanks:

Very new Android user (Motorola Atrix 2) and have a few questions:

Are there are any calendar apps that sync with an exchange server that are better than the stock calendar?

Any favorite "contacts" apps?

Favorite calorie tracker? I used to use LoseIt on my iPod touch but noticed how large it was compared to other apps (because the food database is built-in), so I downloaded MyFitnessPal last night. Seems okay but haven't messed with it much.

For you lawyers or accountants...any good apps that would allow me to input time into an app and then export for entry into my timekeeping system (Juris)?

Using Google Voice for texting which is working out really well since it's free.

Is there an app or a way to download the list of apps that you have or to otherwise track them? I've heard about people having to do a factory re-boot and having all of their apps wiped out and if I ever have to do that I'd like to know what to re-load.

I tried Handcent, then moved on to GoSmsPro (Free in the market, I also replaced stock Dialer with GoDialer). Im not sure about the multiple recipients thing, but you should give it a try and see if you like it.

getting new phone soon. I assume the store will move all my #### over?

also, anyone else really pissed about having like 99% available on the SD card, but my internal memory gets filled with the apps? i know you can move them, but then you cant use them unless you move them back?

Try 'App 2 SD Free'. It can move any apps that it will allow to your SD card and run them from there.

I am switching from an d iPhone to an HTC Merge and am looking for an easy way to port my contacts over. Is there such a thing?
I am pretty sure you can upload your contacts to Gmail using iTunes... then they will automagically be on the Merge once you activate the phone with your gmail account.

should we create a separate thread for tablets? I just got my first Android Tablet last week and have been slowly getting used to it.

Just got an Atrix 2 and I have some reading to do.

For those asking about transferring contacts, I had an old Sanyo flip phone with Sprint and Best Buy was able to transfer my contacts no problem to the Atrix 2 (on AT&T now).

I had to change to a new phone number though....but that probably had to do with my old phone number being several states away.

Those contacts were all transferred to phone storage, things will be cleaner Cletius if he can get them directly into Gmail - that way they will be stored in the cloud.

I don't know if this has been brought up, but is there an app for hdmi viewing that does not require you to root your phone? All I want to do is hook an hdmi cable to a tv and view what is on my phone, why is that so hard?
