Andy Reid and the Cardinals? (1 Viewer)

Will he be looking for a McCoy / Westbrook clone? If Ried goes to Arizona you can pretty much be assured that Beanie Wells is gone, if you aren't convinced already. Will Ryan Williams have a major role in Ried's offense? I sure hope they get a better QB in Arizona. Maybe Kurt Warner comes out of retirement, lol, jk.

I think it could be a good fit. Great defense, Great WR, huge hole at QB. Andy Reid's strength is getting QB production. Keep the defense out of his hands, and I think it could work. As long as Arizona doesn't bring Vick in.

Kolb was successful under Reid. Owner has already said he's not ready to give up on him.

Whoever is the coach, needs to focus on the OL. Could see Juan and Reid reuniting and them drafting a few guys to help with that cause.

Rex Burkhead in the 6th or 7th would be the perfect 2nd or 3rd string RB because he is great in passing game and/or maybe give up a late round pick for Dion Lewis which solves the RB problem. That doesn't take a whole lot to fix- very limited investment

This hiring would open many cans of worms as far as fantasy impact goes. We all know Andy Ried loves RBs like Westbrook and McCoy, so what does that mean for Ryan Williams? The writing was already on the wall for Wells, but a Ried hiring could have a big impact on Williams' future. I'm not convinced Kolb is assured of anything, regardless what was said by the owner and Kolb's relationship with Ried. If they feel a franchise QB has fallen to them in the draft, I'd be willing to bet the farm they select him. I do believe hiring Ried would be somewhat good news for Fitzgearld owners, minus a QB notwithstanding.

An offensive coach with a reputation for putting up points. They already have a pretty good defense and Reid won't touch the D. Leave that to the coordinator. Seems like a perfect fit to me. Fantasy gold. Welcome back Fitz!

Maybe, maybe not. The division lready has two of the top 3-4 defenses in the league and the Rams are probably going to be up there as well next year. Heavy task ahead for Other Walrus to make that team an offensive pwoerhouse.

@JasonLaCanfora: Reid could easily put together staff with guys like Juan Castillo, Pat Shurmur, Brad Childress. Also, Reid could work with Kolb if need be

Fantasy fools gold if they don't fix the Oline. How funny would it be if Andy brings in Vick and he usurps Kolb again?

Maybe Andy can stage a 3-man QB training camp competition between Vick,Kolb and McNabb.

I think odds just got a lot better for Kolb returning. I just pray they're really not going to pay him $11 mil this year.

Im not an expert but I think Reid needs a year off from coaching. I think he is a good coach but this last year he looked lost and I have never seen his players act like they have recently. Saying that I think if his head is on right and he picks a good DC he could turn Zona around pretty quickly.

Reid will be great for Kolb but he has been poor in just about every facet of his HC/GM responsibilities going on about 5 years now.

How are they complying with the Rooney rule?
@JasonLaCanfora: And, as i first reported, Ray Horton met with the Bidwells today, so Cards have complied with the Rooney Rule. Sounds like Reid to AZ, ASAP
WHEW!Good to get that out of the way.
The Rooney Rule is such a sham in the way that NFL clubs just barely do their part to meet the criteria for hiring. I'm reminded of the SNL skit with Eddie Murphy "White Like Me."In fact, here it is!

Vick will end up in Buffalo.
Would have said likely if Gailey returned, but if Whisenhunt gets that job, I really don't see it happening. His best chance to start somewhere may likely end up being as a stopgap solution tied to Chip Kelly. Declining physical skills and not being the most cerebral QB really won't make him that attractive. Really hard to believe a staff will think Vick can pick up a new offense in the span of 1 offseason. He may begin 2013 starting somewhere, but I'd be very surprised if he ended it starting.

Pretty big assumption not knowing who the Bills will hire to coach.
True. Jumping the gun.Not sure what other options the Bills will have. Not much in the FA market or this years draft in my mind but we'll see. Several teams including the Chiefs, Browns, Jags among others could use a QB upgrade. Also being reported that Schiano will bring in another QB to compete with Freeman

Meh - decent chance Reid does not go to the Cardinals. I am betting his agent is leaking the reports in hopes of drumming up some interest.

A source tells NFL.com a linchpin of Andy Reid's pitch for the Cardinals' coaching vacancy will be that he can "fix" Kevin Kolb.According to reporter Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals would "like to keep Kolb if possible." Reid apparently believes he has what it takes to salvage the career of a player he helped make a second-round pick in 2007. As AzCardinals.com's Darren Urban puts it, however, "keeping (Kolb) healthy out of coach's hands." Regardless, it's good news for Reid's desert candidacy that he's willing to work with his former pupil.
Just funny that Kolb lost his job in Philly...when he was hurt. And Andy said Vick gave them the best chance ...with a porous O-line at the time. (which Arizona has now)Unreal if the Cards bring in Andy and Kolb @ $11 mil in 2013. It's in Kolb's best interest to stay in AZ, but this situation isn't going to turn out well for the Cards or Andy if they bring him back at that $11 mil figure and don't bring in a solid backup QB. (The Cards draft must be OL early and often)Kolb certainly hasn't shown enough when healthy to be deemed as much more than a stopgap solution at QB. And the worst part is, that Andy (drafting him in Philly) could still view him a franchise QB option.

guess my opinion is based on the sub par QB play on numerous teams including the couple I listed above. He'll be more of a band aid obviously but I think he's a little better option than guys like Quinn, Fitz, Henne

There are a lot of clubs who treat it as a sham, but it cannot be denied that there are a lot more minority head coaches in the NFL than there are in the NCAA, and it seems obvious that the Rooney Rule has something to do with that, even if it's only calling attention to the issue.

I'm sure its all a smokescreen but...Cardinals deny interview with Reid is scheduled

Cardinals vice president of media relations Mark Dalton acknowledged that the team has reached out to Reid to talk to him about their coaching job, something president Michael Bidwill said they would do on Monday, while also saying that there’s been no meeting set up yet. Dalton also confirmed that current defensive coordinator Ray Horton interviewed for the head coaching job on Tuesday and that the team will interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy in Denver over the weekend.

What a joke that "rule" is.The spirit is great, but in actuality does anyone really believe it does anything? In this day and age information is abundant. It's not like the interviewers are going to just stumble upon someone they didn't know all about already. They are either going to hire the guy they really want (like this situation) or they are going to research, and bring in a bunch of candidates, leaving no stone un-turned. This is a pretty high profile position they are hiring for. They aren't just taking people off the streets, which is where this sort of "rule" would be a positive thing.

How would you explain the greater proportion of minority head coaches in the NFL than in the NCAA?
I don't want to take this thread on too much of a tangent, but I can think of quite a few possible reasons. What are the actual numbers, though? Anyone know?(This would be a great topic for another thread.)

Other teams want to talk with Horton as well (the Bills for one). Defense was just about the only thing the Cardinals did right this year.
ESPN ticker said that Horton has a second interview with AZ.

You'd think he would pick a team with a better oline. Instead he downgraded.

At least the weather will be better.

2010 says hi.
What happened there? We lost in the first round of the playoffs after losing the 2nd seed to Joe freaking Webb. And 2010 just might be the worst Eagles draft of the last 15 years. Only 2011 can compete with it for the title.

This article says that there were a grand total of 4 black college coaches in 1994 (at FBS schools), 4 in 2002, 5 in 2008, and 15 in 2012.The NFL currently has 3 black head coaches, but had 8 of them last season.
