Another T Jones Post (1 Viewer)

There have been a million posts on Lundy and trading him now because his value will never be higher. Can the same be said about T Jones. Should T Jones owners be thinking about trading him for decent value if they have the opportunity?

Trade him now while you can...he might take another phone call and Break his leg...Seriously Benson will Be the starter sooner rather than later

The Shark Pool seems to be divided in those that think Jones will keep the starting gig and put up very good numbers again and those that think he's merely warming the bench for Benson to come in and take over.

I don't think anyone knows how this is gonna play out, including Lovie Smith at the moment. If Jones plays well, he should keep the job. The moment he falters, Benson is right behind him, ready to take the reigns. If he gets a shot and succeeds, he could easily vault over Jones into the starters spot.

If I could get decent value for Jones I'd probably trade him simply so I wouldn't have to worry about him every week.

 I think holding onto Jones is a must until Benson proves that he can stay healthy.

Seems like another Barlow / Hearst deal to me. Older very good back versus back the everybody hates. We know how that turned out.

Benson has been drafted ahead to Jones in 2 drafts that i've done.people think Benson is the guy.gllllll
Its been the opposite for me. Most of the drafts i've been in TJ has been going before Benson. The only one that Benson went first was a dynasty league.ADP TJ - 57, Benson 82

I know for a fact that TJ will get drafted in my PPR money league on Thursday. Benson will be on the waiver wire. But then, we have very short benches, so...

I don't think now is a good time to trade for Benson. Thomas Jones opens up against Green Bay, Detroit and Minnesota; barring injury, I think he's going to look pretty good coming out of these three games.

Let's say that you spent a fifth round pick on Jones, and another owner in your league spent a fifth round pick to get Benson. Right now, he probably won't give you his fourth round pick for Jones. And he won't accept much less than a fifth round pick for Benson, feeling that he drafted Benson knowing that Jones was a little ahead, but that Benson was going to take the job eventually. But once Jones plays Green Bay, and maybe Detroit and Minnesota, that guy will probably realize that his RB situation isn't looking so good, and he'll be more likely to take two good players for a better player and Benson in a 2 for 2 deal.

what can you get for Thomas Jones right now?
My brother in law took D Davis in the 2nd round. (Obviously doesnt frequent this board). He now has C Brown and Jordan as his starters. He is looking for RB help and I was thinking of trading Jones and Lundy (both of whose value is extremely high right now) for L Jordan(Not necessarily asking for advice, that would be in the AC, but the guy asked)

Jones is a dead man walking. Benson is the sledgehammer, between the tackles, runner the Bears crave. As soon as he is healthy, he'll be the primary back. Although Jones has nice potential early in the season.

That's a joke and anybody who's seen Jones play the past couple of years knows it. Jones can/has run very effectively inside and outside the tackles. The one thing in this debate that I haven't heard mentioned is Rex Grossman's role. If Grossman starts off slowly and teams are able to stack the line against the run, that may be just enough of an excuse to get Benson a chance to start.

As a non-TJ..non Benson owner TJ is just a better football player than Benson.
As an owner of both in seperate leagues, TJ is the more proven football player and Benson has more upside to be better than Jones in Jones best year. The Bears will give Benson the opportunity to shine, it will be up to Benson to stay healthy and prove them right. We shall see how this plays out.

As of now, Benson is nothing more than an injury-prone runner who isn't even liked by his own teamates.

Until I see some production beyond the college level, he can't hold Thomas Jones' jock.

If there was a new front office, one which didn't feel a responsibility to defend the high pick wasted on Benson, Jones would be the undisputed starter and there wouldn't even be speculation.

I have to chuckle when I read all the Jones owners talking about how Benson will never be as good as TJ. Do you remember Jones' first 3 years in the league? He was TERRIBLE! Benson hasn't even been able to show what he can do at this level yet. So before you write him off, you might want to wait until he gets a chance at some extended playing time. And I can give you 30 million reason that Benson will get that chance.

I know people don't always care about others' teams, but I offer this as a representation of Jones' value right now.

In a 14 team, start 2 RB, standard FBG scoring league, I have Ronnie Brown, Bush, Jones, Lundy, and Marion Barber. The team with Benson has only James and Norwood as his other RBs. So he is currently forced to start Benson or Norwood.

I offered Jones and Antonio Bryant for Fitzgerald, and he mulled it over for a few days and declined. I go back and forth over whether or not it was a good trade for me, but ultimately I decided that my team is likely a playoff team, and I don't feel completely confident that Jones will be around to help my team out in the playoffs.

That said, this is not a bad thing for me, as I will probably start Jones this week. Hopefully he'll have a nice game and his value will go up.

If there is ever going to be a week for Thomas Jones to put up huge numbers, it's this week.

They play a week defense.

He has been insulted by being told he lost his job after having an excellent season last year.

He knows Benson is recovering and that this may be his last chance to make a statement.

This has 130 yards and two TDs written all over it.

I see the O-line working harder for TJ than for Benson. It's kind of alarming when your own teammates don't particularly like you.

So you're saying that the Bears o-line would rather lose than have Benson succeed? I really doubt that.

I can't see the lineman purposely playing badly because Benson is in there. First off, they're professionals. Secondly, the lineman are also competeing for their starting roles and NFL futures.I could, however, see them giving an extra 10% when Jones is in there.

I agree that in theory you are correct, but most leagues have already adjusted for this and so Jones value is a lot lower than the numbers he is about to put up suggest. Personally i would ride him out for a couple weeks. If he posts good numbers and the Bears are winning, the Benson shadow will seem a lot less threatening. In my opinion the risk in holding him is worth the potential payoff of trading him with more value in a few weeks, plus getting the mileage out of him now.

Agreed. The Benson owners are still of the mindset that their guy will take over the job so they view Jones as a "temporary" starter. After the 3rd game when Jones continues to get 20 carries and Benson is in the 5 carry range is when reality will set in.

Well I drafted Benson in round 10, with the Jones owner taking him in the fourth round. The value was there so I took him. If he becomes the starter, great, if not, it only cost me a round 10 pick.

For those taking Benson early, I would say round 8 or sooner, you are reaching or you are hedging your bet if you took T Jones.

And if he stinks this week?"Well, uhhhh.... poor widdle Thomas is still not fully recovered from the hamstring injury.""Well, uhhhh.... the offensive line has some issues."Too funny. Can you feel the TJ owners panicking? So can I.

what writing is that? what has changed between last year and this year that would make Benson such a clear stud besides getting injured, alienating his teammates and coaching staff?Let me take a wild guess, you have Benson.

Don't get me wrong, great posting, I just wonder if it is not too high-level for here. Perhaps FFToday might be more your speed...

You mean other than the fact that Lovie had named Benson the starter before he got hurt?

You can hang your hat on that but IMO that had more to do with TJ missing mini-camps than it did with Benson being the better RB. Also, that was back when? May? A lot has happened between then and now (Lovie getting scolding Benson, teammates not happy with him, Benson getting injured again, etc.) As I've said before I think Benson's shot to start was this offseason and it was lost when he got injured and he certainly didn't gain any points with his teammates or coach with his preseason attitude. Is it conceivable that Benson overtakes Jones? Sure, what % would I put on it assuming Jones is producing like he did last year and doesn't get injured? maybe 20% and that would be due to Benson clearly outplaying Jones in his limited opportunities. He hasn't done it to date so I see Jones as being a solid starter with a good backup at this point.

BTW, I don't own either RB in any leagues and could care less how it shake out. I just think the logic that Benson is getting paid a lot and was a high draft pick doesn't matter in the real NFL world as many FF'ers think especially when the Bears are a SB contender and not a rebuilding franchise looking to the future. If that were the case I'd give Benson a better chance at starting but this team is going to play the best player and right now I think that Jones is the better player.

Exactly.

Last year, I traded Jones away as soon as I heard Benson had signed (and the word wasn't really out there yet). I'm not exactly sure now, but I think that trade may have involved Culpepper :bag: ... regardless, it didn't work out well for me.

This year, I'm willing to risk holding onto him until we get into the season a bit. The potential reward is worth it. If he's doing well, no way Lovie pulls him out for Benson. If he stuggles, he's still a Benson injury away from full-time starter.

yup  I targeted Jones in my league and will be holding onto him unless injured, expecting him to hold onto the job as well.

Raidernation -I can feel the bitterness. Let it go. The season will be over fast enough and then you all will be looking at a complete rebirth with great new player and new coaches and all the rest. But for now, Bears would crush the Raiders. :P :excited:
