Anti-maskers, can we talk about why? (1 Viewer)

Well, I don't get enraged by much in general.  

I too try my best to keep a distance.  I just get that it might not be practical for bigger grocery stores or something like Costco to do so at all times.  Too many people, they have to cross paths or look at something on the same shelf, etc.  Not everyone can go at 11pm to avoid people like I try to.   

I agree that it probably is the bigger part of the equation, and should be followed to the best of outlr ability, but masks should be on in case it cant.

I have seen several interviews or posts where people say god will protect them.  Maybe not as much now, but for sure a few months ago when states where suggesting no groups of more than 20-30, but churches were still having big services.

Exactly! It's logical in those places that people will not socially distance although I have had to point out to people to still stay back, they think the mask is a pass to get close. 

I also wear very dark or mirrored sunglasses and sometimes a cap/hat as well(saw an Asian lady doing it, looked cool), again the more menacing I appear the more I find people stay back for the most part. 

Oh and while we are piling on, I think all emotional support dogs should be banned from every indoor area, especially during the pandemic. I am allergic to almost all pets like cats and dogs but I especially do not like dogs in public places except in that rare instance where they are a sight dog leading a blind person, but that dog is really working and the ones that get a bandana wrapped around their neck that says support, get out of here. The emotional support stuff needs to take a hiatus for a while, if you need that kind of care, stay home!!!

A lot of those support dogs look like they need their own support dogs.

2.  everybody is going to get this/be exposed to this anyway. 

3.  religious

The best thing I ever downloaded was the Sam's Club app. Seeing that long line with people breathing down each other's necks is a pleasure to walk by when Im done gathering my things.

We have decided that 50k a year, mostly elderly, is acceptable. We will eventually decide that the losses from covid are acceptable too as they get whittled down with various improvements in treatments and immunity.

Haven't read a post in this thread yet but I'm willing to bet several of these "reasons" have been discussed:

1.  "Ideally, distance is the best thing".  While true, we aren't living in an ideal world.  And it seems, as research comes out, this thing might be more airborne than we think.  At this point, it seems like we should be more on the cautious side than the "let me see how close I can be while still believing I'm safe" side at this point.  
2.  "People don't even wear them the right way".  This is also true...that's not a knock on masks, that's a person issue.
3.  "Government can't tell me what to do" (this might not actually be said here...not sure).  Of course it's absurd on its face.  We are told what to do all the time by government especially in terms of societal behavior.
4.  "At the very beginning we were told that masks don't work or aren't necessary".  Very true.  My question to those saying this is simple...you listened to them then, so why aren't you listening to them now?  It's probably the most illogical and unhonest position of the bunch IMO.
 

There are probably many others, but these are the most popular ones I hear all the time.  All I can say is, we don't live in an ideal world and people aren't doing what they need to do on their own from following distancing rules to wearing masks around others.  Given these realities, it seems necessary to force people to both distance and wear a mask.  Now, it seems like common sense to me on how to wear a mask and mask maintenance, but clearly that isn't true for many.  Perhaps a little of the energy our governments are using to keep mandates away would be better spent on mask wearing and maintenance?  You know...simple bullet points.  This is how it should fit on your face.  This is how you put it on and take it off.  This is how many times you can use one before replacing or washing.  These are steps you can take to do maintenance cleanings between thorough washings etc.  We can't get to this phase because people are still bickering over stupid political nonsense.  It's absurd.

Wish more stores had something similar.  I actually enjoy going to Sam's Club now, just for the moment of enjoyment going past all the people standing in line.

Man, this is tough to read.

It's like a window into the soul of America right now, and that soul looks dark and black for the future of our society. So much hate and vitriol over something that should bring us together right now.

Hell, even if they don't work, we have to try something. This ain't about freedom, or liberty, or government control. It's about simple common courtesy for your fellow man and woman.

Not according to my sister.  This is clearly a manufactured event to advance the development of facial recognition software when only partial faces are able to be seen.  It is also plot designed to weaken our immune systems for when the real virus is released later this year.  This is all New World Order level stuff for her.

I understand the concept/theory of "people wear it wrong, so they have a false sense of security".  But I look at the countries where people have been wearing masks and it just seems to be effective in reducing transmission and I'm pretty confident that the residents there didn't get some secret training on how to wear a mask properly.

Yup.  "Plandemic" was being passed around the crazy circles a couple months ago.  Unfortunately, the internet and social media have really legitimized whacko conspiracy theories for a lot of people and I don't anticipate anything will bring these people back to reality anytime soon.  If anything, it will just get worse.

While I acknowledge the upper Midwest is more intelligent than most parts of the country, I dont see a high percentage of people who wear them incorrectly. Are they out there? Of course. But I think the amount of people doing it is a bit overblown.

(might have been the Spanish-American war, or that one we had with the Russkies in Alaska, not totally sure on the timing of those)

yeah, i see this on my facebook feed an unfortunate number of times daily.

i'd say there are a handful of people whose postings are generally... weird (to me)... who have really ramped up the conspiracy theory postings the last few months. things like "if you have stage 4 lung cancer you only need to drink water and herbal tea don't listen to the liars who say you need chemo!"

there's some 5g conspiracy stuff in there.

lots of ranting about Obama and Biden, etc. this whole covid-19 is a liberal hoax to take down Trump. 

it's a weird, wild, bizarre world out there when you start listening to people.

This thread is kind of a microcosm of whats wrong with this country right now. A thread is started in which nearly everyone agrees, so it gets filled with things "Ive seen on the internet"....and the criticism starts. Its like everyone wakes up in the morning, looking for something to argue or to ##### about. It really is odd to me.

Pro-mask here.  We just go visit family (don't wear masks) and to the store.  Wear mask in all public buildings and stores.  Keep a couple of masks in the car for wherever we go.  I wish everyone would wear a mask in public settings, but I don't get out of shape if they don't.

Probably true. At least judging from my FB feed, those most anti-mask or "pro freedom" are those who did enlist and have fought in multiple places.  Kind of sad, these guys had no problem wearing pro masks or using a blank adapter in training, but a piece of cloth is too much.

I dont understand this concept at all. Wearing a seatbelt doesnt make you drive faster. Wearing a bike helmet doesnt make blow through intersections. 

The anti maskers arent the ones waiting for 3 minutes while grandma checks the dates on all of the milks before ultimately picking the first one. They will get right in there side by side with granny and get their stuff. 

It is a made up thing. There is literally no data, science, or anything to back it up.

That's not a bad question.  Its more like 20-60k with the flu.   50k would be a pretty bad year.    Who knows where covid will wind up before we get a vaccine;  maybe 300-400k and that's with all the social distancing and mask wearing.    Big issue with covid is the asymptomatic spreaders.   With the flu, you have symptoms if you have it and most responsible people stay home if they do.   Its at least fairly apparent to those around you that you're sick so even if you're not responsible people at least know to stay away.   With covid, you really have no idea who has it.

I went to a large protest march a few weeks ago and maybe only 10-20%% of the people marching had masks on.  Then some guy got mad at me because he was in my space and I said 'dude you need to back off or put a mask on"  his reply was FU.  My wife said don`t get into a fight over this lets just stay away from people.

Some people just don`t get it.

I see it all the time.  Below the nose, neck mask, see it all the time.

Early on, I was in a Target waiting for someone to get something from an aisle, giving them their room, but what I wanted was next to where they were standing.  They were taking forever, and it was the last thing I needed, so I went up next to her and grabbed what I wanted.  She actually took her mask down off her face to say something to me.  There are plenty of stupid people up here too.
