Antonio Gates Value (1 Viewer)

Curious to see what kind of trades Antonio Gates have gone down in other leagues.

(I'm sure league formats will vary his value.)

I'm in a 12-team, roster 15, keep 3 from year to year league (at no cost) and I just rejected a Marvin Harrison for Gates offer, straight up. Not exactly what you were looking for, but I figured it would work as a first response.

I just traded for him last week... was when A Johnson was looking to play this past week or this coming week (before the news it might be until week 11). I traded away AJ with Kevin Walter, Sammy Morris (he has maroney) and Greg Ogden. Obviously, once the news came out that AJ might be a few weeks away, that made this deal a huge windfall for me, but had AJ returned it would have been a lot closer in value.

I just got him in a blockbuster:

start 1 qb, 1 rb, 1 flex, 2 wr, 1 te, can keep 2 players a year ...

I traded: Addai, TO, Bears D (I have Pats D, Welker, Holmes, Andre Johnson, All Day, and no real QB)

I got: Gates, Favre, Marshawn (he had no WR, has Peyton, and had Heath Miller who he likes)

I don't know if that helps because multi-player deals are hard to evaluate.... but I considered him a focal point of the deal...

I traded Harrison + Vernon Davis + Alex Smith (QB) for Gates, Calvin Johnson, Matt Schaub.

I'm in a 10 team, 5 Keeper (must keep exactly 5 players from previous roster) league in our 10th year with 8 of the original owners.

The guy who has AG drafted him his rookie season and has kept him every season. And will keep him next season, too. So, AG is nearly "un-tradeable" in our league.

You have Gates, right?

In my 12-team 18-player full dynasty league, he was traded 2-for-1 for Anthony Gonzalez (WR-Ind) and Deuce McAllister (pre-injury).

As a contender, I bought him in my dynasty with a 2nd round pick from a rebuilder for Bowe, Vernon, and DeAngelo. Still having some serious buyers remorse.

I think I am kind of "stuck" with him. I ended up trading for him and now have Winslow and Gates. I was wanting to trade for a solid WR, but was unable to do so. The Gates owner had some serious needs, so I traded for him instead (we have a TE and a WR/TE slot). So, I figured I would just start Gates as my WR2.

I really would like to package him together for an upgrade at WR, but my asking price may be too high :bowtie:

12 team, mandatory TE league.

I just traded him away.

Julius Jones

Fred Taylor

A Gates

Cleo Lemon

for

Jason Campbell

Frank Gore

Javon Walker

Donald Lee

Trade (between week three and four), no keeping, no redraft, nothing out the ordinary:

Gates, Romo, Reggie Wayne, Fred Taylor, Wes Welker (3-0 team sends)

Colston, SJax, Bulger, Todd Heap (0-3 sends)

Basicly got a super-stud (SJax) in exchange for him and a gave a bit of value elsewhere. At the time people said it was robbery on my part.

As it worked out all the players received became injured/underperformed relative to what my expectations were. Still, happy with the value I got for Gates (I think my expectations were reasonable) and I was trading for playoff value.

Actually let me ask. What WR would you say he is worth? I I am thinking he is worth a top 10 WR (especially in our league where he can be used as TE or WR). (ETA: I would say he is on the lower side of the top 10)

I have him in a 14 team PPR, must start TE league and wouldn't trade him for pretty much anything right now. It would have to be a healthy upper end TE like Clark, Witten, Miller or Winslow and a number 1 WR or RB.

I put him (Gates) on the chopping block on 09/26/07....was asking for "Looking to trade for top tier RB or elite WR...send offers"

Still waiting on a offer....i think i need to find a new league

PPR, TE mandatory league. I rejected a trade offer of Winslow & M.Barber for Gates. Gates continues to produce like a top 5 WR & is rock solid week in and week out.

I will tell you I have been rejected A LOT when offering Gates. Its a TE mandatory league too. I am glad they didnt accept in hindsight. I offered Henry/Selv/Gates for Brandon Jacobs/Shockey, they turned me down. I was shocked. And glad.

It seems like those with Gates have a higher value of him than those without. Maybe I'm wrong here.

12 team league, mandatory TE,

Right after the Henry marijuana news broke, I picked up Selvin Young and then traded Shockey/Edge for Gates/Henry.

I would say thats true with any player. But there is no way that my trade was not in his favor. I just needed to get a better RB, so I put it out there. I actually started a help thread just to gain some perspective on the potential trade, and it was overwhelmingly against me making that trade. Gates in my PPR league (.75) is very high up on the WR ladder, nevermind the TE list. I think while you have some merit, there is not way that Gates is overvalued at this point.

I disagree.. Gates in certain leagues holds tremendous value. In 12+ team TE mandatory leagues, with pt or half point for receptions, Gates is a huge advantage. He is an advantage EVERY week, and a BIG advantage half the weeks. What is tough about Gates is his replacement cost. If you are looking to get Gates, there is a good chance you don't have one of the 5 or so other TEs that are good (D Clark, Winslow etc). So you are asking the Gates owner to take a HUGE step down at that position for what? You really need to improve his team somewhere else.

You were not talking to me right? Because I am in total agreement with you. I think Gates is a huge advantage in any TE league.

Just got home from work. At this point, I think I'm disagreeing with everyone. I was disagreeing with those who thought that Gates was overvalued by his owners.

Don't get me wrong, I am with you. I think he has great value. I just wonder if people who do not have him realize or value Gates as much as those that do have him. Evidently by some of the responses here they do not. :shrug:Someone above stated that he is putting up top 5 WR numbers in their league. That is huge. However if you had a top 5 WR would you trade him for Gates? Or top 10?

Not to make this an ACF thread, but I would not trade a top 5 WR for him..in my league anyway. I would also not give Gates uo for the number 10 WR either. I think he is right about there in terms of value. JMO, though.

I have Witten in a ppr te mandatory league. I am thinking of trying to target Gates. Was wondering if its worth making a trade, and if he will be that much of an upgrade over Witten for this year...

"Value" wise he is probably worth a 6-10 WR. But again, how do you help replace Gates? When you give up the #7 WR, you can put back say a mix of Ron Curry and Ike Hilliard - play the mathcups and you go from #7 to #30. Sometimes you can put an even better WR in the mix, maybe a galloway (ironic though as perhaps Hilliard is better in PPR leagues than galloway, but work with me here) or S. Holmes type. But, the guy who had Gates - who does he go to? If he is LUCKY, an Owen Daniels? Not close to replacing those points. Unless you have at least a heath miller or Cooley you lose so much production in the deal.

I am fortunate enough to have Gates and Winslow. I am considering offering Gates and S.Holmes for TO. Not sure if the TO owner will go for it.

Personally, I think for this year's wr's Gates is worth any one of the following:

Fitzgerald

Boldin

Owens

Roy Williams

Driver

B Edwards

But less than:

Moss

S Smith

Housh

CJohnson

Wayne

All depends though on scoring, mandatory TE's, and the depth of teams. A guy that has Moss and CJohnson with say, Randy McMichael may want to give up CJ for Gates.

Just my views as a Gates owner in a PPR league.

12 team, 2 keeper league.

Gave:

Rudi

Kenny Watson

Andre Johnson

Gates

Got:

McGahee

Berrian

Gonzo

I thought McGahee was a better keeper, needed a roster spot(picked up Chris Henry RB) and was worried about RBBC in Cincy. I'm not thrilled with this trade a week later, but such is life.

I have Witten in a ppr te mandatory league. I am thinking of trying to target Gates. Was wondering if its worth making a trade, and if he will be that much of an upgrade over Witten for this year...
That is the debate. FWIW, before the season, I had offered Boldin and Shockey for Gates and S. Rice in a dynasty league, got rejected and the Gates owner never countered. Before Walker got injured, I could have afforded giving a top 10 WR for him, but with Shockey, I would want to get a WR back in a 2 for 2, that seems to have been part of the holdup. Now I have Shockey, Daniels and Scaife, as much as I like Gates, giving a WR like Boldin, Roy, or Braylon straight for him doesn't make a lot of sense although it's probably fair.

In a PPR cap league, I traded Gates/Turner/2K8 third rounder for Willie Parker/Shockey/2K9 first rounder.

The deal improved both teams.

I traded for Gates in two seperate leagues just last week, both leagues are 12 team redraft,PPR and mandatory TE.

League #1 Start 1QB 2RB 2WR 1TE 1PK and 1DEF - T.O.,T.Heap and K.Faulk for A.Gates and L.Coles. Loves T.O. :goodposting:

League #2 Start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1PK and 1DEF- ADP and H.Miller for W.McGahey and A.Gates. Minny Homer. :X

I've got him in my PPR Mandatory TE Dynasty league, he won't be touched.

Before the start of the 2006 season, I gave Evans, Maroney,Deuce Mcallister for him.

I have Gates in a TE mandatory dynasty that gives PPR and 1pt/5 yards receiving. He is 2nd among TEs right now behind Witten but Gates had his bye week already. It would take a nice offer to pry him away. Dont know what exactly but a top RB and top WR or top WR/RB with a decent TE in return. Would have to see it before making the assumption.

Just traded KJones, Olsen for Curtis, Gates.

I hadnt checked, but turns out I'm playing that team this week.

I wouldn't have done it, except I currently start LT, ADP, and Bush (2-3), have Graham on the bench and acquired the probable 08 1.01 or 1.02 this past off season. In short, I'm ok at RB.

i think this is the case with most players. owner overvalue their players

Or, they simply like their players enough to have acquired/kept them.

I offered Heap & Braylon/Roy Will for Gates last week and was rejected... TE mandatory, ppr.

I traded away Gates earlier this season

16 - man keeper league 1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1K/1TD - non ppr

Gave away:

Harrison/Gates

for

Lynch/Calvin Johnson(injured at the time)

Felt that Lynch was just too much to pass up in a 16man keeper and I needed help at RB.

Wow. Did you at least kiss him after screwing him like that?
Yeah, this kind of crap amuses me. Obviously this does not help anybody determine legitimate trade value, but people do love to thump their chest when they take advantage of a stupid person, so we always get these "look what I pulled off" posts. To each their own, I guess.

I look at it like this: the acquiring of Chambers was to open up the field for Gates, sort of like you would acquire a better lineman for LT. The idea is to make bigger holes for your studs. And make no doubt about it, Gates is a huge stud, Turner knows it, and this whole acquisition is centered around him.

Right after the Chambers trade, I moved KWII, Berrian, James Jones for Gates, K, and a D. PPR dynasty league. (I had great depth at WR obviously)
