You have Gates, right?I'm in a 12-team, roster 15, keep 3 from year to year league (at no cost) and I just rejected a Marvin Harrison for Gates offer, straight up. Not exactly what you were looking for, but I figured it would work as a first response.
Wow. Did you at least kiss him after screwing him like that?I traded Harrison + Vernon Davis + Alex Smith (QB) for Gates, Calvin Johnson, Matt Schaub.
Actually let me ask. What WR would you say he is worth? I I am thinking he is worth a top 10 WR (especially in our league where he can be used as TE or WR). (ETA: I would say he is on the lower side of the top 10)I think I am kind of "stuck" with him. I ended up trading for him and now have Winslow and Gates. I was wanting to trade for a solid WR, but was unable to do so. The Gates owner had some serious needs, so I traded for him instead (we have a TE and a WR/TE slot). So, I figured I would just start Gates as my WR2. I really would like to package him together for an upgrade at WR, but my asking price may be too high![]()
It seems like those with Gates have a higher value of him than those without. Maybe I'm wrong here.I will tell you I have been rejected A LOT when offering Gates. Its a TE mandatory league too. I am glad they didnt accept in hindsight. I offered Henry/Selv/Gates for Brandon Jacobs/Shockey, they turned me down. I was shocked. And glad.
I would say thats true with any player. But there is no way that my trade was not in his favor. I just needed to get a better RB, so I put it out there. I actually started a help thread just to gain some perspective on the potential trade, and it was overwhelmingly against me making that trade. Gates in my PPR league (.75) is very high up on the WR ladder, nevermind the TE list. I think while you have some merit, there is not way that Gates is overvalued at this point. It seems like those with Gates have a higher value of him than those without. I disagree.. Gates in certain leagues holds tremendous value. In 12+ team TE mandatory leagues, with pt or half point for receptions, Gates is a huge advantage. He is an advantage EVERY week, and a BIG advantage half the weeks. What is tough about Gates is his replacement cost. If you are looking to get Gates, there is a good chance you don't have one of the 5 or so other TEs that are good (D Clark, Winslow etc). So you are asking the Gates owner to take a HUGE step down at that position for what? You really need to improve his team somewhere else.I would say thats true with any player. Just got home from work. At this point, I think I'm disagreeing with everyone. I was disagreeing with those who thought that Gates was overvalued by his owners. You were not talking to me right? Don't get me wrong, I am with you. I think he has great value. I just wonder if people who do not have him realize or value Gates as much as those that do have him. Not to make this an ACF thread, but I would not trade a top 5 WR for him..in my league anyway. I would also not give Gates uo for the number 10 WR either. I think he is right about there in terms of value. JMO, though.Don't get me wrong, I am with you. I think he has great value. Someone above stated that he is putting up top 5 WR numbers in their league. That is huge. However if you had a top 5 WR would you trade him for Gates? Or top 10?
"Value" wise he is probably worth a 6-10 WR. But again, how do you help replace Gates? When you give up the #7 WR, you can put back say a mix of Ron Curry and Ike Hilliard - play the mathcups and you go from #7 to #30. Sometimes you can put an even better WR in the mix, maybe a galloway (ironic though as perhaps Hilliard is better in PPR leagues than galloway, but work with me here) or S. Holmes type. But, the guy who had Gates - who does he go to? If he is LUCKY, an Owen Daniels? Not close to replacing those points. Unless you have at least a heath miller or Cooley you lose so much production in the deal. Not to make this an ACF thread, but I would not trade a top 5 WR for him..in my league anyway. That is the debate. FWIW, before the season, I had offered Boldin and Shockey for Gates and S. Rice in a dynasty league, got rejected and the Gates owner never countered. Before Walker got injured, I could have afforded giving a top 10 WR for him, but with Shockey, I would want to get a WR back in a 2 for 2, that seems to have been part of the holdup. Now I have Shockey, Daniels and Scaife, as much as I like Gates, giving a WR like Boldin, Roy, or Braylon straight for him doesn't make a lot of sense although it's probably fair.I have Witten in a ppr te mandatory league. I am thinking of trying to target Gates. Was wondering if its worth making a trade, and if he will be that much of an upgrade over Witten for this year...
i think this is the case with most players. owner overvalue their playersIt seems like those with Gates have a higher value of him than those without. That's just silly.Start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex at RB or WR. Half point for reception.I traded Harrison + Vernon Davis + Alex Smith (QB) for Gates, Calvin Johnson, Matt Schaub.
Yeah, this kind of crap amuses me. Obviously this does not help anybody determine legitimate trade value, but people do love to thump their chest when they take advantage of a stupid person, so we always get these "look what I pulled off" posts. To each their own, I guess.Wow. Did you at least kiss him after screwing him like that?I traded Harrison + Vernon Davis + Alex Smith (QB) for Gates, Calvin Johnson, Matt Schaub.
