I don't have the link, but read that Antonio Gates was excused from OTA's to go see a foot specialist. I imagine this is the same foot that gave him problems two years ago? To the best of my recollection, he didn't many issues with it during the 2009 season? If this turns out to be a serious problem, I'd obviously look to downgrade Rivers, Matthews, and Jackson. That said, I'm hoping it's a precautionary visit and he'll be okay for the start of training camp and or the regular season.

I wouldn't worry about Gates, he played through the same thing last year, and this is all just maintenance. The guy's a stud and he is going into a contract year. Gates is and will continue to be :hey:

This is not the same problem he's been having before; I think it was a toe injury previously, but now it seems like a general foot issue. I think this will probably clear up before the season starts, but if not, Gates is a trooper; he's been hurt pretty bad in the past but continued to produce on the field.

I can see you putting a question mark next to Gates, but I'm curious as to why you'd downgrade the rest of the offense. If Gates misses time I would imagine they have the tools (M. Floyd for one) would could keep Rivers' options open and the offense in general flowing.

Antonio Gates was prescribed rest and rehab but should be full-go by training camp.

The Pro Bowl tight end was at today's afternoon practice, watching and smiling after his quick trip to North Carolina.

Gates said that foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson told him he has a "minor form of plantar fasciitis that should ebb with a few weeks off. Gates will not work in tomorrow's final minicamp practice and will skip the final four offseason coaching sessions, June 8-12.

"I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be an issue during the season," Gates said. "... He gave me a gameplan."

Gates said treatment and staying off the foot is all he is expecting to have to do. He said trouble coordinating schedules with Anderson forced the trip during minicamp.

"It's nothing," Gates said.

The pain is in Gates' right foot, which is opposite from the foot that required surgery after the 2007 season.

Though Antonio Gates (plantar fasciitis) insists he's feeling "much better," he acknowledges that he could be limited in training camp.

"It's a lot better [now]. It was bothering me to walk around," said Gates. "Once I start back running I will kind of get an idea. Then I can determine whether the foot is healthy enough." Gates had been ordered to rest for three weeks, so he won't return to football activities until after spring practices are over. While the subsiding of pain is encouraging, it's an injury that could linger with NFL pounding. We'll feel better about his prospects for 2010 if he's back to 100 percent by August.
