ANtonio Pittman (1 Viewer)

I picked him up in the 1st round of free agent pickups in my 14 team league.

This kid was a 4th round pick and one the Saints probably would like to have back right about now. Any Rams Homers out there hear anything as to his role with the team right now. I have searched and found nothing.

Thanks in advance

Oh boy is New Orleans regretting this drop......can't understand it actually. They traded up with the Texans to draft him, then dump him at the roster deadline.

I'm not a STL homer, but I'd bet that Pittman sees some carries. We don't really know if Leonard will be able to take 20-25 carries in his 1st game as a starter.

I have Pittman on a few teams and wondering this same thing.....I will be at a sportsbar on Sunday so I'm going to pay close attention to the STL/DAL game and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply. It's amazing that I have not seen anything on this kid. Is he even going to be active?

Rams coach Scott Linehan says he plans to get rookie RB Antonio Pittman "some snaps" in Week 5 against the Cardinals.

That probably means five or six touches at best. Pittman could be a liability in blitz pickup, where starter Brian Leonard excels, and isn't near as familiar with the St. Louis offense. He's likely still a ways away from contributing.

Things seem to be turning up for Pittman:
November 15, 2007, 14:58 Rams :: RBRams Shake Up RB Depth ChartSteve Korte, Belleville News Democrat - [Full Article]The St. Louis Rams have seen glimpses of what rookie Antonio Pittman can do. So much so, that they have elevated him to being RB Steven Jackson's primary backup. RB Brian Leonard had previously filled that role, but Pittman will serve as the No. 2 back and spell Jackson occasionally during games. Leonard will be the primary fullback and occasional third-down back. Pittman was claimed off waivers from the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 2. "The idea was, at some point, he was going to be at that spot," HC Scott Linehan said. "We are now in a position where we can use Brian in primarily the fullback spot, which is why we drafted and brought him here. Pittman had enough time in our offense at this point that we felt he would be ready to be the No. 2 guy at the tailback spot."

This couldn't be further from the truth. Pittman was terrible in pass protection and ran with very little burst or passion during preseason, and the simple fact is Pierre Thomas totally outplayed him -- that is why the Saints cut Pittman The only thing they are likely regretting is wasting the trade up and 4th round pick on him. Throw out Pittman's fluke 43 yard run (Rams caught the Saints in an all out blitz, and once he cleared the line, there was no LB or S within 15 yards of him) and he's a sterling 15 carries for 29 yards this season, you do the math.

I love the failed extrapolation theory. It seems to be quite common these days.Fact is he busted off a sweet run,and he's still a rookie with the equivalentof one rushing game under his belt.I personally think he is a good buy low and hold.

why are the Saints upset about not having him ..

he is terrible at pass protection .... he was terrible at pass protecting in college as well ..

he was a little over valued coming out of college .. since Ohio had one of the best O-Lines in the nation ..

He got cut because he refused to play special teams ( there was a past article somewhere .... where he referred to himself in the 3rd person adn said Antonio doesnt play special teams )

I was at camp this year and he got into atleast 3 fights on the field ---- he lost his spot to a undrafted Thomas who actually runs hard

he ripped off 1 .. 1 .... 1 .. run ... please

move along . nothing to see here

Apparently, the Rams disagree. They seem to think he played well enough to make him the back up. And I thought Leonard played pretty well considering. As for your comment that he was hoorible pass protecting in college, while he was not a top flight blocker, horrible doesn't really serve justice either. At times he did well but I think his technique could use improving especially for the NFL. And it's worth noting that many of the backs cuurently in the FL do not pass block very well either. It's one of the most difficult skills for them to learn and execute well. The one's that do it well usually get more playing time. While I don't think he'll be a starter anytime soon, he can provide a team a decent back up. And if the opportunity presents itself then something good could happen. Afterall, things happen to hard workers. Just ask the starting RB in Grenn Bay. I don't think anyone had him pegged as a prospect.

Was nothing "sweet" about it - the run was one that 99% of the RBs in the NFL would make. In fact, most RBs would have scored on it. Pittman didn't. He couldn't beat out an undrafted FA out of Illinois for the 4th RB spot on the Saints roster. Enough said.

This is a failure of the Saints coaching staff cutting AP prematurely. Again, he has the equivalent of one rushing game under his belt,

and you have already sent him out to pasture.

Obviously you did not watch any Ohio State games last season.
