Any 'forgotten' QB's for deep consideration? (1 Viewer)

There are a lot of QB's who didn't initially work out who had buzz during the draft. Just wondering if there are any guys for deep dynasty leagues to stash that may get a shot with another team in a few years.

For example, let's say Cam Newton takes over in Carolina. Clausen sits on their roster, and in a couple years is traded (kinda like Schaub). Most will remember his rookie season and will have forgotten about him. But he could spend time developing, and come on later in his career to be a starter. Or Alex Smith/Colin Kap.

Beck was written off, now there is all this buzz about him starting in Washington. He looked pretty good the other night. Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart, David Carr, Vince Young... all had buzz and were drafted high.

Just wondering if there is some value to stash guys like this (with high draft grades) who seem to flop, coming back after development and starting.

Thoughts?

NOT SURE IF THIS FITS WHAT YOUR LOOKING...but i like Colt McCoy QB Cleve a lot he has a chance to be really good in a couple years..maybe sooner if they can find him a big WR or if Little pans out..

ok now reading you post again MCcoy would not fit but i got another that fits for what your looking for.. Jed Hoyer QB pats...perfect for what you are looking for..some think hes better than Cassels.

I agree, but he hasn't been 'forgotten.' I tried to trade for him in a 2-QB dynasty league, and let's just say his perceived value is quite high right now.

These guys don't fall into the have not worked out category, but I REALLY like both Brian Hoyer and Mike Kafka long term.

As for what your asking for, I'd offer up Matt Moore. He's showed he can play in the NFL, but Carolina decided to go in a different direction. Henne is far from a lock as the QB of the future in Miami, so Moore could surprise.

Depending on how the line holds up, McNabb could have a bounce-back year. Plus, he won't cost you much.

Totally agree with those 2. But they really have to be showcased by their current teams if they want to trade them, because IIRC neither were high picks.

I like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Cam Newton and Tim Tebow...but thats just me lol. Like Ryan Mallet and Brian Hoyer for the long term, but I'm not sure they are rosterable as of now (unless you have a deep dynasty bench). Another sneaky guy I like for redraft is Vince Young, Id assume Vick misses a few games and with those weapons, I like Young a lot.

I would watch Josh McCown in San Francisco (have already picked him up in my one appropriate league) - he doesn't have much in front of him and neither of those guys are any good so he could soon be the starter for the 49ers

I would remember Matt Moore's name. I think he'll get a chance to start for Miami this year, maybe even for a bulk of the season and then, who knows?

I would also consider Matt Flynn and Brian Hoyer, who seem destined to get shots at starting sooner rather than later when they reach free agency.

If I played dynasty, I'd go after Mallet in a big way.

I also think Vince Young could get coached up in Philly and is a nice buy low.

Backup GB QBs have a history of finding starting jobs elsewhere, so Flynn merits consideration. And I've heard some good things about Josh Portis out in Seattle. Its not like there is alot in front of him there. He's had some legal issues, so here's hoping he's gotten his act together.

How has nobody mentioned Dennis Dixon yet? He was the "it QB" last season when the topic was sneaky long-term plays.

In addition to Dixon, I've got several other young "no name" QBs in my 30-40 range. Mallett, Fitzpatrick, and Young all have a bit of buzz around them and might not come super-cheap, but I really like the Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson suggestions.

If you want to go really off-the-radar, I think Troy Smith is worth a flyer.

John Skelton. Still raw, but the athletic ability is there. Hopefully he will continue to develop and eventually blossom. Unfortunately in my dynasty leagues where the roster limits are 25, he'll likely miss the cut this season. He could be the second coming of Andrew Walter, but I see him as kind of a poor man's Big Ben with potential to start somewhere, eventually.

:goodposting: Word out of GB is they badly don't want to see him go. Many within the organization think Flynn is ready to tear it up when he gets a shot.

David Carr looked pretty good tonight. I know it's against the Bears 2nd D but he can throw the ball pretty hard and his decisions looked good.

Maybe he has finally gotten over his nightmares from being beaten into the ground in Houston.

I disagree and Kaepernick is a guy I am trying to get in all dynasty leagues. I see Josh Freeman in him but maybe even more intangibles. Love what Harbaugh could do with this kid

I agree with Hoyer, Flynn and Chase Daniels.

This one is a longer term project, but I like what I've seen out of Texans rookie TJ Yates so far. I could see him in three or four years having the potential to go find a starting job. Still very much a work in progress though, but he's off to a good start.

Carson Palmer
This is interesting. You think he's got production left in him? What about his decrease in arm strength?
I am surprised to see him dropped in deep leagues (non-IDP leagues with 360 players owned). He's going to be a starting QB again. Probably in a better situation (Cincy has good WRs but is dysfunctional and Palmer performed better last year with Simpson than the elite guys). To regain arm strength he needs surgery or rest, so a long hiatus may help him. No guarantee but there is an argument there it will help. I don't expect him to be a top 5 QB again, but he should put up at least 2 more top 15 years. And compared to some of these other guys, that is value.
