Probably another year of having him questionable for at least half the Giant's games. I love having him at TE but damn if it isn't frustrating when he is always banged up.
It's starting to look like it's going to be a long, painful season for Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey.
Since the season opened, Shockey has been battling a sprained right ankle. He aggravated the injury late in the Giants' stirring comeback in Philadelphia and didn't play at all in overtime. For Shockey to miss playing overtime against the Eagles reveals how much discomfort the tight end must be experiencing.
But it was evident in the way he limped out of the locker room. Shockey might be able to play in Seattle, but he is not going to be anywhere near full strength, nor might he be for anytime in the near future.
This development is maddening for Shockey, who has talked about the pain he played through last season with a broken sternum and separated shoulder. The year before, Shocked played with a stress fracture in his back. And in 2003, Shockey had all kinds of knee problems.
Just this past summer, Shockey talked about how much he looked forward to being healthy this season, feeling like himself. Now it looks like it's going to be more of the same
I don't think he sees the field this week honestly. Their bye is in week 4. It would make sense to shut him down this week and have 2 full weeks to rest just in time for a big divisional game at home vs. Wash.
He's really just a semi-decoy now on that bad ankle. You can tell it's more than a one week heal job...he probably could use about a month off of it to be ok, but he won't sit. I want him to sit this week, maybe even longer so he'll last down the stretch. If he keeps this up, he won't be very useful the whole season.
Giants enigmatic tight end Jeremy Shockey was unable to practice today with his swollen ankle, but should be able to play in this weekend's game at Seattle nonetheless. Shockey has been officially listed as probable for the contest and played much of last weekends game in obvious pain.
Our View
Shockey's heart cannot be denied at this juncture. This guy winces each time he grabs a pass from Eli Manning, but he guts it out and plays just the same. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, his production dipped as a result of his ankle. Shockey was only able to catch two passes last Sunday and he may well struggle again while playing a stout Seahawks defense that has only allowed one touchdown through their first two contests and is fourth in the league in fewest yards allowed.
