Anybody else think this was bush league? (1 Viewer)

Bush league all the way. This is the NFL not a college team gettting there freshman some PT.

Karma will come back around.

Did everyone miss Wade's comments about how the Patriot Super Bowl Championships were "tarnished"?

This was a borderline bush league play in a vacuum, but in context it's a big middle finger from Belichick to Phillips.

No, in fact teams should never let up and always try to win by as big as margin as possible. Why? Because one of the playoff tie-breaking schemes comes down to point differential between similar opponents. Although you may never need it, you should score as many points as possible all season long, you never know when you might need those points as a tiebreaker at the end of the year.
I would think that the winner of the Pats Colts game will have more to do with playoff seeding than point differencial.
True, the Pats/Colts game will probably have the biggest impact between those 2 teams, but we are only in week 6 and there are a lot of games left to be played. Also, ALL teams should think this way because almost every year there are a few teams competing for the last playoff spot with point differential being discussed as one of the possible tie-breaking factors. If any of those teams would have went for blowouts instead of just being happy with their lead(s) early in the season, they could control their own destiny, instead, they need to rely on scoring lots of points in the final game of their season. We don't know which teams that could make a difference for right now. We do know if they score as many points as possible they could possibly avoid that situation later.
Who do you have as the top teams in the AFC?? The Colts and the Pats, can anyone else challenge them as the 1 and 2 seed? I don't think so, and they play each other, so the H2H record is what will matter.
So the Pats and Colts should just assume they will finish as the top 2 teams and ignore all other possible scenarios, with 10+ games left to be played? I rank them as the top 2 teams in the conference as well, but that doesn't mean they should get too full of themselves (which I am not accusing them of doing). They are still only 1 game ahead of pittsburgh and jacksonville, and 2 games ahead of a handful of other teams. YOU ARE NOT UNDERSTANDING MY POINT HERE. I am not arguing who the best teams are here, I think we can all agree New Engalnd and Indianapolis are the top 2 teams in the league right now. I am arguing the point that teams should not be ashamed to rack up the points (even if that means scoring another TD or kicking another field goal with 1 second left on the clock when you are already winning 45-0) -- as racking up the points is a valid way of bettering your chances of making the playoffs.
I understand your point perfectly. Yes it is possible that the Colts and the Patriots hit a slump and finish 6-10 on the rest of the year. It's also possible that we will see a Miami-St. Louis Superbowl. It's just very unlikely.

Every Monday evening (except when the Pats have MNF) Belicheck sits in with the evening Boston sports radio station (WEEI). Tonight they asked him if he was trying to run the score up. They pressed him a little bit on it.

He claims that he wasn't running up the score. At that point in the game he always thinks, "what can we do to lose this game". If the Cowboys hadn't taken the timeout, he'd have gone to the knee when he could to run out the clock. The FG wasn't taken because of the off chance it could be blocked and run back for a TD. An onside kick and a hail mary later and we're in OT. According to him, the least risky thing to do was exactly what they did. He also mentioned that if you check out the replay, you'll see Brady following the back into the hole just in case the ball does pop out to lower the risk that the other team recovers the fumble.

I agree with him. They could go undefeated and win the Superbowl and it still wont untarnish the other ones. So if their focus is to prove everyone wrong it wont prove anything except they were the best team in 07.. Whats done is done..everyone has to deal with it and let it go.

It will be let go provided that concepts including the fact that Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer have freely admitted to videotaping are included in discussions of league history. I could provide you with additional commentary about the ways in which each of the past 5 major dynasties is tarnished, but the Johnson / Switzer example is one of the most vivid, and this has been discussed ad nauseum in prior threads.

You make the mistake of thinking Belichik is a classy coach, which by the admission of everyone on earth, he isn't.Of course it's bush league, but it doesn't matter. The Patriots are the cocks-of-the-walk right now. But to win the Super Bowl they will likely have to beat Jax or Ten at home, beat Indy (home or away), and then beat the Cowboys on a neutral field. If they win the SUper Bowl this year, it will be well-deserved through quite a gauntlet.I just like how a cheater like Rodney Harrison derives so much satisfaction out of doing nothing more then getting run over a few times by Marion Barber. Good studd.

I'm a Titans fan, frankly. I'm much more miffed at them losing today then the Cowboys. I think a few things about the NE/Dal game...1. New England was clearly the better team.2. A late TD or a 1 point win, it looks the same in the standings.3. Rodney Harrison is a cheater4. The Cowboys were the 2nd best team on that field, but they shot themselves in the foot plenty w/ penalties.
"2. A late TD or a 1 point win, it looks the same in the standings."Technically speaking, I believe one tiebreaker goes into total points and/or margin of win over common opponents. It's not like the BCS where you need to wow everyone every week... but maybe that's the technicality they get away with it.I recall Marty putting LT in a few times with a 21+ pt lead last year in the 4th qtr, when they had a very capable Michael Turner... so LT could get a 4th TD, or for whatever reason. Not that I wish injury on the player... but a snapped femur woulda put an end to that sorta behavior across the league.

Two-Minute Warning

1-9-DAL 9 (1:54) 33-K.Faulk right tackle to DAL 6 for 3 yards (96-M.Spears).

Timeout #3 by DAL at 01:48.

2-6-DAL 6 (1:43) 38-K.Eckel up the middle to DAL 5 for 1 yard (99-C.Canty).

3-5-DAL 5 (1:09) 38-K.Eckel left tackle to DAL 1 for 4 yards (31-R.Williams).

4-1-DAL 1 (:23) 38-K.Eckel right tackle for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN

BB did what any HC should do in that situation once Philips called the timeout; he ran out the clock with his 5th string running back. If Philips doesn't call the timeout NE takes a knee. But Philips called the timeout so the game isn't over and NE has to run the ball, kick the ball or just hand it to Dallas.
