Anyone considering Benching their Colts this week. (1 Viewer)

The Colts have 2nd place locked up... so theres really no point for their key players to finish games... Manning, Addai, Wayne, & Clark owner may want too consider other options.

All the straters (except Harrison) will play the entire game as usual barring a blowout this weekend.

Herm said this earlier this week.

Peyton doesn't want to sit, and he feels he needs more work with guys like Utecht and Gonzalez. Plus this is a divisional home game, and Herm doesn't like to lose those. Most likely the rest will come mext week when the face Tennessee.

From Fanball:

Colts: Regulars will play in Week 16

12/18/07 11:17 AM

Colts coach Tony Dungy told the Indianapolis Star that he plans to use his regulars "like we normally would" this week against the Texans, though he may take a more conservative approach in Week 17. "I think it is important," Dungy told the Star. "We've got some guys who do need to play, and we need to continue to get sharper. That's my thought right now—that we'll get those guys a lot of playing time, at least this week."

Our View

Sounds as if you'll be safe with Peyton Manning, Joseph Addai, and Reggie Wayne in your fantasy lineup this week. And if your league plays its title game in Week 17… well, don't bank on your Colts—and don't say we didn't warn you.

i thought the colts already learned their lesson about resting players heading into the playoffs.i'm sure they'll take their cue from the nazi war machine and at least let them roll until both games are decided.

I think you have the wrong coach... but thanks for the info

I feel like the only player at risk of not playing a "full load" is Addai... his production has noticeably diminished as the long season has worn on, and I wouldn't be shocked to see him get minimal carries in the second half. The Colts know they have a capable runner in Kenton Keith, so why wear down their #1 RB too much in a meaningless game? I feel like Addai gets 15 total touches max. His usefulness will greatly depend on lucky goal-line TDs.

ESPN's Scott Engel said in his chat yesterday to bench your Colts if you have a good alternative because he read something that makes him feel Dungy is not going to play his starters a full game.

ESPN's Eric Karabell says in his chat this morning, he sees no reason to bench your Colt players (although he's slightly concerned about Addai), they will play a full game.

This is why I hate owning Colts players, especially the RBs. I've owned the Colts RB for the past 5 years straight (I had Edge from 2003 - 2005, and Addai the past two yrs), and althought they give you great production during the regular fantasy season, the fact that they've always locked up their division early means their RBs are useless in the fantasy Super Bowl. :bs:

Id be shocked to see a Clark Owner still standing. A combined 2 for 24 in the playoffs

Addai had 100 yards rushing against the Texans Week 16 last year. Can't remember whether there was anything at stake.

However, Rhodes, who at that time was "the starter," only had 3 touches for 21 yards.

Got a very bad feeling about this . . .

Right Here  I believe he will be hitting my BN this weekend.

Well, I am leaning towards starting Jamal Lewis this week in place of Addai. My other RB is Westbrook, and he WILL NOT be riding the bench.

I tried and tried to trade Jamal Lewis and Greg Jennings before the trade deadline. Was even offering both for a top TE and nobody wanted them. So they have been riding my bench and I'm stuck starting Randy McMichael at TE

Thismay be my chance to show off Jamal Lewis. Can't wait to get the emails saying that Im crazy:)

Lewis is a great start this week. You'll probably end up grateful that no one took him off your hands. For me, it's Addai or Lynch . . .

Still standing but barely (i.e., no thanks to Clark). I don't have a lot of "better" alternatives on the waiver wire and besides, Houston is one of the worst defenses defending against TEs. As bad as Clark's numbers have been, I'm definitely starting him vs Houston.

I have a stable of Addai, MBIII, Maroney and Alexander. I am not going to overthink this one.

I'm going with Addai and MBIII.

Sorry I don't have a link but in yesterday's Orlando Sentinel there was a blurb about Dungy telling Peyton on the plane ride back from Oakland that he would play all his starters as usual this week,Manning had been lobbying him to do this because he said he wanted more time to work with the "new" starters, specifically Gonzalez. Dungy said the final game would be different, but not this week. He said given they had the bye to rest people this week would be three weeks without full game action and that was too much, two weeks is plenty of time to rest nagging injuries. I'm starting my Colts with confidence.

I think the only Colts starter I'd be careful about is Addai. I think he'll play some, but I think they need to give him some rest more than any of the other offensive starters, so I think Keith will get a lot of playing time this week.

I have some serious doubt about playing Clark this week

I have Addai, Willie and Fred T.

Normally I would play Addai without hesistation but I have convinced myself that while he will play this weekend, he is not going to have his normal amount of touches. I think he and Keith will split almost 60-40 this week in favor of Addai.

So I may be shooting myself in the head but I am sitting Addai and praying that some one can point out the end zone to Willie this week.

Nope. Here's why:1) Peyton Manning says he would like to use these last two games to develop a greater rapport with his young WR's and that is critical for their playof success2) Tony Dungy said the Colts are approaching this like a regular game and will not be benching starters3) I believe the Colts learned their lesson on benching starters too early two years agoI own Manning and Wayne and am starting both with 100% confidence.
I also have Wayne but am concerned by the first statement. Does this mean Manning is going to force the issue with the young WR's? What does that mean to Wayne [a WR he does not need to build a rapport with]?

And what does that mean for Addai? This is a partial quote from RTSports, regarding the Indy running game:
Dungy doesn't see any indication Addai needs a break. When asked whether Addai was wearing down, Dungy said: ``Not at all, not at all.''Yet during Bill Polian's weekly radio show Monday night, the team president acknowledged Addai could be one of the players who sees limited work Sunday against Houston; the Colts have wrapped up the AFC's No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.``Will Peyton play the whole time? I'd guess not, but he'll play,'' Polian said. ``Will Joe play the whole time? I'd guess not, but we'll see.''The bigger question is what the Colts must do to get back on track. While Dungy believes things will eventually work out, Saturday is more focused on making sure the offensive line plays better before postseason play begins.``I think if you look at it, there's not been a lot of continuity fitting into one game,'' he said. ``Joe's got to get his reads off of us, so we've got to work on that the next couple of weeks.''

Yikes, Polian's comments dont make me feel good about starting Addai. And of course Dungy is gonna say that. You expect him to insult Addai by saying he needs a rest?

Can we trust that Dungy is going to give the public the ENTIRE story? Since week #7 (I think) he's been saying that Marvin may play, if he can go, etc........I'm still up in the air on whether to go with Wayne or not but I'm not basing my decision on Dungy's word alone.

What a nightmare to get all the way to the end of the season and face this question mark about them playing more than a half of football. I have Manning, Wayne and Clark on my team in the Fantasy Super Bowl.

I'm going with Chris Cooley for sure over Clark, but I have no option besides Wayne at WR.

Now it boils down to benching Peyton Manning for Derek Anderson.

Ugh.

This sucks.

Colts coach Tony Dungy suggested this week that he might substitute some second-team players in for starters against Houston on Sunday.

"I envision some guys playing the whole game – other guys getting rest," he said. "I don’t think it will be just wholesale substitutions, ‘OK, this unit’s out.’ But we want to get some guys in there in the heat of battle with guys they may be playing with in the playoffs." The Colts also say their main goal is to go 14-2. Dungy also indicated that the players who practiced this week will face Houston. The Indianapolis media hasn't made a big issue of the situation, so we'd have a hard time benching any Colts a fantasy league.

uh no

Yeah, this quote has officially made me nervous about starting Peyton this week...

You have no idea how bad I want to sit reggie wayne for AJ. I can see a 3-47 type of game for reggie and playing only a half.

My thoughts exactly. If Manning is wanting to iron some wrinkles out with Gonzo will he even LOOK Wayne's way? I wish Dungy would just come out and say he's sitting so and so. Damn.

I am also starting JAM this week over Addai!!

Don't the Texans usually play IND tough? Houston's DEF is looking alot better. Sage will throw all day. Aren't IND still going to try to win?

This thread gets more and more depressing, but we've had the head coach say "I am not sitting my starters" and "The guys that practiced this week will play." There's also the bad history they've had giving the starters too much time off and blowing it in the playoffs. It will be a full month before they play again. Additionally, they are just NOW starting to gel these last couple of weeks after losing two bad games...alot of that is probably because AGonzo is finally in the mix as a #2.

As in any game, if they are way up, the starters might sit. HOU's secondary is banged up, so Wayne and A.Gonzo are probably decent starts even if they play 3 quarters. They each had 8 looks last week. We might see Gonzo get more looks late, which is why I think he's a better start than SSmith, Cotchery, etc. (alot of that has to do with my basic tie breakers: 1. the WR with a better QB and 2. the offense with most potential for points).

Anyways...RB might be a different situation. 25 carries for Addai in a game that 'really' doesn't matter? Probably not.

I have Wayne, TO, Moss as my starting 3 and have been worried about Wayne both because I think given they are so thin at WR Dungy is likely to bench Wayne in the late 3rd/4th quarter...plus its likely Indy will be ahead.

My #4 WR is Brandon Marshall...the more I read the more lost I get on what to do with Wayne(esp since he has sucked balls vs. Hou)

Dallas Clark has only caught one pass in the last 2 games... wonder if Manning will try to force the ball alittle more to him to rebuild their relationship?

You and I are in similar situations. I am thinking about replacing Wayne with AJ while you have Marshall. I don't this isn't a case of over thinking or trying to get "cute" in the championship game. Its not like we are trying to replace Wayne with D Bowe or someone like that. We both have legitimate WR's to step in Waynes place. I just talked myself into AJ.

It's probably fair to think that Manning and the 1st-string WRs will play into the 3rd quarter. The thing you have to realize is that even in a little over two quarters, chances are you are going to get better numbers out of these guys than you will with MANY players on other teams who play a full game. I have no feel for how long Addai will play.

I pretty much called this game exactly :censored: ie only Colt I was worried about was Addai
 I played Clark and Wayne today... 60+ pts from the 2 of them
SURE you did...
