Nice fish! Its been Red Snapper season the last two weekends here on the FL East Coast. This is the first viable season we've had in about 7 years. Had a good weekend last weekend but yesterday got a really good one. 32", 16# Snapper. Most boats were running out to 100' + water at 20-25 miles but we got him in 80' of water just 9 miles off.

Delicious
With all due respect, you suck.Gotta love Florida. While everyone else is freezing. We can do this without getting a chill. Got a mess of speck today.

Got a couple small ones on the docks last weekend. Botched offshore trip so we dicked around in the river and fed the Pelicans blues and pins. Man, I love me some Sheephead. Black Drum, too. Maybe I'll get out this weekend.Man, I haven't fished since July when I last took my kayak out. Gotta get back into it soon...with Snook, Reds, and now Grouper closed it's time to target some Sheepehead. Gonna try to make it out next week.
Booked a charter out of Homosassa for early March. Can't wait gonna get me some Reds and hopefully a Gator trout or two.Got a couple small ones on the docks last weekend. Any tips on NOT catching saltwater catfish?Fishing on the Sanibel Causeway and got stuck by a catfish barb for the first time ever. Doesn't feel very pleasant.
https://www.northplatteflyfishing.com/fishing-guide/fishing-destinations/miracle-mile-fishing/Hey guys. Maybe you can help with a dilemma my wife and I have been wrestling with for a few weeks. I'm going to be 50 this year, as is one of my closest friends, who I went to college with. A third close friend is also a pal from college. We have stayed friends all these years. One guy's family has a house in Montauk and we used to drive from upstate New York to Montauk, just to fish for cod for one day!. When younger, we spent many a weekend in the surf of Montauk chasing strippers. Since then, we do 2 off shore trips out of Montauk every year, one shark tourney and one 2 day tuna trip. My third pal coordinated a trip to Panama for his 50th last year. It was fun, but a little TOO much fishing for me. Up at the crack of dawn and fishing all day, literally for 5 straight days. Caught a ton, but for my 50th and the other guy's, we're looking to do something different.
I have always dreamed of staying in a cabin in the woods and having a guide take me out fishing in fast rivers in the mountains somewhere. I was very surprised when I started looking around and while there are tons of guided trips all over the country, they all seem to be fly fishing. I've been surfcasting with a spinning reel forever and have never picked up a fly reel. All our offshore fishing is big game. I have no desire to try and learn to fly fish now, I can barely fish with a spinning reel and I've been doing it for 35 years!
So, I'm looking for a fishing experience in the mountains somewhere where a guide can take us out, fish all day on spinning tackle and then come back to a cabin or whatever and drink beer by a fire before getting up to do again the next few days. And Alaska or probably even the pacific northwest is probably too expensive. I want to go into the mountains, kind of like an episode of River Monsters. Any ideas?
Part of the deal if you're inshore fishing in FL. They get worse around dusk and they are more likely to hit a stagnant bait. The gafftop sailcats are actually good eating but super slimy. Never used them for bait...pinfish, on the other hand, are great bait.Any tips on NOT catching saltwater catfish?
Should I just cut one up and use it for bait? Do they eat their own kind?
@Wingnut
8lbs the one i missed today was probably close to 10 at least it sure looked that way.what is the biggest largemouth you ever caught rusty i got one back in the 80s that was 23 and a half inches that is a total whopper for wisconsin i could not step on it hard enough to get 24 i guess hey brohan nice fish take that to the bank
I fished about 3 weeks ago here in KC. My wife's company moved into this business complex, and they have these two beautiful ponds on there that rarely get fished. Me and my son went out and caught 11 bass - mostly in the 1.5 - 2# range. And the water here is still pretty cold.Hawkeye21 said:Anyone been out bass fishing lately? I had my big tourney down in Shreveport two weeks ago and it was extremely tough. Managed to catch a few nice ones but that's about it. Being back here in Iowa I'm stuck with crappy weather again. It was gorgeous last weekend and I got out once and was able to catch two but doesn't look like I'll be getting out again soon. I might try going Saturday morning but it's going to be 32 degrees when I go with a possibility of warming up into the 40s.
Love fishing ponds like that. I really want to get out tomorrow but 30's and windy doesn't look too appealing. Water temps were in the mid 50s last weekend but I'm sure they have dropped into the 40s again.I fished about 3 weeks ago here in KC. Looking forward to hitting that pond up here in a couple of weeks as the water temps rise.
Nice Drums. One of my favorite fish.Pretty good day surf fishing this past weekend in VA. Caught black drum, striped bass, dogfish, sharks, rays, skates and a couple spiny boxfish.![]()
VA recently ordered an emergency moratorium on Striped Bass, so this was our first time keeping Black Drum. I had heard the bigger ones can get wormy, but these were all pretty good. Only one fish (out of the 8 we kept) had worms.Nice Drums. One of my favorite fish.

Yep, he thought he had a big smallie.I did catch a softshell turtle earlier that day so we were wondering about that or a catfish. Quite a fight.

Wow. Great memories of that lake as a kid. We had a cabin there. All the way at the North of the lake almost into the National forest. Tons of Pike, Bass, Bluegill, and my favorite were the beer bottle Perch. Tight lines!Headed to Michigan for a nice week of fishing and family fun. Hamlin Lake is usually pretty solid for bass, rock bass, & northerns. There’s walleye, bluegill, etc., but it’s not what I usually catch. Free fishing weekend coming up for those without a license.
Yeah, they're good up to about 15-20 pounds then they can get a bit wormy. We get big schools of them offshore here in the fall and they are all 50+ pounds.VA recently ordered an emergency moratorium on Striped Bass, so this was our first time keeping Black Drum. I vacuum sealed 4 gallon ziplock bags of fillets last night when I got home. Couldnt resist cooking one up while I was at it. Sauteed it in a little butter with S&P and a squeeze of lime. Doesn't get much fresher. Less than 24 hours earlier it was swimming in the ocean. So good.
Originally from Michigan myself. My wife’s family and others rent cabins on the south end every spring/summer. Great fishing! North side has some of the best pike and bass for sure.Wow. I haven't heard that name in about 30 years. Great summer memories. Mackinaw Island Fudge was my favorite flavor. I only ever spent summers there but my family goes back a couple generations in a little town east of Ludington called Custer.Originally from Michigan myself. Im sure you stopped into House of Flavors as a kid too, no?
