The man whom Bucs coach Raheem Morris described last year as a "wild child" lived up to his reputation early Thursday, hours after the team broke camp for the year.
Cornerback Aqib Talib, a first-round pick in 2008 whom many teams regarded as someone who should be avoided, was arrested shortly before 1:00 a.m. ET for battery and resisting arrest, according to the Tampa Tribune.
The arrest came in Pinellas County by Florida Highway Patrol troopers. He was released on $300 bail at 6:00 a.m. (Here's the page from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.)
Talib had repeated issues with marijuana while playing college football at Kansas, and we heard from several sources in the weeks prior to the 2008 draft that the coaching staff was not saying good things about him to NFL scouts.
Last year, Talib got into a fight with former teammate Corey Boyd at the Rookie Symposium, and Talib was fined "heavily and repeatedly" for violating team rules.
As one source told us last summer, "Trouble just follows Talib. . . . He can't help himself, and it's never his fault."
Earlier this year, Talib got into a scuffle with Donald Penn, and Talib the always-wise decision to remove his helmet and swing it like a weapon. The helmet struck teammate Torrie Cox, cutting his face. Coach Raheem Morris continued what can only be described as a pattern of enabling and emboldening Talib, offering up an excuse for Talib's actions.
"Anytime you play this violent of a game, you're always going to have some type of controlling your emotions issues,'' Morris said at the time. "I've got my own controlling my emotions issues. That's when the coach steps in and helps him and he has to grow from it, he has to learn."
At some point, Coach, the time for learning ends. Indeed, at some point, the time comes to conclude that he's never going to learn.
