Aquaman movie (1 Viewer)

Thank you.
I couldn't help but :lmao:  when he appeared on screen. It completely takes you right out of a big budget explod-o-rama and puts you right in the middle of an episode of Super Friends.

This is where Marvel dominates. They take a deep dive into how their comic designs will translate to the big screen and if it would look stupid they opt for something better and ask the fans to understand. Even though it was Sony and not Marvel, the first X-Men film set that tone when Wolverine said something sarcastic like "Nice costumes." And Cyclops responded "Would you prefer yellow spandex?" That let the audiences know that some things, like Wolverines comic book costume, just won't work on the big screen so let's accept it and move on.

I guess Aquaman was still better than any other DCEU film other than Wonder Woman and Shazam!, which IMO is their best film to date, but it wasn't really that good. Actually Man of Steel was probably better as well. It seems like DC is getting some "Well, at least it wasn't a Batman v Superman crapfest. " forgiveness from fans and media.

The greatest lines of any superhero movie happen in that movie.  When Cyclops says something like, "Wait.  How do we know you're the real Wolverine?"

And Jackman goes, "Uhh... you're a Richard?"

And Cyclops lowers his hand from his visor and says, "Ok.  That's him."

:lmao:

I know I'm not perfect on the exact lines, but that cracked me up.  Totally wasn't expecting a superhero to curse.

Totally agree. Best super hero line ever.

Seriously?  This seems like the superhero version of Big.
On many levels it is, but it is also not what the trailers let you think it is. I personally would not bring kids under maybe 12-13 to see it (there are a couple very dark scenes).

I liked Wonder Woman, but IMO Shazam! is the first objectively good DCEU film. It doesn't require context to be good, unlike other DC films.

WW gets elevated because...well Gal Gadot and it was the first film after DC pivoted away from Snyder's garbage. I think Man of Steel would have been viewed much more favorably as well had it come out after BM v SM (that sounds dirty), which doesn't make sense for continuity but it would change how the films were accepted.

I think everyone expected Aquaman to be total #### and when it was meh, people took that as a good sign.

The Happening is the worst movie ever.  Aquaman didn’t suck like other DC movies, so it’s got that going for it.  Someone above compared Aquaman to Thor and I think that’s a good comparison.  Thor: Ragnarok sucked, but it was still fun.  Aquaman sucked, but it wasn’t as bad as Batman v Superman.  I think they’d have been better off having the first Aquaman stand alone with a plot where he saves humans and then do an origin movie later.

It's ridiculous how people continue to feel their opinion is right and yours is wrong. Childish actually.

Ragnarok sucked???

This isn't Pismo Beach, you must have taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

In this thread I've seen Ragnorak sucks, Batman Vs. Superman is better than Aquaman and Aquaman was abysmal. All of this is completely wrong.

I was kinda disappointed.  My hopes were raised based on the decent reviews, but I didn't think it was particularly better than Justice League or even SvB. Certainly not as good as Wonder Woman.

Compelling argument.
We're disagreeing over opinions. Should I have gone with "You're wrong because you're an idiot." I disagree with the people that posted those opinions and those people disagree with me. That's OK. Better to just say I disagree than spend page upon page convincing nobody of anything. Or you know you could to the opposite and delve into the PSF. I choose to stay above the fray.

One thing I forgot to mention for me about this movie was that I went in pretty much knowing nothing about the movie.  I knew the main guy was Aquaman and that was about it.  When the movie started, and his dad met him mom, my first thought was, "Damn.  That chick looks like a young Nicole Kidman."

So I had to laugh when Nicole Kidman actually showed up in the movie as her, but older.

Excellent job by whoever did the casting for his young mom.

Please, please tell me you're not serious.

Edit: Check that. Please, please tell me you ARE serious. :lmao:

Wait.  Why?  Did I say something stupid?  If I said something stupid, I was totally kidding around.  Obviously.  I'm not that dumb.
It's ALL Kidman, bro. They used CGI to "de-age" her.

Also, that's not Peter Cushing or Carrie Fisher in Rogue One, FYI.

This is basically where I came out. There were stretches of Aquaman that were fun and didn’t take itself too seriously, but so much of this movie was a hot mess like most of the other DC movies. The previously mentioned Manta suit was silly, but the supposedly emotional reunion scene toward the end where one of the main characters is wearing half a rubber monster costume was even more so, and had me questioning whether the movie was in on the joke or not.

Yeah, this one falls in the "It's not terrible because it's not Batman v Superman even though, in reality it's objectively terrible."

Shazam! Is really the only Snyder era DCEU film (ie non-Nolan) that requires no context to be considered a good standalone film. As much as I love Gal Gadot, even WW requires some "squinting forgiveness" to be considered a truly good standalone feature.
