Herein lies the humor.The Bears 3rd string HB gets a jersey but the #4 pick overall who was 'supposed to be vying for the starters job' gets nothing - and he'd better like it.
 
I'm a big Benson fan, and as soon as Jones gets put to boot, we'll see a string of 1500yd seasons.

The problem is that Jones is a locker room hero and the staff tried to give his job away.

Jones earned that respect and his position with the team. He is THE leader of this team on and off the field.And for the record, the staff never "tried" to give his job away. They reacted to a player that was not showing up to practice, period.If the Bears continue to win, don't be surprised if TJ isn't the one that leaves after the season.................Im not saying, I'm just saying...........BTW I like Bensen as a developing player too, but even he understands that TJ is the better back right now. Cedric just wants to contribute any way he can now. If you are referring to Benson's hands, he was a very good pass receiver in college. I think he will be just fine in time, and his time is coming soon to a game near you. If he isn't the starter in 2007 it will be a shame and a mistake by Chicago. I would love to see him traded if Chicago continues to hold him back. Disclaimer; yes, I'm a Benson owner in 4 dynasty leagues :) , and most of the owners in those leagues are FBGs and a lot of them tried to trade for Benson.

That's a very week and invalid statement right there. Go look at LJ and LT2 and see two teams where whoever they face knows they will get the rock over and over and over. If Benson is worth a #4 pick and can only run when a defense is caught off guard, he won't last much longer in the NFL.Everyone knows when LJ is playing that he will be running and still produces.

Not to mention Michael Turner has been just fine in blowouts as well, when the defense knows he will be getting the ball.

Maybe Bensen isnt as good LJ or LT2. Or maybe the run blocking isn't. It is what it is.Michael Turner is another story altogether - best back-up in the league. Really like his combo of speed and power.

I think I'll buy myself an Adrian Peterson jersey now.

 
Bears fans need to stop being so against this guy. Instead of feeling as though they have to throw their allegiance to either Benson or Jones, they should be calling for extra doses of both. If the Bears let these two combine for 40+ carries a game, they might be unbeatable. That defense sure does excel at takeaways. And obviuosly it's time the Bears' coaching staff figures this out as well. Instead of trying to make Grossman into Dan Marino, they should let him hand the ball off 67% of the time and run their offense through those two horses.

I've seen Benson a ton, and he ran with a lot of passion today and looked about as good as I've seen him as a pro.

He must be really, really bad as a blocker and a pass catcher. He looked like a potential difference maker as a runner.

Well I watched the game today and I didnt see Benson miss a block. And furthermore for the whole year out of the 4 or 5 Bears games that I have saw I havent really seen Benson miss any blocks, so I dont know where this "he cant block" crap is coming from.

Also, he looked a lot better than TJ today and that is fact. Benson looked unstoppable in the first half. He was gashing the Pats defense running it right up the gut with power and determination, he ran right over more than a couple Pats defenders and when Seau tryed to tackle those big powerful legs of Benson, Seaus arm snapped in half. Then for some reason they went away from Benson and the run game altogether in the second half. YPC today, TJ-4.3......Benson-4.6. and for the record he has almost 1/3 of the carries TJ has, but yet he has the same amount of TDs....hum.

My favorite was when he barreled through 2 NE linebackers, then trucked the safety and ran another 3 yards before being brought down. It was a quality run for sure.

I'm with you. I have no idea how the Chicago media and fans can declare this guy a bust when he hasn't been given the rock 25 + times a game over the course of the entire season. There simply is no way of knowing what kind of back he is. Jones is a damn good back, who was a top 7 pick and has paid his dues in the NFL and with the Bears. Maybe Benson will bust, but I continue to see good things from him. His rookie year was a waste, the hold out set him back. He's been nicked up and simply hasn't earned it yet with Jones playing at such a high level. I hope he doesn't get run out of town before he has a chance.
 
fwiw i traded t jones a few weeks ago in a couple leagues because every time i see benson it worried me that he was going to take over. imho just from what i have seen he is a better rb running the ball than jones. quicker and more powerfull. there should at least be a 50/50 split in carries between the 2

 
Yes....I am a Benson supported (see the name)

Did you see the game yest? Benson was getting that offense going when others couldn't. Did TJ put up another good stat game? Decent yes....did Benson run over the NE secondary and showed toughness that TJ simply doesn't have....YES!!!

 
I dont think that Benson has a big problem making a block (he's tougher and more physical than Jones). I think he's had trouble learning the playbook and learning to read defensive blitzes. He's mentally quite slow. Benson may never be an every down back but he's going to be a good starting NFL RB sooner or later. I think it could have happened this year had he not gotten hurt in camp. We see the Bears giving Benson plenty of carries in relief of Jones. I think they still feel good about Benson as their future. Right now though, they are a serious contender for the Superbowl with Jones as the starter. They dont want to hurt anyone's ego or cause any contraversy right now.

The Adrian Peterson jersey is funny but Benson is still the man.

Yeah, but none of that really means as much as the fact that Thomas Jones is a part-time school crossing guard, delivers meals to the elderly, devises counter-insurgency tactics for the US ARMY, advises the Pope on Christian-Islamic relations and out paces Benson's jersey sales 100-to-1.

Actually this is a very weAk argument. LJ and KJ are some of the best pass catching RB's in the league. It is not a guarantee that these guys will be running the ball when they are in there. LT had 100 catches 1 year and has 48 on the year so far. LJ has 30 on the year so far. That's part of what makes these two guys so dangerous is that they can beat you in a number of different ways (including LT tossing the rock as he did yesterday).
 
Bump. Funny how much things can change in a 10 day period. Bensons bandwagon is filling up really fast now.

 
You think we will see anymore "this is my team" remarks from TJ? It may very well still be his job, but it sure as hell isn't as secure as it was a few weeks ago.

Things changed with his blocking and its putting him in a better position to succeed. Probably earning him more PT also.Honestly, it was like a light just went on a couple of weeks ago. He's been doing really good work.TJ is still starting though.
