I know that most of the nation hates the NE Patriots, but I am wondering how many of you out there can put your hate aside for even a moment and appreciate this team for the talented competitors that they are. When NE came back and won that game last night I couldn't help but think about Maximus and that great line from Gladiator.

Down 12 on the road in the 3rd quarter, NY KO return td, td at the end of the half, 3rd quarter opening score; I began thinking about just how difficult it is to win every game. It was abvious how hard and how well the Giants were playing (I tip my cap to them) and how this just wasn't going to be NEs night.

But NE came through, like they almost always do and I am just amazed at how tuff and resilent this team is, week after week, after week......

I know you all hate em, but isn't it good to have a villain? Isn't that what you want? We all know that Maximus died and NE will lose eventually, either this year or next. How many of you now can make a single post in a thread and acknowledge them for the terrific team that they are without also making a derogatory comment?

Just under the wire but this is without doubt the classic line of 2007. Well done.J

i've always thought they deserve more credit. for the 72'fins they didn't have to deal with the cap and Free Agency. back in the day teams could stack there roster and spend what they wanted. the great teams of past decades had so much talent and talented depth it wasn't funny. the league is setup for this sort of thing shouldn't/can't happen now and somehow for this season the Pats did the impossible. they beat all comers playing i think one of the toughest SOS this year

While not a Pats fan, I very much respect the quality of the talent. and enjoyed their four month win-them-all experiance.

In my mind, they are equal to the excellent 15-1 86 Vikings (Cunningham, RSmith, Moss, Carter, upset in NFC Champ game to ATL) and 15-1 84 49ers (Bill Walsh's best team. Led Montana, Tyler, tough defense in the league. Whipped Miami 38-16 in Superbowl XIX). I only see one team BETTER thasn these 07 Pats, the 1968 13-1 Colts that were upset by the Jets.

Thank you for entertaining me, Patriots.

I'm not a BB fan at all, mostly for his game playing (lying) on the injury report, but one silver lining for me if the Pats go undefeated is to knock the Dolphins team from their undeserved lofty perch. Unlike the Pats this year, the Dolphins had a very easy schedule in 1972. You can check it out. In fact, they were so lightly regarded even after the 16-0 start that they were the underdogs in the Super Bowl, I think by 6 points but I could be wrong about the exact figure.

2007 Patriots = good for football

Thanks to the organization for setting the bar higher and challenging the other 31 organizations to raise their level. Among other things, they have helped push the conventional wisdom farther away from the conservative school of thought that plagues the game and we will enjoy the effects of that move for a long time.

If the Raiders front office didn't trade the 2nd best WR of all time to the Patriots (of all teams) for a 4th rounder the Patriots would be 11-5 entering the playoffs. So with that in mind, good job Raiders.

Was an enjoyable ride.

Wanted them to win some; wanted them to lose some.

In the end, it was special to watch the way they were able to match-up with each opponent (for none are exactly alike).

My hats off to them.

I love what the Pats are doing. I love that they'll hopefully shut up those '72 Fins forever. And most of all I love how BB would keep his starters in and run up the scores when games were out of hand. Awesome F-U to everyone after the camera scandal.

I am entertained! :pokey:

Really Sigmund? How are they different from any other team that's dominated?Do the huge fines for cheating not have an effect there as well?J

1972- Miami team didn't cheat did they. Point only one team went without a lose thru the season.Well now two.

The Pats have dominated by being aggressive and risk-taking and they have forced their opponents to do the same. I believe this makes for an entertaining brand of football. At the very least they are helping stretch the conventional wisdom on when you go for it on 4th down, and I thank them for that.

I was so pulling for the Pats the year they beat the Rams. What a great underdog story...and still liked them afterwards as they were less about the individuals and more about the "Team". Now that was good for football.

However, this year, although I do appreciate the talent and execution, I can't seperate that from them getting caught cheating and moreso, how they handled the situation after the fact ("revenge" for a wrong doing?? wtf?). I know you'll argue it (the cheating) had no influence on what they had accomplished or were about to do, but you have to admit, we'll never really know for sure (thanks NFL)...and that bothers me. On top of that, there really were classless acts (that this team used to not be associated) by Wilfork (x2), Vrabel and Harrison... all which leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

So, basically, I was entertained last night until the 4th quarter

Now don't flame me ...its how I feel

Seems like everyone hates a winner. People hate Tiger Woods. People hate the Patriots.I am not a Patriots fan, but over the past year I have been very intrigued with what makes them tick. So, I set out to read every book out there about them (Patriot Reign, Education of A Coach, Management Secrets of the NE Patriots Vol 1 & 2, etc., etc.,). After reading all the books, All I can say is WOW! They are a first rate organization top to bottom and there are very good reasons why they do what they do. I have all the respect in the world for them.

Seriously? We're still on the 'cheating' that had absolutely nothing to do with any win this season? I really can't believe that it's anything but sour grapes.

I admire BB and the players...organization, etc.

It is the absolute arrogance from the fanbase that causes me to root against them. If their fans knew how to be a little classier and humble in victory I would be all for them.

Not a Pats fan but I am hoping they win the Superbowl this year with the perfect season. Overall they are a classy organization, seems like any player that was a trouble maker else where cleans up his act when playing with the Pats, that says a lot especially as I am a Moss fan even through the bad times so it is great to see how he is behaving in NE.

Also, I am disappointed to see how the '72 Dolphins seem to be reacting to another team potentially having a perfect season. If the Pats do it, it doesn't take away from that Dolphin's team accomplishment, yet they seem to be very bitter that another team may have a perfect season and are showing just how little class they have.

No offense, but what do all of these cliches really mean? Challenging the other organizations to raise their level? The other teams weren't trying to win all of their games? What was the conventional wisdom that was so conservative? Were teams not trying to go for records, and that's why the Patriots came and took them? Is the game really plagued by this school of thought? All a team can do is win their games. That's what the Patriots did, and they deserve all the credit for doing it. But their accomplishment doesn't do much for the other 31 teams. All of them want to keep their well-paying jobs and win their games. All of the Patritos' playoff opponents will go into the game determined to win and thinking they can do it. They won, they earned their wins and they deserve the credit. But challenging teams and pushing conventional wisdom? Sorry, but this sounds like generic speechtalk that would fit in Iowa right now.

Anyone who doesn't respect Tom Brady is a hypocrite, but you're right. The fans are almost as bad as the haters. Seriously, 6th round QB who wasn't even the most sought after QB on his own team behind that flake who tried and failed baseball being the limelight queen, came in and through hard work and diligence became the best QB of all time (ok, maybe not yet, but he certainly is in the conversation), what's not to admire and maybe even like? He and blue collar grey-hooded-sweatshirt man are the face of the franchise and the owner is one of the best.

Haters = jealous, that is all.

You couldn't even start this one off correctly. I highly doubt that most of the nation or even most of the members of this board hate the Patriots. People who enjoy football, also tend to enjoy seeing it played well, as this year's group of Patriots obviously does. The thing that everyone hates (which occasionally causes them to root against the Patriots) are the Patriots fans. It 's hard to imagine a group of people who deserve a fine franchise like this less than they do. The players themselves handle themselves in a pretty classy fashion overall. Why can't their fans follow suit?

If the "conventional wisdom" is that the NFL = parity, they challenged it and won. Aside from that, I agree.

not a hater at all, but 16-0 doesn't mean a thing unless it goes to 19-0.

two other teams went undefeated during the regular season (1934 & 1942 I believe) only to lose the NFL Championship Game.

no one remembers them at all.

If the Giants would have one, I would have been extremely entertained. I don't have much against NE, but I despise BB. That could change in the future. I despised Moss as well, but he's cleaned his act up enough to where I could almost tolerate him this year.

Sorry, but this is simply not true. Tiger Woods is the most liked golfer in the world. When the Bulls were becoming the greatest basketball team of all time in the 90s, sure some of the fans of other teams hated them, but for the most part loved them as well(due to Jordan). I think it is the attitude that this team has this year that makes them hated. They've been so smug and so arrogant (an attitude that has passed on to their fans), that they've become far worse than the Yankees of baseball and their fans are pushing Yankee fans for the worst in all sports.

People hate the Patriots only because of the arrogance of its coach, but no denying they have the appeal of Jordan and the Bulls otherwise.

.

I did notice something during the second half of the season...... teams could not beat them regardless of play calling or valiant efforts, (see Eagles, Ravens, Giants), the talent level on both sides of the ball was just too much for them.

The Eagles and Ravens were almost flawless but because of the Pat's always making a play right when it counted, it became an impossible task.

Great season and one that wont be seen again for a long long time.

From a marketing standpoint, these Patriots are the best thing to happen to the NFL in years. Its like pro wrestling. Why was WCW so hot in the 1990s? Because Hollywood Hulk Hogan was the evil unstoppable heel cheating to win, but holding onto the heavyweight strap and taunting everyone about it. It was the CHASE - Sting's chase of that title - that had everyone glued. But you need the evil monster heel with the belt to make it work. And you've had all the trimmings, complete with foreign objects like secret cameras and allegations of refs in their pocket. They should have Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko calling the action.

These Patriots are like Hogan. And they become must-see TV because everyone wants to see the heavyweight bout where they finally lose.

Can you point out some of their smug and arrogant actions that turned you off? I think it's more of their success has made them seem smug and arrogant. When I watch the Yankees I get the same feeling. They seem so smug and arrogant. But it's really because, aside from the last couple of years, they just keep winning and it's really just jealousy on my part. Thus when you see a fan simply even wearing their hat you think of them as lovers of arrogant, smug people which makes them the same.

Seeing that I live in MA, all my friends are Pats fans. And none of them are smug or arrogant. Nobody I know personally who are Pats fans are smug or arrogant. They are decent people with families, jobs and other interests. Guess what? Sometimes we Pats fans can even have a conversation about how we don't want to face Jacksonville or that we think the defense might hurt us in the end. Their are even times when I see my family or friends and the Pats don't even come up.

I'm just getting so so tired of hearing about the Pat's fans are this and the Pat's fans are that. It makes me not even want to come into the Shark Pool anymore. Even in threads which are based on just love for the Pats, people have to come in and name call like a bunch of 10 year olds. It really offends me when someone says Pat's fans are arrogant and smug because I am one. So you and others are calling me arrogant and smug.

I ask that people refrain from calling out all Pats fans and please point out the couple of posters who are really getting you all riled up.

Toxic waste?

I watched Jordan beat my CAVS over and over again in the playoffs. I still admired Jordan and the team because they won with class.

I don't watch golf because I think its pretty much boring to watch on TV, but I still admire Woods because he wins with class.

I admired Mike Tyson when he was managed by Cus D'Amato because he won with class, I despised him later when managed by Don King for obvious reasons.

I'll despise Michael Vick, if he ever comes back. I despise Pac-Man. I continue to admire guys like Tony Dungy and John Lynch. I admire Tom Brady. I admire Seymour and Bruschi. I admired Pittsburgh through the 80's, because even though they were rivals, they won with class and we could always count on them for a tough game. Their fans have pretty much destroyed that admiration in recent times, but I think a few losing seasons and some humble pie for them will change that back to what it was in the past.

I think BB has proven that he's the most classless coach in the NFL. (although I could concede a Petrino argument, he's not in the NFL anymore)

I hate to disappoint everyone that thinks I should admire a guy like BB, but I save my admiration for people that I actually admire.

:goodposting: These are my feelings on this exactly. Most of the "greats" don't act as though the world should bow to them. They do their job and do it with class. This isn't the attitude of the whole Pats team. As the poster here mentioned, Brady, Bruschi and many others are and have always been classy. However, the team takes the attitude of its coach before all others and one thing I'll never call Belichick is classy. Now I know that I was stereotyping when I said that Pats fans are smug and arrogant, but there are a lot of them who are. I apologize to those who aren't(I'd like to think most of the ones in the shark pool aren't). However, just like you get classless Yankee fans, or classless Cowboy fans(thinking 90s here), you get Patriots fans who are classless. They make a bad name for all Patriot fans because you don't always remember the fans who truly can appreciate their team with class. You remember the fans that are complete tools and want to rub your nose in the fact that their team is "unbeatable". Granted you get this everywhere, but when a team has as much exposure as the pats do, you tend to see these fans more than you want to.Beyond this, I respect the Patriots for what they have done. If they don't fail in the playoffs, it would be assinine to not put them among the greatest teams ever assembled in the NFL. With their strength of schedule and with everyone "getting up" to play them, they would have probably the best argument for being the greatest ever.

How many Patriots fans have you met in SC?
You can find plenty of fans of each team in any state that doesn't have its own team. There are plenty of Panthers and Falcons fans here, but Pats and Steelers fans are probably the next plentiful.

Can I ask how a Patriots fan as irked you? Or are you talking about a couple of people on this board?
Honestly, it is mostly the people on this board, but those Pats fans that I know in person have a strange combination of irritating smugness and a bizarre persecution complex to go with it.

Is this a joke? Am I imagining the dozens of threads started bashing the Patriots and filled with posts about how the Patriots are the most "arrogant" fan base in the country?

What do you mean, Goon Squad? There are only 3 Patriots fans who post in the Shark Pool.
This thread in and of itself is one hell of an example.....just enjoy your team's success. Doin't rub others' face in it.
