Arian Foster Week 2 Status (1 Viewer)

Here's a conundrum:

Any owners thinking about starting both Tate & Foster? My other RBs are pretty lame, and this is kind of intriguing.

Not a WDIS question, just wondering if any other Foster owners are contemplating this move.

Personally, no. But there are grumblings from HOU beat writers that HOU may start rushing the ball 30-40 times a game (steady), which is an insane number... But it could mean 20-25 for foster and 10-15 for tate, which would mean PLENTY of value for tate still.

I would not be surprised. When Wade Phillips was hired in Houston awhile back, I posited the theory that this helps Foster and the running game.

If the defense can gel well under Phillips, field position will help walk the texans into the playoffs.Leaning more towards a run game may actually benefit the Texans in many ways.a) the best o-line in the NFLb) the leading rusher in the league who will see 20+ carries/gamec) a solid #2 in Tate that can produce well with a 10+ carries/game regimed) a well above average QBe) a good receiving core, with arguably the best WR in the business.Run heavy will not only help HOUeat up clock time, but also open the field for Andre, who can destroy iunder any conditions, but especially if the box will be stacked.Wouldn't shock me at all

According to ESPN's John Clayton, Ben Tate appears likely to start against the Dolphins in Week 2 despite Arian Foster's (hamstring) return to practice this week. We're wary of Clayton's injury updates because he often just guesses, so take this with a grain of salt. "It looks more apparent that Ben Tate is going to be the starting running back. And then they'd mix Foster in," Clayton said on SportsCenter. It's an obvious concern for Foster and Tate owners alike. Coach Gary Kubiak has been publicly adamant that Foster would get virtually all of the carries if he started the game.
WTF???????????????????

From Kubiak's mouth after yesterday's practice

Head Coach Gary Kubiak (on RB Arian Foster’s status) “Much better. This was our work day, but he looked good. As long as everything’s smooth tomorrow, it should be ready to go.”

(on how big of a deal it is to have RB Arian Foster back playing) “It’s huge. He puts us at our best. He’s a heck of a player. When he’s back there, everybody’s pretty darn comfortable from a standpoint of what he can do for our football team. Hopefully everything goes smooth and he’s feeling good tomorrow and we’re ready to go and back at full strength.”

And today ...

From the horse's mouth

Texans coach Gary Kubiak on Arian Foster: "He looks ready to play. He's had a good week. I think he'll be fine." Kubiak said he doesn't think Foster will play his usual 60 snaps. Ben Tate is next in line & is "definitely going to play"

Texans coach Gary Kubiak backed off his early-week comments by saying Friday that Arian Foster (hamstring) won't get a normal snap count in Week 2.Kubiak insisted that Ben Tate "is definitely going to play." Of Foster, Kubiak added, "He looks ready to play. He's had a good week. I think he'll be fine." The Texans now appear likely to use a committee backfield against the Dolphins, attempting to limit Foster's touches and snaps in an effort to avoid the possibility of a setback. We would still expect Foster to start the game, despite speculation otherwise from ESPN's John Clayton. You just have to consider Foster more of a risky RB2 than a locked-in RB1.

...this siuation is clear as mud. Sounds like Foster may still not be 100% if he's backing off his comments.

I have a feeling both Foster and Tate are going to end up in a lot of lineups and someone is going to be disappointed. I have no idea which guy will give the let down though.

Miami has a pretty good D. I'm starting Hightower and Felix over either, but Tate is the play. They are going to ease Foster back. As a Foster owner, I consider it good news, really.

actually, this a pretty great example of why athletes absolutely should hold out when there is a value discrepancy.

This quote may clear some things up...

"I think Foster may get a full load this week if indeed he wants to be back to full capacity given his hammy can handle more than a limited number of snaps at the position that he plays. Let's face it, we have good running backs on this football team and if one of them is playing good and feeling good then he'll be good to go assuming he feels like it on a not so limited basis. Given all that, we have to go win a football game this weekend and to do that we need running backs out there that can play, so if he can play he will play some number of snaps as to not risk further tweaking of his injury as long as he can handle it and feels good tomorrow, limited or not."

*the above quote is from me for entertainment purposes only

it sounds like foster lost his job actually
Do I remember correctly that last year, in preseason or before, Tate was actually ahead of Foster before Tate got hurt?
You do and now Houston is just going to go back to the better back. Who is now not hurt. Really simple if you ask me.
They also won't have to pay him big money next year. Tate is the man. Many people just won their fantasy leagues.

Yeah...really simple. The guy with 0 career starts and a fumble in his only game played is better than the guy who just led the NFL in rushing and accumulated over 2200 yards and 18 TDs. Simple.

Im seriously considering starting both. Its not like my other options are much better this week (Jacobs, Mathews, Ingram)

If Nicks isn't cleared for takeoff by Sunday around 3pm, gonna slip Tate into my FLEX & run them both. I don't like to hedge my bets but it feels like the play. Was seriously hoping Foster just took another week off.

Just heard another interview (or it might have been the same one replayed that earlier quotes came from) with Kubiak. He was talking about Foster and said something about a play count. Then he was asked a follow up about that play count comment and Kubiak said in essence it wouldn't be a pre-decided play count but he'd just judge how much work to give him based on how he was holding up in the game. Said he didn't think Foster would be his normal 60 snap / 90% of the snaps this week.

Also, Ward definitely out. Kevin Walter probably a gametime decision.

As expected, running back Arian Foster will start at Miami unless he suffers some kind of setback in Saturday's walkthrough.

Foster missed the opening victory over Indianapolis because of a strained hamstring. Ben Tate will be the backup against the Dolphins. Derrick Ward, who started against the Colts, won't play at Miami because of a sprained ankle.

"He looks ready to play," coach Gary Kubiak said about Foster. "He's had a good week. As long as there's no setbacks, he's ready to go.

"The key right now for me the next 48 hours is what type of play count I put on him. I have to be a little concerned as we go into the game. I'll watch him and see how he's holding up, but I would think that he's definitely not going to be a 60-play guy like he normally is for us."

Receiver Kevin Walter (bruised shoulder) sat out another practice, but Kubiak still didn't rule him out of the Miami game. Kubiak called Walter a "game-time decision."

Meanwhile, rookie cornerback Roc Carmichael, a fourth-round draft choice, was placed on injured reserve because of a shoulder injury he suffered early in camp. Defensive end Tim Bulman was re-signed to replace Carmichael on the roster.

I am torn on whether to start Foster this week. Forte and Jones are my RB2 and 3 with Reggie Bush RB 4 (8 team league). I also am torn if I should handcuff Tate. I have a free p/u due to saving my last round pick. I am not really worried about this injury but if Foster gets further injured or in a RBBC is Tate worth a roster spot in 8 team league. Good depth at all other positions barring injury.
I think Tate is a good pickup even if foster returns.

Seems barting a setback Foster will start and get the majority of the carries. Supposedly he was ready to play week 1 and they just held him out as a precaution. 10 carries (estimate) for Tate is what the usual backup would get. I probably would be weary of starting either but I absolutely would not start Tate.

Arian Foster - RB - Texans

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans are targeting 20 Week 2 touches for Arian Foster (questionable, hamstring), and 10 for Ben Tate off the bench.

McClain also believes Foster is a shoo-in to start against the Dolphins. "Gary Kubiak likes Foster to get at least 25 touches," McClain notes. "Cause he's been out, I bet it'll be somewhere around 20, depending on how game goes." According to McClain, Foster "could have started" in Week 1 against the Colts had it been a playoff game. Foster needs to be penciled into fantasy lineups for now, and monitored into Sunday morning.

Week 2 status? Overrated.
Yep it is. Unless of course you start out 0-2 because you picked Foster not understanding about the injury.Play Tate.

This is wrong. Everybody wanted to push arian out because tate got drafted in the second round while kubiak was saying all through preseason how comfortable they were with arian.
Agreed, Tate was at best 3rd last year at the time he got hurt. He missed all the OTAs with a hamstring and the coaching staff was referring to Tate with terms like that he was "way behind" where they wanted him to be.
