Not sure you can expect much from the beginning of the year. Great sleeper for the end of the year though. I'd expect low end WR2 or high end WR3 numbers from week 6 on.Thoughts/projections for Benn this season?
Why?25 Career Receptions395 Career YardsReturning (eventually) from a significant injuryWhat about any of that makes you think he'll be one of the 25 best WRs over the last 10 weeks of the season? He'd have to double his career stats in those 10 games.I'd expect low end WR2 or high end WR3 numbers from week 6 on.Thoughts/projections for Benn this season?
I absolutely think he can improve and I think he's got a bright career - I own him in a dynasty. That said, I think this is a lost year. He finally started to hit a bit of a stride by the end of the year, but then he got hurt. Instead of building chemistry with Freeman, he was rehabbing.I think he has many productive seasons ahead of him but if I'm picking for a redraft, I see a guy who's coming back from injury after a modest rookie season and is at best the #2 receiving option (and that's being generous). Realistically, I see him with a few 4 for 60 type games and maybe an monster game or two late in the season to roll up a nice little hype package for next year.Career stats? He was a rookie, you don't think 2nd year players can improve? I don't know how he'll perform this season but I love his talent.
this is the main issue. Is he healthy and is Briscoe gonna eat into his targets. Not to mention, how much will be left over after Williams and Winslow get their's?I liked him coming into camp but am now concerned about Briscoe.
What if Briscoe sets the woods on fire in 2011? You still think Benn unseats him in 2012? It just doesn't happen that way.1. Mike Williams had 64 receptions and 11 Touchdowns last year. Not many rookies do that so to expect Benn to have the same numbers on the other side is ridiculous. He wasn't even starting so it's not like he caught 25 balls starting 16 games. You also have KW II to factor in as well.2. Benn was hitting his stride at the end of the season last year and it looked like TB had 2 bright stars at WR moving forward. 3. Briscoe is definitely going to factor in for the 2011 season. He is a big target but he doesn't look very fast. Benn has a lot more speed but I'm thinking he is not 100% right now. I'm not optimistic about Benn in 2011 and think Briscoe mint see the field more. But in 2012 I would not be surprised if he flourished at that point once he is a good 18 months into the rehab. I like Benn long term a lot more than in redrafts in 2011.
To borrow from my friend EBF, talent always rises to the top. If Benn is as talented as many believe then he will come back strong and unseat Briscoe. I like Briscoe, just picked him up in Dynasty but if you watch him play he plays more like Mike Williams(Sea). He's a big guy and I don't know that his upside is anything close to the Mike Williams(TB) or Benn when he is 100%. Lots of WRs look like they have a bright future and then get tossed to the side for a better guy coming up behind them. I would be surprised if Briscoe racks up anything more than say about 50-60% of whatever Mike WIlliams racks up opposite him. The WR2 in Tampa is really option 3 behind Williams and KW imo. What if Briscoe sets the woods on fire in 2011? You still think Benn unseats him in 2012? It just doesn't happen that way.1. I watched Benn through his college career as an Illinois fan. One thing Benn is not short on is talent, everyone knows that. He reminded me of TO, once you got the ball in his hands he ran like a powerback with 4.5 speed, he'd shed tackles like snakeskin. The problem is, without exaggeration, at least every three touches he would be limping off the field with something. I'm not sure if he overreacted to dings or what, but he seemed as fragile as they came. I hope it was just a nagging college injury that made him seem that way and he comes back strong from his knee injury but I wouldn't be surprised if he's constantly battling injuries throughout his career, he just seems to have that propensity. You never know, maybe he manages to stay healthy like AP did after his injuries early in his career. I hope for the best, he is a stand-up guy.To borrow from my friend EBF, talent always rises to the top. If Benn is as talented as many believe then he will come back strong and unseat Briscoe. I think he was playing with a bad ankle in 2009, in 2008 he was pretty damn good. He also had quite possibly the worst quarterback I've ever seen play in the Big 10 throwing him the ball in Juice "Can't hit the broad side of a barn" Williams.I seem to remember Benn underperforming in college.I watched Benn through his college career as an Illinois fan. 1. Go watch the games he played in2. he only had 39 targets because he was learning the flanker position (toughest WR position to learn)3. 25 catches on 39 targets =64% of his catches4. 3 catches he was stopped on the 1 yard line (significant from a perceived value point of view)5. Plays for an up and coming team with a solid core around him. 6. Buc's have an easy schedule from the way it looks now7. all reports have said Benn made an unbelievable recovery and is only being held up in practice and preseason as a precaution(Playing in there next game)8. If they use him this year the way it looked like they were planning on using him last year, he will get the ball in multiple ways and will compete and eventually surpass big mike for targetsWhy?25 Career Receptions395 Career YardsReturning (eventually) from a significant injuryWhat about any of that makes you think he'll be one of the 25 best WRs over the last 10 weeks of the season? Well, he didn't. He was actually the second most feared player in his conference(Beanie Wells) .He had a miserable passing QB (Isiah Williams). He played hurt a lot his senior year . Illinois was a running team when he was there also. You guys might remember Rashard Mendenhall? If he doesnt get hurt again he will be the NO.1 WR in that offense by the end of the year....you can put it on the board, yesI seem to remember Benn underperforming in college.I watched Benn through his college career as an Illinois fan. If you drop him he will be snatched up immediately. Redraft, his value is limited. Dynasty, his value is still high IMO.Been wondering what to do with this guy in my dynasty. Seems to have no trade value right now based on the few I've tried. This leads me to believe there is a decent chance he stays on the FA list for a while. Tough choice with guys like Vereen, Ridley, Murray, Baldwin, and Jacquizz staring at me. Wasn't even aware that Briscoe was impressing this much. Keep the thoughts coming.
Mendenhall was only there for Benn's freshman year. There's no chance he will be the number one receiver in that offense by the end of the year unless Williams gets injured. Williams was one of those rare rookie receivers that "got it" right away. He's only going to get better. Benn needs at least a year before getting back to where he was. If you want to hope for anything for him, it's that he's effective and can contribute, being the number one is not in the cards this year.Well, he didn't. I disagree. His stats weren't all that great and didn't live up to the hype IMO. He had a good, but not great Sophomore year. Only 7 tds in 3 seasons? I know he was banged up his Jr year, but 38/490/2? Yes, he didn't live up to his reputation in college.ARRELIOUS BENN STATS Receiving Statistics No Yds Avg TD 2009 38 490 12.9 2 2008 67 1,055 15.7 3 2007 54 676 12.5 2 Career 159 2,221 14.0 7'wiscstlatlmia said:Well, he didn't. Randall Cobb had garbage throwing to him in college. His stat line - 1313 rushing yds, 22 tds, 1661 receiving yds and 13 tds. Not to mention his passing stats. Benn was much more hyped than Cobb and not only did he have a better college career, in my mind he will have a better pro career. Are you aware of who his QB was in college Hoss? Juice Williams was an awful QB in terms of passing, so not sure I would draw too much from his lack of receiving stats in college.
Cobb is 5'10" 190 and Benn is 6" 220. They're two completely different players that played for two different teams. What the hell does Randall Cobb have to do with this thread? Eagles acquired WR Arrelious Benn and a 2013 seventh-round pick from the Buccaneers in exchange for Philadelphia's 2013 sixth-round pick and a 2014 conditional pick.
Change of scenery maybe good. Highly touted coming out of college and then didn't do much in Tampa. Probably will be a SP teams guy for the most part but it's only maclin and djax at the top of the WR corps. He could pass guys like avant, cooper and demarius johnson easy if he applies himself.Rotoworld.com
