Arrested Development (1 Viewer)

Not sure I like the "release all at once" plan. It is funny to have people point out the small details you might miss as people go thru the series. It makes shows like GOT and other shows that used to be funny like The Office better imo
I agree. I wish they would have released one episode at a time so there would be more conversation on each episode.
I think with all the overlapping stories and the ability to watch them out of order works better for on demand viewing. The "previously on" section for each episode would take half the time slot.

I'm about half way through, and I'm shocked at how good they've been so far. I was expecting them to be decent, but they're way better than that. Some episodes I thought have been pretty mediocre, the George Sr. ones particularly, but some of the others have me laughing my ### off throughout.
I've guffawed out loud a few times in every episode.

Anybody know why they continue to *beep* out the swearing?

Through episode 3, not bad but I haven't had many out and out chuckles

The scene with George Sr. and Oscar sitting at the table in a restaurant was pretty awesome though.

 Even the mediocre episodes have a few very funny scenes.

I was assuming to keep the flow from the episodes that were on FOX?
I assume they think the bleep is funnier than the word itself, and I tend to agree. Especially with a few expletives strung together. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why I think it's so much funnier that way, but it is.

I enjoyed them but it really wasn't the sitcommy AR development from seasons 1-3. This season felt more clever and less funny if that's possible. I think this season will get much better on my 2nd run through so I will wait till it's over prior to giving it a grade. I do hope that if they do anything more in the future that they are able to get the cast together as that is the best dynamic for the show though this is definitely better than nothing.

It had the air of the second half of season 3, which seemed to break the 4th wall indirectly a lot more than the rest. Tongue in cheek about the shows struggles and fate and the characters getting wackier, especially Michael, to an almost caricature of themselves. It's markedly different than most of the series. But in the other way that it's different is the utterly remarkable way they've intertwined everyone's story while making them ridiculously funny in and of themselves. It's a major writing/directing coup, imo, that's only possible because of the new format of straight to streaming (which includes the no-commercials episode length of over 30 actual minutes of screen time per episode rather than the standard broadcast 22 minutes).

I'm not sure what some of you expected. I am through #8 (Lindsay) and this stuff is genius. Maybe not "laugh out loud" guffaws each minute but the story is top notch.

Tobias Funke (MD, S.O.)

Lucille, GOB #2, and Tobias #1 were my favorite episodes upon first view.

George Michael's character took the biggest turn from season 3 and not in a good way.

Without giving anything away, the story line with buster was a huge swing and a miss.

I think they really missed on not bringing back one huge recurring joke... but I'll wait to point that out.

Overall I'm very pleased with what they did, I had huge expectations, and while it wasn't a home run all the time, there were a few parts that were classic.

I thought the Buster episode was great. It might've been my favorite.
Watched it last night, Hale was a tornado of comic genius. It's all over but the finale for me. And then a re-watch of course.
His delivery of the motherboy ball lines just slayed me. I think I watched it 5 times.
Show some respect, he's a motherman now.

That one, more than any other, needs a complete re-watch. I felt there was so much I missed while laughing and the most double entendres.

Buster's always been my favorite character, looking forward to his episode. I'm 6eps in, hopefully it comes up soon.

Finished all 15. I would give it a B-.

Missed having the family all together and the writing was not as good. It had its moments, but overall I was disappointed.

Maebe's episode was great. She aged nicely.

Definitely need to rewatch but this has been the freshest thing I have seen in awhile.

Season 5????

Watched it for the 2nd time, definitely better. I would bump this season up to an A- especially after the first three episodes. Also, the Buster line about Motherboy balls or whatnot, Cera couldn't keep his laugh in at that point and broke character.

My friend worked on it when they were on stage, which was basically the giant apartment (and L2's apt). She said that Hale was the biggest crack up. For what that's worth. It's awesome when you can crack up the people you work with, even when they know it's coming.

I can't bring myself to watch the last one...

Game of Thrones spoiler:

Seriously, it's a huge book spoiler:

And I'm probably not going to be in the mood for it after a Kings game, followed by the dreaded Red Wedding. Should be utter horror and shock from the new fans after tonight in the biggest HOLY #### moment since poor Ned got dead.

So is one running gag that Maybe does a drop in the background in every episode? Even if she doesn't have a line, or is featured on a TV screen in some shots?

I think in Job's #1 she does a random walk by while in one of the clubs too, need to watch for more of these.

Just finished the 10th episode and I'm kicking myself for doubting it after the 1st three. Its really coming together nicely and I could easily watch the final 5 now but I'm going to drag it out as long as possible.I'm wondering if this will be nominated for an Emmy. Based on the writing and editing and how they work around al of the actors' previous commitments I think it should win Best Comedy Series hands down.

"Daddy has to get his rocks off" - is my favorite line so far.

:goodposting:Loved how the story lines came together after the first couple of episodes. I'm almost done with my first run through of the season and will definitely have to give it another watch afterwards

This show is great, but I'm not seeing a ton of buzz around it. I blame the launch vehicle here for this. Not really a chance to build up any steam, but if they let out the first 3 episodes a week at a time they would have lost most the casual audience imo.

I'm still happy they did it, but I don't think anyone is calling it a success anywhere. I wonder if there's enough draw for a movie. I assume they will still manage to put one together.

Best line for me was probably

"Dad, if they don't get their money soon, then they're gonna be really mad and they're gonna have major mongolian beef with us…"

I'm 6 or 7 episodes in. For the first 2 or so, I didn't think it was that great. Now I see how its coming together - I think its really good and really coming together.

My favorite line so far:

"Now I've broken my skull in a fourth place ... the patio."

I just finished watching all 15 episodes (being out of the country for a week forestalled any binge watching).

Grade: A+

Seriously, the degree of difficulty in bringing back a series after such a long time off the air + dealing with actor scheduling + some of the highs they hit in these episodes merits nothing less than an A+. And that's after just one viewing. (I'm totally willing to forgive any misses. Remember: love each other)

A lot of reviews mention how AD influenced sitcoms that came after. What I haven't seen is the obvious influence of Rashomon on S4 ("Surely" someone's mentioned it, but if they have, I haven't seen it yet).

My favorite that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the pool party at GM's new SV home. The first time through you're not yet aware of the location of the house or the fact that those attending have a special reason for living where they do. The second time through (Tom! Who knew?) some of the jokes get even better (Tickle monster). The difference in the seen when Rebel's boy jumps in the pool and then comes back to the surface had me in tears.

I stayed out of the thread until I saw them all for fear of spoilers. I loved the originals but thought the last half season was a downward trend. This new season continued that for me.

Michael should be the straight man and the family plays better off of each other. Tobias' episodes were the best. I'd give it a C+.

The wit factor remains high. The new format takes a while and may be worth a review. Good news is Netflix now talking about wanting more.

Out of the 4 seasons, I think this new one might honestly be my favorite. Really loved the new format and character changes.

The final scene was PERFECT. I loved where they left off. Hopefully we get a movie or another season, but if we never get another minute of AD anything, that was a great way to end the series.

I'm shocked that every one has enjoyed season 4 as much as they have. I thought the plot lines were too outlandish and the show lost the chemistry of having the whole crew working together. Michael became a nut job, GOB is gay, Lindsey can't move her face, the minor characters can't carry a show themselves. I still give it a B- but it's not the same as season 1-2, and really it couldn't be. The actors are 9 years older and most importantly the writing crew has changed. Most of the guest celebrities were really unnecessary. The George and Lucille flashbacks were stupid, Ron Howard should have stuck to narrating. Pretty disappointing.

I agree with most of the negatives. But I appreciate the degree of difficulty, given all the circumstances, and thought it was a nice product they put out in spite of the challenges. It wasn't quite the old AD, but it was funny and it was just great to get 15 more episodes in AD World.

1st of all, the outlandishness is always part and partial. No there has been not real change for Michael... you clearly did not get the GOB-Tony-Gay bits then if you think the humor is just about "gay."

Got through 7 episodes and we have stopped. The show is a shell of its formal self. The writing is terrible and obvious and we are hard core AD fans. I would put the first 3 seasons in my top 3 shows ever list. I can't tolerate this season...its a travesty.

the format difference does take getting used to, but it interesting none the less. And funny.

Through my group of friends, most of whom are lovers of AD, I haven't found a singler person that enjoys it. Some watched all of it because there were indeed funny moments but most agree that its half the show it used to be.

But to each his own indeed :)
