Arrested Development (1 Viewer)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Will the pay-TV environs of Showtime be a friendlier place for the Emmy-winning comedy "Arrested Development," which just got canceled by Fox?

Word around town this week is that Showtime is in talks to pick up the comedy about a chaotic family. Sources stressed that the talks are still exploratory and that it would be a big financial commitment on Showtime's part to pick up the show in its current form with a large ensemble cast that includes Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, Jessica Walter and Will Arnett.

"Arrested" was an instant hit with critics following its debut on Fox in late 2003, but the show never pulled in much of a crowd, even after it won the Emmy for best comedy series in 2004. Last month, Fox threw in the towel, cutting its episode order for "Arrested's" third season from its initial 22-episode ticket to 13.

Representatives for Showtime, and the series' producers 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV declined comment late Tuesday.

I think HBO would be a better venue...deeper pockets. Plus, with the decline of some of their staple shows, they need some solid replacements.
That would be awesome if it went to HBO.I probably would pay for Showtime though if it went there. All I watch HBO for is Curb and Sopranos (although Extras is pretty good too). Maybe they would put Arrested when those other shows are in repeats so I could just subscribe/unsubscribe for the new shows.

That would work for me.

Anything to keep this great show in production.

HBO refuses to buy programs that have been on other networks.Too bad for them, because HBO is on the decline right now and their "warhorses" (Curb & Sopranos) have already jumped the shark. If Showtime gets "Arrested Development", they could overtake HBO by 2007.I hope. :)

From everything I've read it seems Showtime would be the more likely candidate. I'll definately support the best show on television if it is picked up by another premium channel. I think if the show was marketed better it would have better ratings, but in all fairness to Fox, making commercial segments of the show that would appeal to the masses would be difficult. I've already supported the show by buying my closest friends seasons 1 & 2. The dvd sales are pretty good considering the ratings are so poor.

Showtime has other good shows, too. Unfortunately, they cancelled "Dead Like Me" and "The Chris Isaak Show." But they still have "Sleeper Cell," "Weeds" and "Huff."

bumpI recently heard from a guy that had lunch with Mitch Hurwitz that Arrested Development will be bought by Showtime!

Finally got caught up on the last few new episodes...I continue to be amazed at how consistently great this show continues to be, both writing and acting. How many new episodes are left on Fox?

Not sure if it's the last episode.

This review makes it sound like a good one, and possibly the last.

I hope not. Any confirmation on Showtime yet?

8:00 p.m. (Fox) "Arrested Development." Only the first of tonight's two shows is new, but it's definitely worth seeing. It's the one in which the writers of "Arrested" decide to protest their cancellation by going out swinging - and making even more direct jabs at Fox than they did when their episode order was shortened last season.

what happened with the live part??

FOX or the DETROIT affiliate cut away..
Didnt watch the show but when I was flipping I caught this part. All I heard was "were still live on the West Coast." I dont know if it was a fake live act or if they were actaully live... because I was not watching. Did not want to watch because I have not caught the last couple so I would be lost in this episode.

Yeah, it was the last line during "on the next episode".Don't know if it was really live, but it was one of the many great uses of all the cliche "must-watch" promos during the episode.

Tonight's episode was great.Excellent references to HBO and Showtime. This show is consistently side-splitting-ly great!

Loved the parody of all the jump sharking techniques used by other shows (3-D, special guest stars, live) and Ron Howard begging for viewers each commercial break was classic.

"ok we'll just tell you now, she's the one that dies." Damn this show is just too good.

:wall: I can't believe with all of the Holiday stuff I forgot a new episode was on. I hope it comes out on dvd before next fall. :hot:

If last nights episode was the 9th one of the season... I just got it through bittorrents. Have not watched it yet but I gots it.isohunt

Just watched the 7th episode.  The George Michael and Maebe thing is hilarious. The turtle that ate the Mary J and died. Then his arm broke off. :lmao: This show is to much.

Just got done with episode 8."That looks like Alf" (in the background) "Is that the creature who ate my cat?" :lmao: :lmao: Using Buster at an Arab toy shop with a sign saying "I Stole" with his fake hand. :lmao: :lmao:

Episode 9... freaking GOLD!The best part of the four I just watched was the play the warden wrote. The kids acting it out was the funniest thing I have seen on tv... um, my computer.

Anyone catch what it says on Franklin's shirt? I think its:

"George Bush

[something] [something] [something]

Black Puppets"
Kanye West reference.George Bush

doesn't care about

Black Puppets.

I've only watched the first 2 episodes so far. I've never seen a comedy that has so much to absorb. One of the best comedies ever written.

William Hung

and the Hung Jury.

:lmao:

Some other network PLEASE pick this show up!

Bravo!! If this is the end, absolutely one of the best wrap up to a series I've ever seen.

Could there be a movie? I hope.

Another  ... it was so brilliant that I almost feel like it's better if they don't get picked up by another network.

I wonder how many jokes I missed that I'll pick up in repeat viewings ....

I have to admit that I missed fake/real Saddam saying "No Scar! Dot Com!" (echoing IMOSCAR.COM from the beginning of the season). I loved how GOB really lived on the C-Word (and how it wasn't actually named The Seaward). And I loved the dreamy look between Tobias and Lindsay when it turns out they're both ogling the Hot Seamen.

When Gob's song (black/white) was playing at the nurses station when they were pouring massive amounts of tetracycline into the dosage cups was sow low key you might have missed it. Absolutely fantastic.

God I'm going to miss this show. I probably won't watch any tv (outside of sports) until Deadwood and/or the Sopranos comes back on. I've dropped the ball on Lost (I have about 7 downloaded episodes to catch up on).

:sadbanana: stand

Now that was brilliant.

If there's ever been a funnier sitcom, I've never seen it.
APPLAUSEI hate that this show is gone.

I'm going to own them all. You never catch everything the first time.
