Asiata vs. McKinnon (1 Viewer)

It's funny when people wait 4 weeks to pat themselves on the back.

Touches are about even, with Asiata getting the 3rd down and goal line work as it should have been all along. McKinnon is still the more talented runner with better long term prospects, but Asiata is effective if they play to his strengths.

I think it's pretty clear who the starter is. Asiata is the "change of pace" or "passing situation" guy. Asiata will often also be the Goal Line guy (he was in on first down when the Vikes were down near the 5 yard line toward the end of the game), but I wouldn't bank on it.
Got the bolded right, but you're a happy owner today if you did have to start Asiata today.

You'd think McKinnon could stumble across being given a goal line carry at some point along the way. Very frustrating situation

Put in $1 bids for the Ravens defense and Asiata. Someone else bid $2 for the Ravens so I got Asiata. Had to start him when Sims was declared inactive. Still gonna lose because the rest of my team sucks. So unfair.

Yet another RBBC. I had to start Asiata in FFPC due to injuries and byes. My opponent had McKinnon. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

In week 11, Asiata will probably have zero TDs while McKinnon shines.

Unless AP gets back somehow then they are both worthless.
Asiata has 7 total TDs, which is tied with guys like DeMarco Murray and Jamaal Charles. He's only worthless in the games he didn't score a TD.

In the three games he did score in, he might have won you the week.

McKinnon is the more difficult call. He hasn't scored any TDs, so depending on your scoring system, his value has been much more questionable and is based on potential rather than actual production.

We don't have a large number of games from which to draw any definitive conclusions, but so far the Vikings have not been scoring any long TDs. They only have 1 "long" TD scored, which was the C.Patterson 67 yd run in week 1. This is not an explosive offense. They are getting blown out by the good teams and grinding out some good numbers against bad teams. So far this has favored Asiata.

I think both of these guys are only playable in the remaining 4 home games for the Vikings. Asiata in particular looks like a potential play in weeks 13 and 14.

McKinnon limited yesterday again. Curious to get a little more info.

Should he be limited during the game, Asiata might become a little more attractive as his floor would rise significantly.

Anyone seeing anything on the wire about the severity of McKinnon's back? Back...always scares me.

I'm no coach, but if the assumption (or plan at least) is to get ADP back by next weekend, Asiata is the one of the two (between he and McKinnon) who likely takes the biggest hit. Therefore, I would run Asiata into the ground this weekend, let McKinnon rest, and then come back in week 12 with ADP and McKinnon. Stuff never works like that, but the logic seems there.

If Peterson returns, Asiata and McKinnon will both be worthless.

This makes sense, so it's likely the Vikings won't do this.

Coach Mike Zimmer said Friday that McKinnon (lower back) is "fine," the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Matt Vensel reports. McKinnon is expected to play Sunday against the Bears and is listed as probable on the official injury report.
Spin:
McKinnon will likely lead the way for the Vikings' backs again Sunday, although touchdown vulture Matt Asiata will presumably swoop in whenever Minnesota gets close to the end zone. The rookie should find plenty of open running lanes against a staggeringly bad Chicago defense.

If AP comes back then mckinnon will benched and maybe even inactive on gamedays, asiata will keep his job as the 3rd down passing back (gerharts role) but will lose the goalline job, however its mckinnon who has everything to lose since he is only playing early downs between the 20s which will go to AP.

I have absolutely no idea how this is going to play out with AP back in the picture. All I know is that McKinnon could possibly be seeing his last shot at legitimate volume for the rest of the year come Sunday and I hope he plays like it.

I highly doubt that. ADP is now the tarnished face of the franchise with a large price tag next year. They very well may cut ties with him. If that happens, they need to make sure that McKinnon can keep the next face of the franchise upright.

ETA, I don't think Peterson comes out much on third downs. There will be no third down back. Someone will spell him for a series or two to get a breather, but ADP didn't turn into a 2 down back after missing 10 weeks of football.

Asiata vs Mckinnon vs Tate

Vikings claimed RB Ben Tate off waivers from the Browns.
On the surface, it makes sense. The Vikings were hoping to get Adrian Peterson back in the fold this week, but the NFL instead chose to suspend him for the remainder of the season. Minnesota also doesn't seem ready to hand the reins over to Jerick McKinnon, while Matt Asiata has seen his snaps cut since McKinnon came onto the scene. Asiata is also averaging a pitiful 2.08 YPC over the past five games. Look for Tate to take over as the short-yardage back, in addition to splitting reps between the 20s with McKinnon. It may take some time for Tate to learn OC Norv Turner's offense, so we're not rushing to the waiver wire to add Tate, who looked really bad for the Browns. He's merely an RB3 until proven otherwise.

And then there were three. :censored: . I think Asiata get's hurt the most. His chances for another 3 TD game are slightly lower now. he only has 3 of those in less than a season's work. LMAO.

"Jerick McKinnon (back) did not practice Wednesday.

The Vikings are likely getting him some extended rest. McKinnon should be fine for Sunday's game against the Packers. Nov 19 - 4:27 PM" from Rotoworld

Well let's see, if McKinnon isn't as healthy as everyone thinks, and Asiata is in concussion protocol, it might be possible that a healthy (although disgruntled) RB like Tate with a chip on his shoulder, just might be a good play this weekend.

But it took Trent almost two season to learn the playbook in Indy ... wait I am not sure if he has learned it yet. Can Tate just step in and go on 4 days of practice? Anybody have a guy that has changed teams and took over 4 days after showing up? RB would be the position to do it I guess.

It would probable depend on how closely related the playbooks are to each other. Obviously certain terminology will change but if the over all looks are the same the move would be easier.

I'm assuming the running scheme will also have something to do with it. I'm pretty sure CLE runs the ZBS like HOU. I'm also pretty sure MIN mixes schemes.

The Vikings claimed running back Ben Tate off waivers on Wednesday, but offensive coordinator Norv Turner said Thursday that his arrival was not going to result in a change at the top spot of their depth chart.

...

“We’re excited about Jerick and what he’s done and I see him as our running back,” Turner said, via the Pioneer Press.

ETA: Have a lot riding on jMick this weekend and need all the perceived positive posturing I can find.

Bears watching closely. If Asiata can't play (seems likely) and Tate is just a warm body until he learns the playbook, McKinnon is (for this week) the rare talented 3-down back with goal-line looks and ergo a borderline RB1. Or, if everyone plays, he's just a crapshoot flex, if that.

So is everyone rolling McKinnon out this weekend...tate scares me a little bit and I have pulled him in favour of lamar miller or OBJ...

it takes one tate carry for 10yds for the coach to go hmmmm...maybe we should see what we have here

Now that Asiata is ruled out, I'm liking McKinnon against a weak GB run defense.

A lot unpredictability in these games but I would think that the Vikings will fall behind early and will be forced to abandon the run. The Packers are 8.5 point favorites.

With Asiata out and Tate not knowing anything about the offense, McKinnon should be a three down guy tomorrow no matter how the game goes.

I'm in this boat too. I'm deciding between McKinnon, OBJ, and Mason. Its standard league and I'm leaning McKinnon.

Might bode well for screen passes. I think McKinnon would/should be at his best in space on screens, but the way the Vikes have been setting up and blocking screens it sure hasn't shown, yet...

Yup, I love McKinnon this week too. The fact that the Packers will be up early does not worry me... Teddy loves to checkdown to his RB, and this week, that's McKinnon. Goal line carries might be McKinnon's too. He's a great RB2 this week in my opinion.
